And I believe it's the US interest and the interest of reasonable people everywhere to stop the spread of Islamic Fundamentalism. Not a bad interest to have.

The obvious is I would prefer a body like the UN working out a consensus decision through democratic maneuvering. It takes longer but it assures a more civil world.
Oh Jeez, et's not forget how effective the UN is.
Do you know who's been primarily responsible for enforcing UN resolutions? THE USA. Without the USA, the UN is nothing.
Unfortunately for the UN, they have a bad habit of not having the guts to enforce their own resolutions. So until they get their heads out of their @$$'s, it looks like the US has to do it's own dirty work.
Here's the dilemna the US faces in the Middle East. We could have gone into Iran and gave them democracy. But of course, if we such a thing, we're immediantly considered to be Imperialist, colonialist, oil-hungry tycoons. We put the Shah into power and supported Saddam simply because the only choice we had at stopping the flow of Islamic Fundamentalism was to choose the lesser of two evils. Liberals whine about this process every step of the way, yet have no relevant solution to the problem. Unless you enjoy Islamic Fundamentalism, your left with few choices in the Middle East.
It would help if you understood the subtle nuances of Mid East politics before you came to such conclusions...

Iraqis mad as hell at Al-Jazeera

I've heard reports of Al-Jazeera reporters being chased through Baghdad due to their support of Saddam Hussein during the war. Here is a little excerpt from arab news.com
If not, there will be scorn and derision from the outside world, even from those who were opposed to this war in the first place. Iraqis too will not thank fellow Arabs. The Arab world may end up being more divided then ever as a result. Yesterday’s impromptu demonstration in Baghdad against Al-Jazeera TV station, accused by demonstrators of having been pro-Saddam, suggests that that may be already happening...
the rest of the article is here:
http://www.arabnews.com/Article.asp?ID=25041
What's really interesting about this article is the amount of BACTRACKING these guys in the arab press are doing these days. All they could talk about during the entire war was how this was a war of IMPERIALISM and a CRUSADE pitting christian versus muslim. Now look at what they say:
The fall of Baghdad is no reason for loss of Arab pride. There is no national Arab humiliation. This is not a war between Arabs and the US, or between a faithful Muslim state and a crusading, militant Christian West
I think the light is finally dawning on them. To their credit this editorial does start to reconcile some differences, but still, these people can't backpedal fast enough. Goes for a lot of people in the US on the left....

dolphman: I must warn you about your continued, insulting and aggressive attitude
Well, sorry if you deem in insulting and aggressive, but personally, i think it affects people in your position mostly because it hits home and is the truth, and you can't deal with it, unfortunately.
You obviously are not too good at reading or comprehending or else you would have seen that it was ME who posted what you replied to, not Angharad!
Well you got me on that one. I guess that makes everything i say invalid.
You think I'm implicated as a supported of Saddam? Now you really are losing it pal. What you gonna do? Declare war on me next?
Absolutely. The fact is, if we'd listened to you and others and fell victim to the anti-war propaganda, Saddam might still have that cigar hanging out his mouth and firing his SKS assault rifle from the balcony of one of his presidential palaces. I won't declare war on you personaly, but i will declare on your and unwillingness to accept the fact that many of things people said would happen DID NOT HAPPEN and should be held accountable to those things.
The reality is that America and Britain have "won the war" ... so far. They have yet to win the peace and have a hell of a lot of patching up to do on the world stage.
True, except for the fact i don't feel they have anything to patch up. We did the right thing, we can't help it if everyone else had their head up their @$$, don't you think?

Hey, is that the best you can do? Seriously, is that the best you can do?
C'mon keep trying...c'mon now
look, take baby steps, it helps.
first, form an intelligent though, then articulate it using your vocal chords into sound that travels through the air and is picked up by the ears of someone else and recognized as what's called a "thought-provoking" statement. Then, you'll have what's called a debate with someone.
cool huh?

Thank you Terry...
I don't want these people to get away with it. The fact is their previous statements have been wrong, dead wrong, and they have to live with it.
I am not oblivous to the fact that certain people hate us. I just don't care. I can't help they've been stuped and brainwashed by the baath party into believing whatever. Not to mention they probably watch too much AL-Jazeera. Did you hear about the Al-Jazeera news crew that was chased out of Southern Iraq by pro-American Iraqis? Apparently they were fed up with the way Al-Jazeera was reporting the war. I heard it on MSNBC last night. Haven't seen this story picked up yet by anyone else, but there you go.
They won't hate us once we leave Iraq restored with humanitarian aid, plenty of water, and freedom from the Baath party. If Bush is serious about Mid East peace with the Palestinians, they'll even have less reason to hate us.
And again, so what if they hate us. They're free to hate whoever they want now.

I have never felt so sorry for a group of people in my entire life.
You jump on ANY possible desperate option at downplaying the signifigance of what has happened in these past 3 weeks and especially in the last day. Why?
Because you've all been called on your bluff. All your ranting and raving about how awful the US is has been shown up by smiling cheering Iraqis kissing pictures of George Bush. You can't STAND it can you?
Listen to your pathetic arguments. The picture shows plenty of people at the saddam toppling site. Considering its still a war zone, i'm surprised that many people turned up. It still shows plenty of people happy at the fall of Saddam. Throughout the city people are rejoicing. No one put a gun to the head of the man kissing the picture of George Bush. What the hell was he doing with a picture of George Bush anyway? He must have had that thing hidden away for quite sometime, waiting for the day he could display it publicly. Obvioulsy, he's happy to see some Americans.I don't remember seeing a tank gun pointed at his head.
ON msnbc Iraqi people in the street are reported to be publicly debating for the first time ever. Discussing the events and the role the americans will play in a post-Saddam Iraq. Some are afraid, but not afraid to tell americans their doubts about their reasons for coming here. Surely, if they were as afraid of the Americans as they were of Saddam, they wouldn't say things like this. But see, they know for the first time that they are truly free. Free to express themselves without being shot.
Listen to you guys whine: Americans kill defenseless journalists (boo-hoo it's a warzone. A sniper WAS shooting from the building. Even if a sniper can't take out a tank, it sure as hell can kill a US marine on the ground nearby, duh!).
All of your backtracking makes me SMILE. It's such a pathetic sight it's almost sad, but really more humorous than anything.
keep trying though, i need the laughs.
