i was very sceptical first but its interesting reading and i can understand how many feel with their views of jw's.. i/we went to the meeting on sunday, first time for 4 weeks.

Just like to say how interesting the posts are on here. I was very sceptical first but its interesting reading and I can understand how many feel with their views of JW's.
I/we went to the meeting on sunday, first time for 4 weeks. Heard a talk about "wisdom", we (wifey and I.......she'll kill me when she see's me call her that ........sorry lover xxxx !) couldn't believe how the speaker pointedly remarked to the unwise brothers and sisters who believed the 1975 bit ! He made out that the society had NEVER at all indicated about the 1975 situated it was purley "unwise" persons.
After reading, on here, how widespread and from the society this was, I'm amazed. We...lover & I... don't have any literature going back that far but does anyone have anything they could post me ??...it would be appreciated.

Interesting question, ............. my wife and I never drank, apart from the odd one at weekends, until we joined a new congregation which was a little "well to do" that is , many had money and good jobs.
Before we realised we were drinking every night which was (and still is) acceptable, all part of being in the center of the cong !
We had no alcoholics (that I knew off) but plenty of heavy drinkers, men & women. I believe most of the congs with money in the UK are very similar in this regard.

Guards at Stadium Conventions during Song and Prayer
by VM44 inwhen did the wt start having guards come out during the song and prayer at stadium conventions?
i noticed this at a convention in san diego, right before the song begins, a bunch of "brothers" come out and stand at key positions facing the seats, and scan the audience!
they remain until after the prayer, and they do not bow their heads during the prayer, but keep scanning the audience.

I've been involved with the conventions for several years and my pal was a big wig organising the teams. To my knowledge, there are basically 4 teams (in the UK)
1 Attendants: General care and well being
2) Fast response team: Attending to trouble spots
3) Health & safety: As name suggests
4) Watchers: Looking for intruders, which there will always be at such large gatherings of any kind
I don't know of any others and I've been (had) to every training session since 1995 and the only thing on the agenda is taking care of the brothers, I don't believe there is anything sinister.
The old photo's from the 40's are good to see but that was then and nothing like that goes on anymore??

has anyone turned up to the hall in leathers....if so what reaction did you get ?............any loving comments from the elders?

I bought a 1000cc superbike last year when I was still going to the meeting's, I had no bad comments but it was seen to be "questionable" and could tell that the elders disaproved, I'm a bit firey when confronted so nobody did !
They couldn't say too much as the PO drives the latest BMW's, it was one of those "well to do congs".
It had a definate "the have's & have nots". We were in the click until I stepped down, then we were dropped like a stone especially by the elders.

I think what your seeing are the attendants moving into their positions. All attendants have been instructed to look at the crowd during prayers and songs because the old and infirm have to stand and they should to see if anyone has any difficulty.
Nothing more sinister than this.
The only other team it could have been was the "fast response" team who go to dispel trouble spots around the stadium.??????
