I used to help with the count at meetings. I was told to count every man, woman, child and baby.

Official - There are 6 million Bible Studies - but where are they?
by truthseeker inthis was mentioned at the service meeting.. but, it should be worrying to the society, not as wonderful as it may sound.
the number getting baptized each year is shrinking rapidly.. at one time, they boasted of baptizing 1000 dubs a day which equals to 365,000 dubs.
this was back in 1997.. at the dc this year, it was 5,000 a week.

Idea for when "Beware the Voice of Strangers" is studied
by joenobody inafter reading the "beware the voice of strangers" article, a thought occurred to me.
it has been suggested in the past that a number of board members ought to attend a particular meeting all on the same day.
why not on the sunday when this article is studied?

anyone read SURVIVOR by chuck palahniuk?
by doogie inyeah, i'm not sure how to spell his last name.
he's the guy that wrote fight club.. i read this book a while ago and was amazed at the way he describes cult life and especially post-cult life.
the story is about a guy that left a cult and the premise is he's the only left on a plane that is almost out of gas and he's telling his life story into the plane's black box so that something will be left after he's gone (i thought that was a great idea for a book).. i was sure chuck palah...whatever-his-name-is used to be a jw.

i own all of his books, including: Invisible Monsters, Diary, Lullaby, choke, fight club, A walk through Portland, and survivor. My favorite to this point is Choke. I really got into it. My elast favority is Diary, for some reason, its just not drawing me in like his novels usually do.
I think the reason he fascinates us, is that his main characters almost always have some sort of f-ed up notion in their heads, or are totally crazy.
Personally, I love his books, he has been my favorite author ever since I read fight club

Were You Treated With Respect When Counseled By The Elders?
by minimus ini knew a certain few elders that really got off by "talking down" to the "flock".
many elders were pretty nice guys but a few could turn----just like that!
what was your experience with "those taking the lead", the "loving shepherds"???

Never really had any problems with elders...Circuit Overseerers on the other hand. Br. Molovski (the CO) came up to me during his winter visit, this being right after i was diagnosed with Bi-polar type II. I was in the restroom, hiding out from people I didnt feel like talking to, and he came in...
"Sam, are you okay?"
"Um, well, Im just really depressed right now, and I really dont want to see anyone..."
"Well that doesnt matter, you need to put aside your feelings and think about what Jesus would do!"
"I really dont want to...its not really an issue, I am i here alot"
"Well, I'll talk to your parents about that. Depression is just another trick Satan uses on us to stop us from doing God's work, Its not real, its just in your head"
OMFG that made me so angry. That was the last time I saw him. Maybe..7 months ago? Right before I really started to fade....Never saw him again, and Ive been happier since.
If he died, I can honestly say the world would be a better place......Same for Br. Aliki....my goodness that guy can be a manipulative little ****.

Convention Drama creeps out JWs?
by ezekiel3 ini am getting news from jws who have attended the district convention that the drama (which is pre-recorded and played to lip-syncing actors) has a demon-possessed woman with a ?demonic voice?.
can anyone confirm this?
it is said to be pretty creepy sound effect and many jws are uncomfortable when they hear it.
