recently, i've been reading through the international bible student's website.
i really like it and i'm reading as much as i can in order to get familiar with them.. however, i don't understand where exactly they came from.
they mention the name "charles russell" often and they also have some pictures of him on their site.

hi everyone, another lurker comes out.
my question is, what is the big deal about going to high school prom?
other than the usual bad associations spoil useful habits, can anybody thing of other specific reasons why jdubs are so anti-prom.

That same old line of BS. If they can't go to the prom and high school dances then where do JW teenagers go to get into drugs, booze and doing "it"? God knows that most of them are!
I let my daughter go to her prom in 1989 with a "brother", and I was an elder at the time. I figured if they found out, they would have to deal with me first. They found out and nothing was said. All it did was make the other teens PO's because they weren't allowed to go.
The dubs I was associated with would probably use this as ammunition to say that my liberal attitude is why me and my daughter lost Jehovah's spirit and are no longer in the "truf". Well....over half of the teens who couldn't go to the prom are no longer JW's either. Ha Ha! At least we have real happiness today.

i have been posting here for 6-8 months i guess.
it has been the best therapy i could have had.. i wish we could have a great big party and meet all the posters here in person.
i have not agreed with all, but i have been so aided in my recovery from the mental prison that is the wtbts by all your comments.

I always enjoy your posts and get something out of everyone of them. Seems I can identify with a lot of what you have been through.
This board has done a lot for me too and I feel the same as you do when you say..............
Anyway, I plan on being here for a while yet. But the reasons are changing for me. Now I want to be part of the healing process for others. My relationship here is changing from needing the support, to wanting to be the support for others
I haven't been through a fraction of what many here have had to put up with. Guess I'm lucky in that I have no one in the org. accept a couple of in-laws who still talk to me and still treat my daughter with all the love she needs.

Hi susu and welcome to the JWD forum.
Sorry you are going through this emotional torture but you will get more "unconditonal love " from this forum than you ever could have experienced in a Kingdom Hall.
Stick around, make friends and be a friend. You have only scratched the surface by speaking of your situation. Good advice has already been given as to reading Cricis of Conscience by Ray Franz and checking out the Silent Lambs web site. I also recommend freeminds.org, one of the better informational sites out there.
As you learn the real truth about the "truth", you will be dumbfounded and your jaw will drop. You may even get numb, but once you realize that YOU are important, it will all fit together like a puzzle.

also, does the resentment for jw's grow in a linear or a exponential manner with time spent as a jw?.
Mother was "fooled" into the "truf" in 1961 when I was 14 and pushed it at me all the time. I started studying when I got out of the Army in 1968 and baptized in 1970.....AFTER I already married my wonderful JW wife the year before.
Started slowly fading about 1998-99 and last meeting in 2003 (memorial) after not being at any meetings for well over a year. So I have to say............
9 years knowing about it.
33 years baptized.
42 years total.

there are some people (ex-elders) in my hall that are turning really creepy ... falling in and out ... in their 50's ... .
people say they can't understand how they used to be these cool elders, and now they are totally weird.
their kids are around my age and it is killing them to see their "previously elder father" falling in and out of the truth.

Those of us of the pushing 60 yrs. old class can relate to your post. The constant doctrinal changes...the blaming the rank and file for running ahead........the lack of love.........the failed prophesy's.etc. etc...........has made us think. Thinking is looked down on though! We are suppose to be perfect cookie cutter robots with a seguay mentality and what comes out of our mouth is supposed to be unified. Something like a tape recording playing over and over. Thanks, but no thanks. I didn't want to be a slave to an organization anymore.
Everytime I would read Rev. 1:1 where John refered to himself as a slave of Jesus Christ, it made me think. And that was years and years before I actually got a computer and got on the internet or started to doubt everything. I felt even then that I was just a slave of an organization.
I'm happy to say today that I am no longer that organizational slave and that I have a Christian freedom to be a slave of Jesus Christ. The internet and especially Ray Franz writings have set me free. And my daughter is free too.

Started fading about 1999 and as I learned more truth about the truth, I eventually vanished. Went to my last meeting (memorial) in 2003. That made it about 1 meeting in 2 years. So far my fade is successful. But then again, is there such a thing as a successful fader or will we eventually be searched out and have to make our final decission. I will DA before I let THEM do anything.

Thanks........that is a great site! I love Blues and a listener supported station here in Western Pennsylvania plays the Blues on Saturday from 5 PM til Midnight. You can listen live by going to WYEP and clicking "Listen Live".
On Sunday nights........it is Bluegrass from 5 til midnight.

if someone tries to ridicule you or put you down, how do you respond?
I haven't had to put up with anything like that since I faded. When I was active and the "legend in their own mind dubs" would try that with me, I gave it right back. I DID NOT turn the other cheek. Then I would avoid them and have only the necessary contact.
Today, I can banter with my friends and we all know that it is in fun. Life is great!
