a father killing his son only because he can't forgive his other children the evil act of eating a fruit...
a loving father (and that's what the bible claims god to be) would first of all not be angry about his children trying to be like him. and if they would do something really bad, he'd probably forgive them without killing another child, don't you think?
or does this all make sense?

Are ALL scriptures inspired by GOD?
by plmkrzy inin mho, no.
i am guessing that everything in the bible is based on "a human need" im only guessing.
if we could figure out how to blot out all the insignificant crap garbage (i believe a lot was written/added that wasnt supposed to be: do not go beyond what is written.

Why have you rejected all forms of faith?
by AlmostAtheist init seems that when a person leaves jw's, there's just no telling where he'll end up spiritually.
christian, jew, pagan, jamesthomasism -- i dare say every faith is represented among us.. but there are those that reject faith altogether.
they are often accused of letting the watchtower steal god from them, or throwing the baby out with the bath.. are you one those that rejected faith altogether after your exit?

such as faith, love, God, respect, humility, pride, etc.
do you suggest "god" is an emotion? i could accept that... -

another interesting point: just a few verses before "all scripture is inspired..." you can read about "jannes and jambres".
we all know jannes and jambres from the drama casettes... but go and search those names in the OT.
well, save your time, you won't find them. because "jannes and jambres" are figures from extra-canonical sources. inspired? -

how do you know if a book is inspired?
was every single word inspired? what about the translators?
how does inspiration work?
were the compilators of the LXX inspired?
were the masoretes inspired?
was the catholic priest who compiled the first christian canon inspired?
was luther inspired?
is the aethiopic orthodox canon more inspired than the catholic canon?
is the protestant canon inspired? or is the syriac canon?
when source words have different semantics, which translation was most inspired?
if not everything is inspired, where's the list of inspired verses?
why does paul explicitly state that he's writing his own thoughts, not the "lord's"?
do your research on how the canon was made and on how many other non-canonical christian and jewish texts exist. check out earlychristianwritings.com and earlyjewishwritings.com
you'll also be surprised about the authors. there's virtually no authentic book in the bible. authentic as in author = claimed authority. -

Faith in God is likewise based on experiences. These experiences are subjective. It is entirely possible for someone to believe in something they have never had any experience with.
it is possible to believe in something i haven't experienced. but it's not intelligent. because there are many contradicting faiths of subjective experience.
one experienced jesus, one mary, one allah, one his dead grandfather, one the evil flu-causing spirit of the amazon balsa-tree. one experienced UFOs or even aliens. one the poltergeist.
if you had one of these experiences, well, build your faith on it or go to the psychologist, depending on what impact it had on you. but what's the point in believing something you have not experienced and have no proof for it at all? -

what do you think about.................................
by defd inbeards!
in my congregation it is frowned apon.
a male can have one but he wouldnt get any privilidges and would probably be labeled the black sheep.

one thing they told me (when growing a beard and also when having my hair almost as long as the JW-publications-jesus - ie, one centimeter longer than the JW-publications-JW) was, i should cut/shave because i could "stumble" the others.
i responded that if someone would be stumbled by a beard (what the heck?) they'd be better off talking with that very person, as there seems to be a problem with their faith. -

mustaches were ok after some brothers made their stance in the eighties. i was the first in my congregation to grow a goatie when i was just like 16 years old. the elders always told me i should shave, because "the girls prefer it". however some girls told me exactly the opposite so i didn't care...
later i grew a full beard and after many debates with the elders, other brothers in my cong also grew beards. now it's completely ok to give talks with a beard or unshaved.
in the german speaking area there are almost more young guys with beards now than without. only very strict congregations frown upon that. and the stupid rules for conventions still exist. -

pain also is subjective. you can't prove that something hurts, you can only prove that nerves are sending signals to the brain.
love in this sense is also subjective, but it can indeed be tested (to some extent). how many people on this world have ever said "show me that you really love me"... what then?
faith also is subjective in this sense, but also can be tested... like the JW's faith was tested in the concentration camps.
but what does that prove? that you have faith. or love. or pain. so what? i don't know anyone who denies the existance of "faith". -

all the answers
by googlemagoogle inwe all know those "experiences" of someone becoming a jw because "the jws answered all my questions".
indeed, jws got loads of answers and to many people an answer is better than no answer.
interestingly they can also easily link contradicting situations to the same reason.

we all know those "experiences" of someone becoming a JW because "the JWs answered all my questions". indeed, JWs got loads of answers and to many people an answer is better than no answer. interestingly they can also easily link contradicting situations to the same reason.
one example -
situation 1: a congregation has lots of studies, numbers increase, everything works perfectly.
jw comment: jehovah is blessing his loyal witnesses. we can see how the harvesting work is on it's peak. this definately is a sign of the last days.
situation 2: a congregation is falling apart. huge scandals happen amongst the brothers. lot's of arguments, problems and wrongdoing is going on.
jw comment: now satan's spirit is even entering jehovah's people. he knows his time is short. this definately is a sign of the last days.
two completely contradicting situations, both are linked to signs of the last days (using such "answers" just about anything can be a sign...)
another example -
situation 1: a new war with high media-coverage starts. there are reports of natural disasters and famines.
jw comment: those are signs that prove we are living in the last days.
situation 2: the media covers international approaches for stability and peace. ordinary stuff is going on, no outrageous events happen.
jw comment: as foretold in the bible, whenever they say "peace and security", sudden destruction will come over them. this definately is a sign of the last days.
add your own examples.
