  Zev................ham radio operator............WOW!

  Me too! Been a ham since 1977 and used to be a regular on the JW morning net on 80 and 40. Did a lot of afternoon skeds with the "bros" on 15 meters back in the '80's. It's nice to meet another xjw ham here.

  I still have all my equipment.........Icom 735, MFJ 9040 QRP rig, Heathkit HW 8 QRP and keyers and lots of other goodies. But alas.........no antenna right now. Lost my W9INN MPD5 about 2 years ago when my 60' tree had to come down.

  Been thinking of a vertical and better decide on one before it gets cold. I love operating in the winter. Checked out the Isotron antennas too and they are not to bad for single band operation. Did you know that the guy who makes the Isotron is a JW? I also belong to a local radio club for over 20 years. Hey.........who knows.......we might have talked to each other in the past.

  UPDATE: Good News About Nancy . . .

  just stopping in to say hi and i?m ok. thanks to those who sent concerned emails.. update on nancy: she is going through counseling at a voluntary facility where she will remain for another 1.5 weeks.

  we visit her often and she is very homesick by now.

  she is looking forward to a fresh start, which we are all working hard to give her.

  I'm so cool, I'm doing mikes!!

  did you ever notice how some guys ( because only males are allowed to do anything ) thought they were so cool just because they did mikes or were behind the magazine counter.

  why did they feel this way and what else can you think of that in reality was kinda stupid but to these guys felt really important and special to do?

  I lost my job at Microsoft today...thanks to a wonderful economy...

  for the last few years, many of my friends have lost their jobs and have not found suitable replacements.

  most are on unemployment, and those whose unemployment has run out are simply eeking out some meager existence doing something they don't like, that doesn't pay well, and doesn't help to really reduce the stress they face every day.. well, to be honest, i used to laugh my ass off at them.

  ha ha ha i would say.

  I am sorry for your job loss and the anguish you are going through. Losing a job with good income really sucks. But just think..................here in Western PA.......many people are trying to live..........and actually doing it on less than $25,000 a year. I don't mean this to be rude.........but anyone in this area would give their left nut/tit to make over $50,000 a year. Are you UNION? The most I ever made was just a little over $40,000 a year with good benefits and much overtime.And the only reason I and others made such BIG ?? money was the UNION. Now..........I'm not trying to compare oranges with apples..........but my job required a lot of education ...but when the time came..........I was just a number. Over the years I along with others endured many layoffs..wondering if we would ever have a good paying job again. We make fun of the dubs whose lifelong ambition is to be a janitor so they can pioneer..but when one loses a good job...........ONE may have to unwillingly clean toilets to feed the family.............I know.......because I did.

  Please don't take this as a mockery because it isn't. I'm just trying to say to anyone who loses a fantastic job to the political whims or downsizing so that the upper management can have their golden parachutes to just be able to humble themselves enough to do whatever it takes to feed the family. In the meantime........get active with "whoever" and get the goods on the idiots in charge.................................................................don't let them rest.

  Bottom line is....................forget modern education as to being in computers, law, medicine or whatever.............

  Encourage your young ones to be a plumber. Yes.................A PLUMBER! No matter how advanced and how educated society gets............everyone has to go to the toilet. And today............if you go to other than an approved bodily function "dispensal receptical".....you can be arrested.

  So ............what does this mean? A plumber is always necessary..............S**T always happens..............P is almost always yellow............ AND IT ALL FLOWS DOWNHILL! Oh....and yes.............HOT is on the left side of the sink.

  Hey............what did you pay the last time you needed a plumber? So....the $50,000 plus per year doing computer work pales to shoveling S**T.

  What book are you reading now?

  from time to time we like to share some good reads with each other on jwd, and now might be a good time to share with you what i'm reading this week.

  it's "the gate" by francois bizot which tells of his experiences as the only western prisoner to survive the khmer rouge in cambodia.

  in 1971, on a routine outing through the cambodian countryside, the young french ethnologist francois bizot is captured by the khmer rouge.

  Now reading "COMEBACK" by Dick Francis and anything else he (and his wife) author. Great reading without using much reasoning! (Most reasoning was wasted in my jdub years) And have also read most of Clive Cussler......and love his way with the underwater.....

  It doesn't take much mental anguish to read these authors..............their writings are recreational rather than doctrinal. almost like "big boy" comic books without the artwork.

  Recovering jw,

  My apologies to you. Nothing I said was directed at you and please don't feel bad about it. I was just kind of putting my own feelings into my post. What you stated was right on.

  Guess I should consider putting my brain in gear before answering a post. Some of what I said had nothing to do with your topic. There are many things I still need to learn about replying to a post. Maybe what I said can be considered "hijacking" a thread........I don't know but would appreciate "constructive" critisism. I'll be more careful next time.

  For those on this board who still pray...........please pray for my daughter and everyone else who may be affected by Francis. My daughter is in North Fort Myers and had damage from Charlie that is still in the process of being taken care of. Many others have faired worse. Some lost their lives in the very retirement parks where I looked at mobile homes to move into.

  The weather patterns are going goofy this year and now another BIG hurricane...........someone ........somewhere will be affected by this one also.

  The Friday that Charlie hit.........I was in New York and my daughter called me.....she was crying hysterically......and hiding in a closet with a mattress over her..........then the phones went dead. I wasn't in the best emotional state for a few days wondering about her being alone in the house since her other half was in Ohio for a week on business. I finally had phone contact with her 4 days later. What a relief to know that she was ok.

  So now........another one........a worse one.......heading to people many of us on this board know and love.......many on this board who live in the area the storm will affect. We need to send all of them our love.......and if needed........material help.

  Mel Gibson said in an interview that the hooded character (portrayed by an actress) was Satan. Without being a movie critic and not welcoming theocratic debate, I could figure that out for myself with the bible knowledge that I have. I thought the movie was great for those of us who believe that Jesus died for all and that this is how it was supposed to be.

  Gibson also injected some Catholic dogma into the movie. The woman who used a veil to wipe Christ's face was supposed to be Veronica............( a Catholic tradition) Hey.......I went to Catholic school and was going to go to a seminary..........but .......ALAS!.........my mother became a dub and convinced me that dubland was the true paradise. And so..........here I am today.

  Also...........I think the cross was supposed to weigh about 150 lbs. or so. If a healthy and strong carpenter was put through the strength sapping torture that Christ was put through......could you imagine how many times he would fall while being whipped with a scourge or whatever.

  So.........as I have recently read on the JWD.........about being tolerant of other beliefs............please be tolerant of my beliefs too. I believe in Jesus Christ and what he is according to the bible......
