No one can really prove Whether there is or isn't a god.
noone can really prove whether there is or isn't a tooth-fairy or santa clause either. all we know is that humans put the dollar or the presents instead of them. and all we know is that humans wrote books and talk instead of god.
If you want help with your faith then go to, bbs.crystalcathedral.org ...
why would anyone need help with their faith? ah, because those people know all about god, right. just like daddy knows all about santa.

Ok so you left the idea of God - what would it take to come back?
by Qcmbr inone point that has played many times on my mind (and is fairly central to my world view) is that if god exists its up to him to prove it.
what would it take for you to accept god?

evanescence, the bible is not one book, it is a compilation of books. some of them are very old, some of them are very very old. and they are definately not the only books that were around at the time. do you believe everything you read in the iliad and odissey? they are pretty old. historical. "historians" found troy. so it must all be true, right? the greek mythology actually contains a lot of religion and ethics, it actually makes a lot more sense than the hebrew mythology (although they are partially related anyway). a pantheon with gods who seduce sexy humans, are jealous and have hangovers seems to be a lot more acceptable than a single deity with attributes that just don't fit reality.

evanescence, you have serious problems backing up your claims...
you think god exists because the bible talks about jerusalem and jerusalem exists? so if jerusalem exists, the rest of the bible must be true? hmmm... i don't know if this argument is good enough to convince me.
i saw the movie "the day after tomorrow" (it wasn't worth the money btw) some time ago. new york city occured there. new york exists. are you sure the rest of the movie must thus be true too?
the tooth fairy at least leaves a dollar, god doesn't do anything. did you have any visible benefit (except the usual emotional placebo type) yet? did he ever leave a dollar next to your bed?
now if he'd leave me a mastercard with the name "jehovah god" next to my bed with the numbers 6666 6666 6666 6666 and it actually works, i'd definitely be a believer again. you hear me, jay? if you are all that omnipotent, why don't you do it? don't want to mess around with our economy? -

What book helped "open your eyes"
by Shawn inthe obvious two would be coc and isocf.
are there any others that had an impact on your beliefs/doubts?
are there any that are not apostate?
-

same as almostatheist and ip_sec.
i would have never touched an "apostate" book, not because of my own feeling, but the first thing the elders would ask if you have doubts is "did you read apostate literature?", which i never had to lie about (now the internet is another issue). still havent read coc or similar literature. -

DOES THE BIBLE CONTAIN ANY VALUABLE OR USEFUL FACTS AT ALL???
by Terry infact: a statement or assertion of verified information about something that is the case or has happened
i've read the bible many times in many ways with many methods.
but, i don't really see in it any information that contains factual material that benefits anybody.

evanescence, science CAN do that. it's called "placebo".

Have you conquered the indoctrination?
by Frog insomething i?ve wanted to ask you all for a while.
had you 100% denounced jw doctrine to yourself at the time of your leaving the org?
i know many have said that specific issues prompted them to leave i.e., wt membership in the un, silent lambs/child molestation policy, malawi political party card issues, inconsistent changes in doctrine i.e., 1975/1914 generation not passing?new light begets old light begets new light etc.

Hi. Remeber that debate we had? I hope you are not mad at me! We just didn't see eye to eye on the Bible! I am surely not mad at you! I like you as a person!
hi inquirer, don't worry, i'm not a person who gets mad so easily, at least not for long ;-)
as for deprogramming - i never actively tried to deprogram in a sense of "i don't want to believe that anymore". i simply stopped believing step by step. getting as much (also controversal) information as you can get is essential, no matter if you want to believe the jw belief or not. i simply was tired of being patronized in what i have to believe. -

apart from the historical value there's absolutely nothing special about the "wisdoms" of the book. one could read laotse's "tao te king" and live his life as good (though less judgmental) as a "christian" (where "paulinian" would usually be a better term).
then again, one doesn't need to read a religious book at all to live a good life. actually it's contraproductive. at least if you really take it serious. -

My father will lose his privileges if he attends my sister's wedding
by Goldminer inmy sister is planning on getting married within the next few months.her jw husband committed adultery and left her when their son was 7 weeks old.after getting a scriptural divorce she began a friendship with a "worldly" man and now this friendship has grown to a soon-to-be marriage.
this man studied with the jw's for a while but could see right through them found too many of their teachings didn't make sense so he stopped studying.he's made his stand with my sister and told her she can still attend meetings if she wants to.he's also a good worker and seems to really love the kids.he's not perfect but no worse than many jw husbands.
anyways, the elders pulled my dad aside on tuesday night and told him he could(could????!@#*?

happens all the time. and usually everyone obbeys. they just don't know what bad witness they give to the worldly relatives. that's the good side of it.

I'm more interested in the Bible now that I believe it isn't inspired (?!)
by GetBusyLiving ini downloaded a ton of 'the teaching company' lectures on the formation of christianity and the gnostics, and have been reading books on the creation of the bible for the past six months or so.
if you havent looked into this stuff already, i'm telling ya it is some really facinating stuff.
are you at all like me and have become more interested in the bible since realizing it isn't inspired??

For I believe the Bible itself clearly indicates that it was deliberately written in a way that would allow those who prefer to reject its contents the opportunity to do so.
LOL
