Counting time....what really counts
by arwen ini have a friend that is a pioneer and lives in another province.
she calls quite a bit early in the morning to chat, always says to say hi to my husband and children who are not baptized.
i am baptized and i was wondering if she could count her time talking to me.

"everything counts in large amounts"
witnesses count everything and more. our service overseer used to quickly leave a tract somewhere before the meeting, so he "started service". then he sat in the meeting and made another call after it... he counted all the time.
same thing when going to some remote village. place a tract somewhere, then drive for an hour, walk for a while, place a mag, walk back, drive home, make a call, write 3 hours. -

How can people like Def'd stick around here?
by ithinkisee inhow can people like defd be here and see all the blatant lies by the society and still accept it?.
607 bc and 1914 are based on complete falsehood, and are only borrowed from the adventists and millerites.
the trinity brochure took almost all of their sources out of context.

within the org it's impossible to talk about real issues. that's why people come to boards like this.
defd can't talk openly in the congregation. he's got things to chew on but is not allowed to express them. he is allowed though here. and one day he'll be looking back and hope he could delete all his old posts. or he choses a new user name and writes a new introduction post. -

that's normal on the way out. first you feel the need to be apolegetic about the org, but that is already the first step to freedom. just wait and see.

does "randomness" exist?
by googlemagoogle inthis is maybe largely parallel to the "free will" debate.
or if there is such thing like "chance".
many computer languages have a math function "random()".

You'd've got no replies at all.
;-)
not sure what god has to do with it.
just an analogy. like the "god of gaps". if we don't know the reason it's either "randomness" or "hidden variables". and both can't be proven i guess. -

definition of "random"... hmm. something without a cause? or something impossible to forecast? but if we don't see a cause, or if we are not able to preview something, maybe we only don't have the means (yet). is "randomness" just another "god"? or is the "hidden variable" another "god"?

yes, i am very much into the "cause/effect" thinking. however i'm a bit confused now about quantum physics and the chaos theory. there's also the "hidden variable" theory that i am atracted to a lot, but i fear that would put me into the same corner as a god-believer.
i've made the mistake to start a thread that i have not researched enough... lol.
keep the comments comming though. i love to get more insight. -

oh. seems like i should have read the different definitions for "randomness" first. i'll be back.
[edit] that's right. i should have some vacation from all my programming work and do my homework instead of playing the philosopher. quantum physics... gotta think about that.
