Interesting. You'd read this and wonder how this could possibly happen to intelligent people....but here we are!

The joys of field service
by TallTexan ini posted this as a response under another post, but i couldn't resist starting a topic on it...lol.
does this sound familiar to anyone???
when i was a jw, i thought there was nothing cooler than getting up at 7 a.m. on saturday, getting showered, putting on dress clothes, meeting at 8:30 a.m., answering a bunch of phony 'how are you this morning's', watching as people jockey for position in their favorite car groups so that they could be with their friends (because god forbid you get stuck in a car group with someone not in your clique), and miss looney tunes while listening to some lame attempt at a 30-second presentation by brother monotonous, then being sure to get out by 9:00 a.m. 'cuz if you were with brother rule-conscious you couldn't start your time until you knocked on that first door.

In the summer it's like wearing 3 layers of Saran Wrap stuck to your sweaty legs and nether regions, topped by the obligatory slip made of another layer of Saran Wrap and then a matronly long skirt.
O.k., rebel8, I conceed - ties are NOT as bad as pantyhose
Send me some breakfast pizza and I'll send you some breakfast tacos....

For those of you born in.....
by lonelysheep ini want to say how brave i think all of you are for stepping out of the jw's, even if it's hidden (those of you still going).
whenever witnesses would knock on our door, i always felt they were ok and just worshipping god in the way they felt was right.
i never knew it came with soooo much stress and shunning if one does not comply.

My D/f appeal meeting went amazingly, but the still want to d/f me
by jwfacts insorry how long this is but i found the meeting very exciting.
the short version is i said directly that i do not believe in the wts, feel being d/f is unfair on my jw family so asked them to just leave me alone.
it didn't work.

Jehovah's Witnesses is just a pyramid multi level marketing business corporation. Somebody else wanted your down line.
Gary,
You always crack me up....lol.
JWFacts,
Very interesting read. LOVED the thought about all worldy people being like Nazi's - what a loving brother! Glad to see you're 'defending your faith', but you should have known better than to try and use the *gasp* Bible - where were your old bound volumes with the REAL spiritual information in them??
Hang in there. Do as much damage as you can. The more they get sued, the more harrassment they get, the more grief they get, maybe elders won't think it's worth it anymore....

And I responded: "No, you called her out, so you talk to her - I have nothing to say to her".
Sweet.....we had a couple of elders in our hall that would pull that trick....wish I'd thought of pulling that on them.

Nativity Plays scrapped due to JWs
by Clam inat a nearby school, the children have for many years performed a nativity play.
i hear now that due to the large number of jw kids attending the school, the play is now due to be cancelled indefinately.
this fits a modern british trend of political correctness where any risk of offence to minorities is identified and acted upon.

Hmmm...seems to be going around. Here in the U.S. we can't do ANYTHING that may offend ANY small group ANYWHERE.
Creating an environment where no one has any freedom to do what they want because it will offend someone else - sound familiar?

JW's on TV
by Bumble Bee inrecently i've seen more jw's on tv.
first it was jayla on america's next top model - described as "the rebel jw".. the other day i saw a psa on omni tv about diabetes and it pictured an older man sitting by his piano and there was a "sing praises to jehovah" displayed.. yesterday i saw a program on the lifenetwork about jackie - a jw woman that had breast re-construction after cancer.
it showed her attending a meeting at the kh, (gag alert) - everybody was hugging and kissing each other, singing etc, showed her reading her nwt, and going out in service using the standard greeting - "hi, my name is jackie and this is my friend pat - we'll be very brief - we're just talking to the people in your neighbourhood today - latest wt and awake yadda yadda yadda".

I'm sure everyone else has seen it, but I just caught the Michael Jackson bio thingy on MTV where they talk about Papa-Joe havin' all his ho's in front of the boys, while their mom was beating them over the head with the truth. Had Bill Bowen on it. Interesting.

Once I moved out on my own and had my own car I would show up for the FS meeting and then drive home.
Elsewhere...lol. Our cong was too small to have one of those "Elder's cars". But that's a good idea. Kinda like ridin' around with the foreman on the jobsite. Is that where you got your forum name? People'd be out in the territory and say "Where's ____? He was at the meeting for field service..." Then someone would say "Well, he must be ELSEWHERE!!"...Get it...Elsewhere?? <whooo....I'm killing myself here>

You didn't mention just how good you feel when it's over..."I don't have to feel guilty the rest of this day!"
True, true....what's funny is that you didn't feel guilty, but you accomplished NOTHING!!! There is NO feeling as good as knowing you've knocked on that last door on a Saturday morning - it almost made the car ride back to the hall worth it....almost......
Virgogirl....I'll swap you pantyhose for a tie anyday...lol. There is NOTHING worse than a tie on a hot day (typical male perspective).

The Unkindest Cut: Hateful Words from JWs that Show Their True Colours
by Scully ini decided to start this topic when ozziepost shared the experience of a bethel representative telling him and mrs. ozzie "and don't forget, we've got your children!
it's important for us to hear these experiences and to share them with each other.
it helps us tear down the mistaken beliefs that the incidents that happen to us are not isolated ones, but are in fact par for the course when one parts ways with the jws and wts.

The terrible thing is that I know I said awful things to people when I was a braindead and heartless JW.
Ditto - I was just thinking about that....
