i think a lot of people - especially JWs - would have to reconsider their faith and most probably lose it. because all their belief-system is centered around one god, one creation, one first human couple, one plan... not much space for aliens there.
then there would be those who'd say "thei're demons! they are just testing our faith". those folks would never change their mind anyway.
then there would be the evangelists who would be the first at the UFO and tell our visitors they'd be saved too! would be a problem though if their bodies are water-intolerant.
then of course there would be the new old myths. like the pyramids have been built by alien space invaders and god was actually an UFO and jesus lives in the pleyades.
depending on where the UFO lands first some might even pray to the aliens.
if there's extraterrestrian life and they have plans to visit us i sure hope they wouldn't land in bible-land.

Once life is discovered outside outside the realm of earth...
by undercover inhow will it affect you?.
aa's thread on scientist's "creating" life got me to thinking about how people would react if life was discovered on other planets or solar systems.
the movie "contact" explored that some along with how faith and science combat but yet complement each other.. would life on other planets pretty much destroy much of earth's religious myths?

Police caution woman for breastfeeding in public!
by nicolaou ini just watched the local bbc news and there was a story about a woman who'd fed her baby while sitting on a public bench.
she finished and was on her way when a police car drew up beside her and asked her to stop.
there had been a complaint.

I don't see any problem with breastfeeding in public as long as the mother is being reasonably discreet - which most do have the sense to be - to avoid potential embarrassment to others.
what embarrassment? -

The Bible is not always inerrant or god inspired but that doesn't mean that part of it or even most of it is not god inspired.
which part is? and how do you detect those parts? -

Where are all the people who failed the BIG TEST...?
by upside/down inisn't it odd that all the crucial contests in the bible between good and evil....involved some human "keeping integrity"?
we know for example what job did... .
were there any guys like job that flat out failed?

let's just believe in the JW/christian story for a moment:
if satan convinced a third of all angels to follow him, he must have either some very strong arguments and have a good chance to win a war against god or god doesn't have much to offer for his angels, thus they have nothing to lose and just want to enjoy themselves for a while.
in a democratic environment the majority wins. so if most people follow satan and not god, satan won. but god aint a good loser, so he want's to destroy everyone, just as a good dictator does.
i've already asked that question to several JWs when i started my spiritual journey: either the devil must be dumb as bread or a masochist because he knows god will kill him - or he's stronger than god and he's got a good chance winning the war. -

Tactics to sway my family from the JW organization

seems like the WTS doesn't have a huge influence on your family anyway... i would just live with it.

ok i think i finally have made a decision
by Cordelia insoooooo any of you thats been following my threads thanks (and poor u) i have changed my mind so many times.
i have finally decided that i must stop trying to get reinstated, basically i got dfed 9 months ago had a boyfriend i felt i loved, was married tho still to my hubby who is only just starting to divorce me, (hes waited coz he keeps saying we could try again for the sake of our daughter but he would expect me to be completly in the 'truth') i hid the bf from my family coz they were so heartbroke and i decided to please them i would get reinstated and then fade, but as time went on i realised that wasnt an option as with a family like mine it would be so hard to do, plus there was the bf still hidden poor guy, anyway we spilt up several times, i was a complete physco i kept blaming him for everything,.
anyway last month i put my letter of reinstatement in and sat there scared stiff that they would reinstate me (as that would defo mean the end of the bf) they didnt reinstate me, and i blamed the bf and we spilt for good;.

will the earth be destroyed.
by ajie ini am a present studying the book what does the bible really teach, and am unable to counter the bit where they say the new earth is people and not the literal earth, ive pointed out scriptures that say it will be burned up e.c.t.but the guy relates it to noahs day when the earth was not literal earth that was destroyed but the wicked people,he says this is the same with the new world to come,it is the rightouse people, at the moment we agree to disagree but does anyone know a good way to counter this argument.though doing a goggle search on the subject it seems to me that christians have all sorts of veiws on the subject which only leaves me more confused.
-

christians have all different views on any subject... that's why there are so many christian groups.
and the earth will probably burn somewhen in the future when the sun will suck it in. but not in our lifetime...
