my name is chris and i just joined your excellent forum today.
it's 2 am and i can't sleep, then (by divine light, perhaps?
) discovered your forum.
You who don't get it probably don't want to. --You know how you can type :) and it looks like a smiley - on its side? well, this poster has also created a picture and the others are commenting on the picture. And whoever picked on the MO reference was pretty smart!!
Welcome (oyo). You will fit right in here!
i am curious about the history of disfellowshipping and disassociation doctrines.
i know that they changed the da rules when ray and co were leaving so that no one could talk to people who disassociated themselves -- to close the loophole.
i am wondering if that's also when the df rules also became more harshly and strictly enforced.

I am wondering if that's also when the DF rules also became more harshly and strictly enforced. Before Ray, was "apostasy" really ever an issue? Before Ray were they afraid of their dirtly little secrets becoming public. Is that the real reason for the harsh enforcement of the DF/DA policy? I also wonder the percentage of persons disfellowshipped in general prior to 1980 versus since 1980.
i dont know if this has been discussed in forum before... but i have heard that in some places, the society still asks for money for their "life-saving products.
" two countries in particular have been pointed as being pay-per-mag operated.
australia and (of all places) africa.
You're right - I also understand that their "donation" system is not worldwide -- but I don't know what other countries still charge for books and magazines. I would bet my right arm that in whatever country they are able to do so without paying taxes - they do it.
i've been a bit lax in posting, life got really busy over the last while.
i've had my own business that's been gaining contracts, but not quickly enough for mortgage payments and cat food.
hehe so i took a 5 month temp job to supplement.
Happy Birthday and Congrats on the ring!!!!!!
YIPEE for YOU!!!!!
i dont recall hearing the term as a jw.. and i've never been anything else.. but since i started reading online some i've seen that term mentioned in context of the great tribulation.
is it bible based?
is it called something else in the nwt?.

I've been a few times and I really like it. I don't go regularly because I reallly don't like getting up Sunday morning. But it's not preachy at all and very open and liberal. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. Also very friendly and community oriented. All the times I've been I don't think I ever heard a scriptural reference. So for me, that was a plus.
If you don't like it you can always not go back.
Small world...I live in Louisiana but often go to Denver to visit my sister and her kids. Love it there - especially in the summer when it is way to hot and humid in New Orleans.
i recently bought a bible after not having one or cracking one open for 18 years.
it's amazing how different it is now.
i thought it was all mumbo jumbo contradictions and insane ramblings.
You guys are awesome
LyinEyes - Aww don't you love pugs!
Elsewhere and DSJ - great links!! LMFAO
Ezekiel - Great find w/ the QFR The inclusion of the information about Lot and his daughters in the Scriptural record should really help us to appreciate that the Bible is a book of truth. Even when persons who were known as God?s servants became involved in improper acts, the Bible does not conceal this.(But the WTBTS does a very good job of hiding their improper acts.) However, at all times such things are recounted, not to entertain or to stimulate a desire to indulge in immoral conduct, but to provide a background for understanding other events.
Why would they even think of that - not to stimulate desire. Can you say "projection?" (putting your own unacceptable thoughts/desires onto someone else)
.
when you get up in the morning, how long does it take you to get to your computer and check things out on this board?
i mean, do you have breakfast first, get washed first....or are you just programmed to turn on your computer and check out the topics the moment you get up and then get on with your day.
I have to wait till I get to work - no internet at home. But it's definitely the first thing I do at work. (Shhh)
