  Every Country and Land... Except Oman

  so the other day someone asked me what use was it to make the list of countries in which there have been reports.... well... to know that, as far as i can tell, there has never been preaching done in oman.. it has never appeared in any report, and the reports go back to 1926!.

  all other countries and lands have appeared, but not oman.. so there... first useful fact about the watchtower that we can get from 90 years of data..

  Yeah the politics of JW "lands" is an interesting study in itself. Categorising Northern Ireland as Ireland, and putting Taiwan under the Japan column it looks like in the photo above. Palestine listed sometimes too, separating Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, then adding them to US, but not Puerto Rico. Falklands as a separate land. In trying to be "neutral" they sometimes make the most surprising political choices.

  In the link you can see the "lands" as listed on the YB, then alphabetically, then you can see what years they were actually in there in the "Alpha+ Years active".

  Assuming that pre 1959, "Korea" meant both North and South, then yes, even North Korea at one point was "unbanned".
  
  Only Oman has never been "unbanned" and reported on a yearbook. Every other country in the "30 other lands", at one point was "unbanned" and reported.

  I now have the capability of (relatively quickly) doing world maps of the countries that reported each year. I plan to make a time-lapse of these countries from 1926 to now.

  • Oman is probably one of the "Thirty other lands". I understand there are two congregations in Oman, made up entirely of expats. One English, and one in one of the Indian languages (I can't remember which). They don't dare evangelise to locals.
    I have a friend, an XJW, who works in Oman. There are JWs there and they are active among the expat community.

  Then the correct thing to say is that it has NEVER appeared as one of the countries in which the witnesses can preach freely. Every other country has been "unbanned" at least for some time between 1926 and 2016, but not Oman.

  Watchtower Publications To Give Away

  it's now time to clear out my old literature lest it fall into the right hands.. there is a fairly large range of books, volumes, pamphlets and various keepsakes.

  some are unusual, say, part issues of the aid book and a live forever book that has had paragraphs altered in subsequent copies.

  i am in hoppers crossing, melbourne.

  i have the goal of digitizing all wt statistical data, as much as possible, as far back as possible.user 88jm.

  i recently did 1980 and i had a friend help me with 1979 and 1978.. do we have any volunteers to help me with previous years??.

  it's a lot of work, but if you know excel you can make some macros that will speed up the work..

  I have now finished all of the names of the countries that were in the report.

  Pre-1947, when the first report came out like we know it, I had to judge whether to include that country in or not. For many years, for example, the name appears in the report, only to say that there is no report because the country is banned. So I had to use my judgement there.

  What are you going to do with all the data?

  There is an incredible amount of things you can do once you have the data. For example, in what year were the witnesses covering the most/minimum amount of landmass of the Earth? There are some years, for example, where Russia and China were reporting. Easily the year in which the least number of countries reported was 1942.

  Once we have access to all of the data in digital form, there is sooooo much that is possible to analyze!!

  Are there any doctrines which all Christian religions follow.

  i cannot think of a single doctrine that is so clearly laid out in the bible that every christian sect teaches the same point.

  are there any doctrine where there is total consensus amongst all christian religions, including jehovah's witnesses?.

  How about fornication being wrong? I don't know... but putting it out there. At least "officially" I mean. In practice a whole different thing.
