i find it amazing that a religious movement predicting the end of the world for almost 150 years, still maintains a following!
soon, all the older zealots will be dead, the baby-boomer jws will be old and retired, and the bulk of the jw labor force will consist of all the "worldly music - listening", facebook using, living as close to the edge of wt standards as possible, youth of today.
as they mature, grow older and began to seek social status for themselves among other jws by pursuing appointments like ms and elder, they will probably morph into a replica of their parents.
Unfortunately, I agree with you. The third world countries is their last hurrah. After that, it's all down hill. Look what happened in Japan. Japan was a "second world" country with regard to acquiring new converts ten or so years ago. Now, from what I understand, it has declined rapidly, most probably due to the internet. Once the internet is really taken hold in third world countires, there's nothing left for the Watchtower...."Where else can we go"???

a jw man just stopped by about an hour ago and offer me a convention tract which i respectfully declined.
i just went to take some trash out and found a tract on my neighbor's door and i promtly took it.
i think i remember some folks on the board have already received a tract from drop in jws.
Mr.s Jones, I've done the same thing in the past.......turn j.w.'s away from my door, without engaging them. I have to admit, I am not good at engaging anyone in a debateable conversation.
So, what do I do now? If I see them, I look for an opprotunity to "place" anti-jw material. Why not? they "place" their stuff, so why can't I? This way, I get my "seed" planted, (hopefully), and don't have to debate them.
Why do I want to do this? Because this is how I can "possibly" help a j.w. see that their thinking is wrong, and help them to get out of this cult, which, I am supposing, you, Mrs. Jones, was in before, too.
So what got you out, Mr's Jones? Was it "seeds" that were planted by someone who wanted to help you out of the Borg, or did you just figure it out for yourself? Either way, is fine, but I think planting seeds is a more meaningful way to "rid" yourself of the j.w. scourge, and you missed a great opportunity to plant some.
Oh, and in case you are wondering, Moshe gave me this same advice, and I took him up on it. I forwarded this article that is on the news about Harold Campings "cult" to my soon to be baptized daughter, in the hopes that maybe she or her hubby will take notice of the similarities with this cult, and the one they are getting stuck in.
I respect your decision to "do nothing", but if we all did nothing, perhaps many more j.w.'s won't see the light, and leave this destructive cult.

the article that caught my eye as i was thumbing through it was on page 18 entitled "a peaceable people defend their good name".
this was all about the issues being addresssed in russia and how the j.w.
's were being oppressed/repressed.. but if you look in the box to the left under "a note to the citizens of russia", you will see that they quote the scripture in luke 12:2 "there is nothing carefully concealed that will not be revealed, and secret that will not become known.".
A few years back, there was a Watchtower or Awake titled..."Are the Jehovah's Witness"s a cult"?

Thanks for all your kind replies. I know she and her hubby love us, and really want to do things with us. We do see them sometimes, but the Holiday things still hurt. I'll take your advice and go to dinner with them, but I have a tendency of putting my foot in my mouth, sometimes both of them, so I'll have to bite my lip and try real hard to let it all slide.
I'll tell you what else happened...my other daughter, who is not and won't ever be a j.w. (thanks to me) called her j.w. sister and told her it was our anniversary, and my j.w. daughter told her thanks for telling her, and that she had forgot it was our anniversary, and don't know how she could have forgotten that. So, my non-j.w. daughter answered...."It's probably because you don't celebrate any other Holidays with us, so you didn't remember that one".
That's what I would have loved to say, but won't. It did get me off the hook, so I am glad she told her that.

I haven't posted in a long, long time, so many of you don't know me. I was never a J.W. One of my daughters is involved with them, and will be baptized soon.
Anyway, it's my anniversary, 43 years today, (May 11), and my j.w. daughter calls me and wishes me a "Happy Anniversary", then invites my wife and I out on Sunday to "celebrate" it. I really don't want to go. Every Holiday, we get hurt because she and her hubby don't show up. Not even a call on Mother's Day, but oh, when it's our anniversary, we get the call. I am still hurt that she didn't even call her Mom on Mothers day, yet she wants to take us out for our anniversary. I just don't feel comfortable doing that. I mean, if they can't celebrate Mother's Day, why should they be allowed to celebrate anniversaries? It's basically the same thing.
So, I don't know what to do. I feel like calling her and telling her in a nice way that I really don't feel comfortable doing this. It's just ridiculous. There's no sense to it at all. I'm tired of being hurt all the time, then getting a call and acting as if there's nothing wrong with this picture.
Cheer me up? Any advice? Thanks.
