there's a new book coming out next year, "intimate world of abraham lincoln," by dr. c.a.

tripp which claims that abraham lincoln was gay.

he asserts that lincoln was predominantly homosexual and only incidentally heterosexual.

i've read claims (mentioning origen) that jude 9 would be a quote from the "assumption of moses", also known as the "testament of moses".

however, i can't find any reference in this pseudepigraphical writing that would even losely have a connection to a fight between michael the archangel and the devil.

what i also find confusing, that the "book of jubilees" is sometimes called "testament of moses" too, but that's a whole different story.

wow, thanks for the great info. interesting that origen mentions the "canon", also. i'm not that good at greek, but isn't didymus talking about the apperance of moses, eliah and isaiah along with jesus to the disciples here?

what do you read at Matthew 27:52,53 ?

reading my bible daily ,i am enjoying what i read, especially not having to constantly refer to wt literature all the time .but simply reading what is in black and white in the holy scriptures.. i came across this portion of scripture at matthew 27:52,53 .

and the memorial tombs were opened and many bodies of the holy ones that had fallen asleep were raised up,(and persons,coming out from among the memorial tombs after his being raised up,entered into the holy city,)and they became visible to many people.. two things that come to my mind from this portion of scripture.

1/ dead people are raised ie holy ones.. the society says that these were bodies that became visible that fell out from the tombs because of the earthquake ??.

thanksgiving is as old as humanity. the jews had 3 thanksgiving celebrations every year, one of them being pentecost. a international common date is impossible, because every zone has different harvesting times. only since a few decades some countries have picked a date to celebrate thanksgiving (usually in autumn).

where did jude get that michael/devil story from? is there yet another document called "assumption of moses"?

Rod of Asclepios and the Brass Snake

this one is for the history/myth experts out there.

i've already seen a lot of common legends in greek/mesopotamian/hebrew mythology (the flood, the tree of life, ...) especially after reading the gilgamesh epos.

when i was little i always ment the sign on farmacies (the rod of ascleipos) to be the brass snake moses made to save the israelites from the snakes-bites (wich was later an idol the israelites worshipped).

has anyone here read the popol vuh? there's a lot about a snake, creation, underworld, playing football and stuff like that too...

ningishita? who's that? that the snake could be asherah (ashtoreth/ishtar) is a interesting thought... ishtar is sometimes shown as a "tree of life".

but what also comes to mind is the mythology of precolumbian american cultures - think about quetzalcoatl, the aztecs feathered snake (mayan equivalent is "gucumatz"), wich plays a big role in the creation story.

any connections there?
