So what was said at the latest DC about disfellowshipped people and how to treat them? I've been DF'd for 35+ years and of course it's been very difficult. My mother is a diehard JW and is 83 years old, still pioneering etc. I called her yesterday since I had been out of town and wanted to check in with her and she was very distant and almost secretive about her whereabouts all weekend since she had been at the DC. What's the latest party line on how to treat DF'd people? Harsher than ever? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Flashback to the sixties Seatle
by Tater-T inso while making a you tube video of my dad today, i came across this in a dvd of home movies from way back, i didn't even know about it... originally shot on super 8 film, shot off screen with camcorder in 1992, with open mic, transfered to dvd in 2010 .. made to you tube in 2013.... check out the food service, without paper plates no less .. it's only a couple minutes on convention then, a little seatle conventions were a family vacation when we were growing up ... .

Yes I remember the convention at Sick's Seattle Stadium. then it was Vancouver BC for a couple conventions (yes flush BM;s only!) and then finally Puyallup fairgrounds. What wasted weeks!

Jehovahs Witnesses and the Curse of Music.
by donny injehovahs witnesses and the curse of music.. .
i was inspired to write this after listening to a recent podcast of the thinking atheist by seth andrews.
as many of you know, seth was a devout christian who not only loved contemporary christian music but was one of the hosts of a popular morning show on kxoj in tulsa, oklahoma in the 1990s.

Well once again with the JW's it depends on who you are if you get in trouble for listening to the "wrong" kind of music. Here in Seattle I currently see the 30 something witnesses going to rock concerts of all sorts all the time. Of course this group is one of the "cool groups" so either they just fly under the radar or the elders just seem to ignore their attendance to all these events! I don't get it! They always seem to have time for these type of events but I don't think going out in service is ever a priority! HA!
Before I made my escape at 19 (I'm 56 now) all the music I listened to was scrutinized by my very devout male cousin (uber witness now) but he could get away with listening to Jefferson Airplane, Beatles, Led Zep, and various others. My mother would complain about what a waste of money it was to buy that "trash music" when I deviated from what my cousin approved of! I was able to fool her with the Eagles Albums that I bought saying it was "country rock" instead of rock and roll and somehow that was better! (Of course she never listened to them, just made assumptions!)
I was so glad to be able to choose my own music once I left without the third degree on what I wasted my money on this week! Stupid! Oh classical music was okay of course!!

Reports from JW's regarding the summer convention
by Lynnie inso, we're in the final countdown with the convention just over a month away.
i've talked to a few folks that have already attended it on the east coast and west coast and keep hearing that its the most up-building program they've ever been to.
seems the message is clear that we need to stop being so hard on ourselves and take time to appreciate the efforts we have put in and know that we are deeply loved.

Seems the message is clear that we need to stop being so hard on ourselves and take time to appreciate the efforts we have put in and KNOW that we are deeply loved. And, we are all here for each other, which, in any other organization would sound utopian or cliche, but in this one, is perfect truth. Never could have dreamed I would be this excited to sit still for 3 days; but, if the rumors are true, this is gonna be goooooood!
Unbelievable! such good brain washing they are doing!

Due to Ongoing Concern about Dwindling Meeting Attendances, IS THE BOOK STUDY ARRANGEMENT GOING TO BE RE-INSTATED NEXT YEAR?
by steve2 ini have some family and friends still in the organization.
i don't actively seek updates - my lovely contacts provide me with them unsolicited.
so far the updates have been reliable and confirmed sooner or later by subsequent developments.

I had always thought that the reason they discontinued the book studies is because smaller groups of people starting discussing the inconsistancies of the WTBTS which led to people leaving the Kingdom Hall. Too much independent thinking going on in the early '90's that I recall and several people in the Lynnwood, WA congregation were doing too much research and were all in the same book study. They don't care about gas or expenses but they do care about independent thinking! So they want people to come to the KH to make sure everyone is getting the same info.

I have a cousin that never went for the JW thing even though her mom and dad and 2 others sisters were in. She ran away from home at
14 or something too but eventually came back but was still not interested in the whole JW thing. Now she's 33 and is studying!!!! WTF? I think for her it's all about family and associating with them and of course she's getting love bombed to death and lots of attention etc. However I dont' see her going out in service or getting baptised anytime soon so it will be interesting if they pressure her to do that. I was shocked that she would go back after all her "wordly evperiences" but I also think she's a little mentally fragile so this is a way to insulate herself or something.

My mother wondering if I was going and I said "NO". She said "your loss". Really? I said to her WTF would I go to some place where the people hate me (I'm DF'd) and won't speak to me? Oh they don't hate you she says. Really again? What is wrong with these people?

Could the JWs sway you back...?
by new22day inop based on mr. freeze's topic - could attending the meetings/studying again sway any of you back to the org.
hearing the propaganda over and over again is pretty powerful i'm sure.
(i'm a non-jw, non-christian (no offense), stubborn as a bull and even i had moments of pause based on some of the doctrine (lasted 30 seconds) but i never had family/friends at stake or a background in this.

The moment they start letting women wear pants to the meetings! HA! Now we know that will never happen so I'm pretty safe! HA!

My mom started studying when I was 8-9, baptised at 15, ran away from home at 19; DF'd at 22(I think, I wasn't around for the announcement). Been shunned ever since by my self righteous mother and uber elder cousin and his family. Such a warm fuzzy feeling (not!)
