If it was a mistake, it was inexcusable.

Not really. Accidents happen in war. The Syrian border is a hotbed of gun smuggling and terrorist infiltration. Some Marines were killed there a few weeks ago, so there are bad guys in the region. It would make sense to an AC-130 pilot that if there are weapons being fired, it stands a very good likelyhood that they are under attack or an American force of some kind is under attack. Now, if the same AC-130 gunship was flying over a Seattle Mariners game and saw the fireworks display as an attack, and opened fire on Safeco field, killing fans in the ballpark, that would constitute what you call an "inexcusable" mistake. Oh, and shit happens.

If it was a gathering of hostiles, then it was still a mistake. Go kill the hostiles, not the children.

Uhmmm...I'm not sure how to answer this one. If there are a bunch of bad guys who are also really bad fathers and bring their kids around dangerous situations, then isn't the bad fathers to blame?

i downloaded the beheading of nicholas berg and watched the video over and over.

my opinion is that the video was edited to the max and berg was already dead when they cut his head off.

I've seen quite a few beheadings by Islamic extremist on the Ogrish.com site, mainly by Chechnan Terrorist who used the same method of execution as Nick Berg's killers. They take a big knife, pin the guy down and saw away at his throat. You hear a gurggling sound as his screams/crying are interuppted by the knife severing the vocal chords. Then the blood pours out, but doesn't spurt or spray, and the convulsions aren't all that severe, considering what's happening. Nick's wasn't any different. In fact, I think the guys probably spent time in Chechnya at some point. Does that make them Russian mercanaries hired by the CIA? Here's a NEWSLFASH FOLKS: Islamic insurgents have been fighting in Chechnya for YEARS. Al Zarqowi I'm sure has a few buds he can call on there to help him in Iraq. So if there was some Russian speaking, well, they very likely could be from that region. DUH! It's really a who's who of Islamic fundamentalist these days. Has anybody ever heard the reports of foreign fighters in Iraq? ANOTHER GROUNDBREAKING STORY.

As far as the ring goes, check out the Daniel Pearl video. That guy who sawed off Danny's head wore a ring too.

So to all you wanna-be medical Coroners out there, before coming to any conclusions try watching more real executions as part of your education before delivering assinine verdicts that are more based on Hollywood movies than the real thing. Real life executions can be a let down after witnessing slow motion death scenes for years in films and TV.

Also, to answer someone's question as to why people would watch this sort of thing, the answer is simple: To know the reality. Everything we get is sanitized, neat, and clean. Nothing will show you the truth of the situation better than an uncensored video of it. If you're going to make bird-brained assertions about something you've never seen, how can your opinion possibly matter?

Watch it. It's the truth about radical islamic fundamentalism You wanna know what the funny thing is? It wasn't the beheading the disturbed me the worst. IT was the chant of Allah Akbar. Downright Creepy. .

The fact of the matter is, it is a WMD probably taken from a hidden stockpile of some kind. Whether or not it's from the Iran Iraq war, what does that matter? It's a weapon Saddam was NOT allowed to have, not even one. And one little shell alone is enough to violate the UN ban. So therefore, the discovery of this little shell has justified the reason to go to war.

It's a sad day for Bush haters everywhere.

God or Goddess, does the supreme have a gender?

some people say the supreme being is male, some say it is female.. some call it goddess, some call it god.. of course this all pre-supposes one exists in the first place, but that aside, what do you think?

does god have a gender, what is that gender and what do you call it god or goddess?.

for me, i don't think god has a gender, if one exists.

God is a he-she. A combination of both male and female qualities.

The male part is pure conciousness, hence why men tend to me more intellectual.

The female part is creativity, hence why women give birth, the ultimate form of physical creation on our planet.

By combining pure conciousness and it's infinite possibilities with the creativity or "active force", the creation is created.

Will science ever replace religion?

first, there've been some really good threads here lately...i've been somewhat pre-occupied with a rather laborious personal project, so i haven't been able to engage myself in your conversations as much as i'd otherwise like; but i like to watch .

but, to the point: recently, scott atran (anthropologist, author of in gods we trust, and now working with the national center for scientific research in paris, and at the university of michigan) gave an interview in discover magazine.

the topic was "the surprises of suicide terrorism," but the concluding question (and answer) was what struck me most:.

I personaly believe that advances in quantum physics will meld religious and scientific theory together. Science can only explain things on the physical and mental realms. There are no scientific tools to deal with meta-physical issues. Just because we don't have a way to measure "dark matter" in the universe, doesn't mean it doesn't exist, as scientist are begining to find out.

I think quantum physics is the bridge between both worlds. I don't see anything for creationist or evolutionist to fear. I don't think they cancell each other out. (Unless your an idiot and believe the universe was created in 7 days about 6000 years ago.).

something i have been wondering about lately.. whether you believe in god or not, are a christian or some other religion or no religion at all, i'd be interested in your opinion.. according to those who believe in the bible including most christians, god condemns the use of 'special' powers/abilities.

for example, esp, tarot, astrology, consulting a medium, spells etc.

however, if god created us, did he not give us the ability to develop and use such powers?

I just meant that I'm up to the challenge of figuring out EXACTLY what is happening, and by that i mean using scientific methods as one means an the end.

If the experiences are just physiological, then cool, I have some interesting physiological things happening. If it's something else, why not document it from a scientific point of view?

I respect skeptics. Believe me when this first started happening i freaked more because of the fact i was afraid of having to listen to these new age freaks tell me what they thought was happening. That's why I went and saw some real, clynical psychologist to get an accurate first assesment. I'm not crazy, i'm not on any medication. I hold a day job at Microsoft. So i'm surrounded by rational minds all day long who would scoff at what I'm saying. Which is why i don't tell many people about this.

To be honest, i'm sick of talking about myself. I don't want to sound like a new age idiot. If anyone knows anybody who's into this type of research, let me know.

skeptics and the paranormal

i?m almost sure that skeptics will remain silent on this or say it?s an aberration and does nothing to confirm the existence of paranormal activity.

skeptics assert that they will not accept such things unless they meet some predefined ?scientific methodology?.

I've been writing in another thread about some similair issues.

I can readily induce a state of meditation where certain (what i think are paranormal experiences) will happen.

It's something i can induce in a lab environment with no problems. I can induce it just about anywhere, so why not a lab.

I'm guessing one way to analyze what's happening is doing a lie detector test (to make sure at least "I" believe what is happening is happening, and I'm not faking it.) and to then try hooking up my head to a machine that can monitor changes in brain activity. Such as seeing what type of brain waves (alpha,delta) i admit during different parts of the process.

Until science can develop different tools to analyze what's happening, i believe these would work for now.

rem, I don't get what your saying. All I can say is this, and then I'm letting skeptics remain skeptics and people who are open to this sort of thing believe whatever they want.

A few years ago I began meditation. Sometime recently i began performing yoga like movements spontaneously, along with chanting words that turn up in google's search engine as well as metaphysical books as Sanskrit bija mantras, sufi words for the name of god and sometimes polynesian martial arts chants.

I believe that regardless of whether or not something is Sanskrit, or Sufi, Aramaic, or of Polynesian decent, it could be all traced to one common source. Think about this, the word "EL" is Hebrew, another name for God. "EL" is known to be a root of the word "ALLAH". Two different words, but a same common ancestor.

A lot of these things i'm saying also turn up during internet searches as people's names or pieces of cheese or whatever, but the one common thing threading them all together is their references to GOD or high spiritual experiences. And the fact that they happen during meditation, in addition to spontaneous yoga, leaves me to believe they are all related together. If you were performing a meditation, and began to do weird yoga with no previous experience, and also chanted words like "OHM HAM THAM KRIM KLIM" and later did some research on the matter and discovered that these words were Sanskrit for sounds used during meditations, don't you think that would be an interesting coincidence?

Do you get what I'm saying? I could just be babbling incoherently for all i know, but the commonality amongst everything happening (meditation, yoga, mudras, chanting) seems to lead to me to believe I've accessed something outside our normal human conciousness.

If you know anyone who's into this kind of research, I'd be happy to lend myself and my experiences to them. I'm not just mouthing off here, neither am I trying to coherse people into believing me just posting to a forum. But I bet you I could offer up some interesting data in the name of science regarding these experiences. Something tells me I'm not suffereing from a brain tumour.

Your absolutely right. None of that was Sanskrit. I was trying to say that in addition to Sanskrit some other words have come out, and there meanings (I believe) can be found in Sufiism and Hawaiian hakas. I believe that the common ancestor or meaning behind all religious thought has manifest itself in many different cultures and belief structures. Sanskrit is a big one, but I'm assuming it shares some commonality with others. The Polynesians didn't have access to sanskrit, but nonetheless may have had contact with supernatural sources and found a way to articulate it differently.

The origin of "HU" if you continue to study it will eventually take you back to it's Aramaic roots.

There's a risk to that; "hafag leksek hewejoh wahes fahojehijes" is a random string of characters I made by hitting the keyboard, then adding vowels enough to make them proper words. Hafag, leksek and wahes all return search results. Does this mean my kundalini is breaking out

Did they return as Sanskrit words, or words from another language that mean GOD or have some relation to spirituality? Or was it the name of a Norweigen word or person? See what I'm getting at? It be one thing if i typed in a word i was chanting and it came back meaning "Laundry" in Czech. But when it comes back meaning "the name of god" or "a meditative chant used my hindus", then something is strange is afoot. How would i know that? I've never heard these words before.

I never bothered to do any internet research until AFTER these things began to manifest. Your right though, sometimes words like "HAM" will come back in google as a piece of meat you put on a sandwich. But when I put two and two together, that being doing spontaneous yoga, doing weird sign language with my hands AND saying something such as "HAM" "THAM" or "OM", it leads me to speculate something is at work outside the normal parameters of human life.

In any case, I would love to donate my body to science. If anyone knows anyone interested in this stuff, i would gladly volunteer. Maybe I do have a tumor. IF i do, it's having a very interesting effect on me.
