"Captives of a Concept"
by Cameron inthere are as many different ways of writing a book about jehovah's witnesses and their watchtower society as there are those who write them.
captives of a concept is just one of those different ways.
it is not the greatest book that has ever bewn written about jehovah's witnesses or their watchtower society.

no meetings this week
by missy04 ini feel kind of silly posting next to you guys who were in the organization for much longer, like i know what i'm talking about or something, lol, i don't.. but i think it's really sad..all of these people, mostly really good people, who spend their whole lives or at least alot of it trying to do things..field service, studying, giving talks, giving up good jobs, ect.
for this religion.
i am really sad that i can't just save 'em from it.. i haven't been to any meetings this week and i think i finally might have the guts to tell them i'm done.. wow, it must have been realllllyyyy hard for all those who have family in the org.

so missy what made you feel that you needed to find a friend? does your family live near you? your profile says that you are 18. it seems to me that at that age you should be able to find friends in school and or at work. do you feel lonely? do you not get long with people your own age? i'm just trying to get the picture here.

"Captives of a Concept" --book online
by bebu inon another thread, mj and garybuss recommended a rather new book to me, which, it turns out, is available online as a download as well as a paperback that can be shipped.
i think it is an excellent resource, and believe it could be recommended to many people, jw or ex jw, because it uses wt material and doctrines as its criteria for discerning if the wt really does have all the authority they claim.
(if you are a jw, do you know what proof you supposedly rely on that the wt is the faithful and discreet slave?

currently i am reading The Varieties of Religious Experience by William James. It's kind of a slow read but there have been some good points broought out about the psychology behind religion in general.
i just ordered Captives of a Concept by Don Cameron and i can't wait to get it in!!
