  And this is why America needs gun control. A terrorist attack that yielded at most a person with serious but no life threatening injuries, vs a terrorist attack that leaves dozens dead.

  Prologos, would you really say 57 years or just 6 years? I would count you as only 6 years since I am not interested really in when the DF'ing occured but when you were completely awake.

  So far, the data is yielding some impressive insights (no data yet in 2010 since no one has answered that they were baptized in 2010 or later):
  
  Decade Average time to get out Standard deviation

  1960 25.8 years 7.69 years

  1970 22.1 years 11.89 years

  1980 21.0 years 6.09 years

  1990 14.3 years 6.90 years

  2000 8.5 years 3.22 years

  It is clear that 1975 led to a much higher variability, meaning that for a lot of people, 1975 truncated their stay with the Watchtower, but for a lot, it made no difference.

  It is also clear (and very encouraging) that every decade without exception sees a lower average stay in the Watchtower, and also the lower standard deviation means that the factor that is reducing the time that people stay in the Watchtower cult affects everyone. And I am going to say that the factor is... obviously, the internet.

  Now, my data may be skewed because I still have little data, I only have 70 responses, and the responses are naturally of people who are on the internet. Perhaps the people who came in the 70's are not on the internet and therefore will not participate on this survey.

  Yes Tich, and the graph and the data DOES show that. It shows two things, even with the limited data:
  
  1) Pre-internet, you could expect a wild variability in the time that one got out. Some got out very quickly, some took decades. It all depended on the person. But the average was much higher than it is now.

  2) post- internet, the variability has decreased significantly, and also, the time to get out has decreased significantly.

  Hi Talesin, it´s ok. People like you (the "outliers," aka the "exception to the rule") are very useful for statistics. But given 1000 people, you won't really have an effect on the average or the trend. What I see on the trend is that the variability is reducing.... i.e. some people who came in the 70's woke up faster than others, but the average was higher than now, and now, the average is much smaller and almost everyone is waking up at around the same time in.

  I think this would be an interesting stat that has never been done before. I am certain that the results will be that the internet significantly reduces time in for everyone. A graph of "time in" vs year would be very insightful. I am sure that there will be more "lifers" in previous generations, and much less now.

  I have tried this with another group on Facebook called exJW Recovery Group 3, and my own Facebook page in Spanish. So far, I have had about 60 responses and a clear trend can be seen, but I would like to have one thousand (1000) responses to have some very solid data.

  Your help with this will be greatly appreciated!

  it's easy to get down and disheartened about depressing world events.. it's important to remember that the good guys outnumber the bad guys, they just don't make the headlines as often.. so here's a nice story:.

  on sunday, 11-year-old tontrevion campbell went to church with his mom.. at the same time, police say, burglars entered his home and broke one of the commandments.. as the memphis police department describes it on its facebook page: "the thief or thieves stole several of his mom's items, but they also stole the young man's xbox game system and every single game that this 11-year-old owned.".

  there are quite a few adults who'd be upset.
