  so in your eyes, a omnipotent good god - who through his omnipotence can prevent anything bad - just watches a mentally ill mother cutting off her babie's arms, only thinking "sad, but true", because his definition of good does not include helping the baby? what's so hard to understand there?

  no, i have proven that a omnipotent, good god does not exist. there still is the possibility that a omnipotent, bad god exists, or a not so mighty, but good god exists. sort of "baal on the throne". but what would a prayer help then, anyway?
  
  now you could argue about the definition of "good". but if cutting off a babie's arms is good or bad, or something in between, to not sound black-and-white-ish, you can argue with someone else, not me.

  how i make sense of the world's anguish? it's right in front of your nose, but you cannot see it...
  
  animals kill. they kill other animals, they kill their like, they kill their mates, they even kill their offspring. that's the way nature is. animals also love, have friends, are sad when someone dies, they have depressions and social conflicts.
  
  humans are better animals. better, because they can define ethics, they can improve, they can teach it to others. it's work in progress. what was accepted yesterday may not be accepted tomorrow. think of human sacrifices. think of slavery. think of women's rights. religion aint part of that progress - it makes it slower.
  
  good people do good things, bad people do bad things, but religion makes good people do bad things.

  ok, i forgot the definition of "God". i'm talking about loving elohim/adonai/yehwoh from hebrew/christian mythology.
  
  baal in the restroom would be perfectly ok... but that wouldn't make him omnipotent, neither perfectly good. i'd actually prefer such a god, or better even, a polytheist pantheon. makes much more sense. but i'm not sure if i'd pray to them.

  HELP!! Trying to find right religion brough up as JW

  i was raised as an on again off again (when convenient for flighty mom) jw.

  i have recently decided due to the birth of a daughter that it was time to get it together and decide what to do with myself spiritually as she was going to church with her baptisit dad and i felt awful.

  so, i've been using the reasoning book and reading the bible and trying to decide what's right.. spent hours looking at christmas online....saw it was traced to pagan celebrations and decided not to do it.

  go rastafari. smoking pot is a religious ritual there... and they didn't take part in WW2 either, they are known for love, peace and harmony, so i guess those are the disciples jesus rambled bout.
  
  or go humanist. the only "religion" that has a future.
