I've been shunned from my sister's wedding

the following is the contents of a hand-written letter i just received from my (21 year old) sister, who is getting married may 18. for some reason, i thought that she would let love and compassion be stronger than wt programming.

I just read your post and thought, this could be my nephew. His brother is getting married in April and invited him and his wife only to the ceremony. They had already bought a present and everything, but will be returning it. I told him they should crash the reception anyway - what are they going to do force him to leave? Actually, they'd probably get 4 big elders to drag him out kicking and screaming. What's funny is they did invite me - go figure they must have known I wouldn't go anyway.

Leadership is missing among the xJWs!

i know the word, "organization" has a bad taste.

but it is a fact of life that to get anything done on a grand scale in this world, good leadership and organization are a must.. we lack organization, much of what is said and done is a hit and miss thing except for the u.n. problem.

thanks to those who took a lead and the others who followed their lead some damn good work got done!

It's true that we all have the "salesmen" skills, but the biggest difference in being out of the WT is that when we use our skills now, we're paid for it. If this was a money making venture, I'm sure some would be willing and able to "get the word out". What we don't want to do is be used for our skills and get nothing in return.

Oh sure, we'll have satisfaction from turning right-hearted ones out of the evil organization... Sound familiar?

i just faded out - it was easy since i moved to california from ohio.

Why love God?

should we love god and have faith in him because we are afraid of being annihilated if we don't?.

should we love god so we can be paid for it by getting a "mansion in the sky" or everlasting life or some other reward payment?

I don't know if I could really Love God. I believe there is a God, and I'm thankful he created me and this earth, but I don't think that automatically translates into love. I feel I have a relationship with him, but it's more of a platonic thing - I don't mean that as a joke either!!

I've often thought that if God exists and is the all-powerful creator, why should he give a rats a** if Satan challenges his authority? Why not just zap him, make an announcement to the rest of us - hey be good or else, and let us get on with the good life? Why hold back? To prove a point? Why? We know he's the top guy, why rub it in? Okay, now I'm just being naughty....

But seriously, I've always found it hard to really say I love God. It's more of acceptance of the way things are. But I want my reward too!

as i said before, i was raised in the truth in central ohio.

regular pioneered starting in senior year of high school (should have studied more instead...)for about 3 years, then decided to quit because i had a falling out with my best friend at the time and she and half her family were pioneering.

Anyhoo - they wouldn't give up their belief in God and Christ - I can see them attaching to another religion right away (the dependancy thing).

since everyone gave me a warm welcome i'll go ahead and tell you my whole story.

as i said before, i was raised in the truth in central ohio.

The minute I mention anything about their beliefs, the red flags start to go up and the word "apostate" comes to their minds. This would just close the book on any discussions. They've never had the real kind of doubts about the organization to think they should look elsewhere for answers. My brother was DA'd when he was about 17 - my Mom still speaks to him, but that's about it. I can't blame them though. It's so much easier to deal with life issues if you think someday it'll all be fixed and we'll all live in this perfect world. Since I'm still on speaking terms with the family, I'll probably wait to hear some doubts first. Which is funny because they all know I celebrate all the holidays, and yet they just look away regarding that.

Also, my sisters have kids that are all gung-ho jw's and if my parents were out, they couldn't take the shunning - it would kill them. So I think, do I destroy the only thing they've ever believed in and risk them not having any contact with family - is it worth it? At this point I don't think so. They've had the same beliefs for 40 years, finding out it was all for nothing would devastate them.

I have read COC and ISOCF - both helped reaffirm what I researched on the net. At this point in my life I haven't decided exactly what I believe - but that's okay for now. I consider myself a Christian, but have read with interest some of the postings here regarding the authenticity/inspiration of the Bible.

easter, what's the real truth: previously, and as found in most encyclopedias, most scholars took the view of "the venerable bede" who in 8th century england speculated that the name easter may have come from the name for the anglo-saxon goddess eastre.

but closer research shows several other possibilities.

one is that the name more likely came from the latin for "white week" that spring week when people wore white to be baptized as christians.
