How about LOVE? They certainly have redefined that word!

What words has the WT redefined?
by Splash inthese days, virtually every public talk speaker thinks it's interesting and intellectual to include a dictionary definition of some word.
often the word is in common use and needs no explanation, such as 'exercise', or 'knowledge', or whatever.. now contrast that to all of the words that the wt has it's own meaning for, and referencing a dictionary for the common understanding of it would be viewed unfavourably.. words like 'generation' or 'men' (as in jesus is mediator between god and 'men' - 1tim 2:5-6).. what words have the wt redefined that you know about?
- i'd like to compile a list if possible.. splash.

Disfellowshipping - The 10 year rule?
by Gembean inis it true there is a 10 year rule?
i was reading on here when i saw someone quote it?
i've never heard of it before!.

Yes I'm sure it does happen and it depends on who you are and who your family is.
My cousin left home at 15 lived with several different men and then when she turned 30
and her grandma died (uber JW) she decided to "study" again. Her dad is an uber elder
and she is getting showered with "love bombs". How long do people get to study before they are
told they need to "progress"? She been studying for over 2 years now and enjoying
all the social aspects the JW's have to offer. Still has lots of worldly friends too that she is
always going to music venues with.

Idiotic WT reasoning for birthdays
by Batman89 inadditionally, birthday celebrations tend to give excessive importance to an individual, no doubt one reason why early christians shunned them.
(ecclesiastes 7:1) so you will find that jehovahs witnesses do not share in birthday festivities (the parties, singing, gift giving, and so forth).
school and jehovah's witnesses p.18.

Yeah what about baby showers and wedding showers too? Isn't that bringing undo attention to just one person? My
uber witness cousin had about 10 wedding showers when she got married and she was going to Bethel to be with her
husband so it's not like they needed anything since everything is provided for them. Very materialistic for sure. Oh and
I've seen some quite elaborate wedding anniversaries too which are bringing undo attention to 2 people and is basically a
birthday of the wedding so WTF???? -

International conventions - Seattle
by Lynnie injust found out from my jw mom that the congregations located in the suburbs north of seattle.
will be renting buses to shuttle people back and forth to the international convention at husky.
stadium.

Well I'm sure the local JW's will be visiting their favorite bars after the convention each
day. There's quite a group in the immediate area that are the "cool kids" JW's who are
always going out for drinks after the weekly meeting. Heavy drinkers up here, I see
pics of them posted all the time and everyone usually has a drink in hand! But since the
in the elite group I'm sure they never get in trouble for too much imbibing.

Yes you are probably correct ADCMS, put the JW's in harm's way and see what happens! Love the comment
about their wallets being "mugged" by the society, so true. Can't wait to see how this whole convention thing goes
at Husky Stadium, hope it rains like it often does around here on the 4th of July! After the convention the JW's
can go hang out and watch the worldly fireworks on Lake Union which is right by the stadium. HA!

Thanks for the great info ADCMS. Love how the JW's always have to lie a little to make it sound like
they have overcome insurmountable obstacles to get what they want. How much are they charging
per person to be bussed to the stadium I wonder? doesn't seem like a huge amount of people expected
either but I was used to attending the big conventions in Vancouver BC back in the '70's. Hope the JW enjoy
the U District with all the homeless kids and gang bangers! It's a high crime area, students are always getting
mugged for their Iphones or Ipads or whatever.

Yes I agree that Husky Stadium is difficult to get to. The UW does have a huge parking lot however and
was also wondering how much they were charging for parking for the poor R&F. Maybe parking wasn't included
to save money, HAHAHA~!The U District is somewhat sketchy too when it comes to crime so that should be interesting as well.

Just found out from my JW mom that the congregations located in the suburbs north of Seattle
will be renting buses to shuttle people back and forth to the International convention at Husky
Stadium. And of course they will have to pay extra for this lovely privilege. There is already an excellent
municipal bus system in place but of course they felt the need to get their own private buses.
Just found it interesting and another way to fleece the flock.

Head coverings for women
by Comatose inmy mom used to throw a paper napkin on her head when forcing us to study after i was baptised.
i've seen scarves, and shawls, and a very few hats.. isn't using a napkin on your head just the same as not bothering?
what a dumb rule too.
-

I always wondered why they didn't require the sisters to do something like the Amish or Mennonites and wear some head
covering ALL THE TIME! Some how that made more sense to me than the old napkin routine!!
