todays daily text refers to a new?

explanation for doorkeepers that "death will be no more" would only refer to an earthly blessing, because it would be logically according to the text that in heaven no one ever died or death had never been there.

seems like wishful argument for the earthly paradise.. dont forget the 144000 members of the heavenly class that will receive heavenly blessing after death and used for decades rev.

If you know a person is suffering dementia and says inflammatory things, how is it respectful of them or to viewers to put them on the public airwaves? I'm more of the opinion Tavis is listening out of more than pity or respect, but I could be wrong.

Dick Gregory was a brilliant man and in some way we've both seen this sort of thing happen to others such as JW's who are intelligent and knowledgeable but who are driven into fantasy and magic-thinking by religious mania.

it would be about 5 feet x 4 feet.

on the side of the chart, vertically listed, were the months of the year.

Yes. That would have been about 1959 when 1st laid eyes upon it.
I scrutinized it with outsider's eyes and said to myself, "Statistical fetish!"

Turns out, I was partially right. The other part was "propaganda tool."

Just Refused Mags from Rich Customer

oh dear.

i have a customer - dave - who gives me frequent and profitable work sometimes.

i'm retired but am happy to do a little bit part-time.. this morning i called to rectify some work he'd had done by a not-so expert "tradesman".

I stopped for a snack at the local QT (Quik Trip) store and saw a Watchtower lying on the ground next to the trashcan. I reached down to pick it up and realized this is the 1st time in years I've held one in my hands.

First impression?

The Watchtower is NOT the Watchtower of my era (50's --79).

This new incarnation is nothing more nor less than a garish-looking tract!

It was offensive to my eyes. I was once stopped in the L.A. Airport back when Hare Krishna ran rampantly about and a devotee with a 4ft. long tonsure placed a book in my hands begging for a donation. The colors and artwork style of that Krishna book are identical to the Watchtower I held in my hand.

I thought to myself: "Why even bother with these, oh mighty G.B.?"

The disturbing part is not that the man fully believes so much racially driven, prejudicial poppycock--it disturbing because there are a large number of media and celebrity people who listen and believe as well.
PRINCE watched one of Dick Gregory's "Truth" videos and started talking about Chemtrails and Illuminati as a direct result.
In this particular community of True Believers, there is no rational, skeptical, logical connection admitted EXCEPT the bizarre!
I worry about people who become parents and pass along this style of thinking and speaking because neither they nor their children will be able to hold a conversation about the difference between subjective assertions and actual testable data.

Having once been in a religious cult, I am retro-ashamed that I was just like Dick Gregory spouting off nonsense just because an Organization bent on teaching weird tales from an ancient book had convinced me of their AUTHORITY and gravitas.

Dick Gregory has lots of gravitas in the Black Community from what I can piece together.
Tavis Smiley is no idiot, but he has interviewed Dick Gregory and listened like a child to everything the man said.

Beliefs About What Caused the Universe

the universe can be observed to be expanding.. an expanding universe must have had a beginning.

whatever begins to exist had a cause.

THOUGHT EXPERIMENT:

Imagine 2 Universes.

The 1st contains absolutely NOTHING at all. Never and always nothing.

The 2nd contains something and is, in fact, THIS universe you and I exist inside.

In the 1st Universe consisting of nothing, who would ask the question, "Why is there nothing rather than something?"

In the 2nd Universe consisting of something, who would ask the same question?

We are forced to conclude, only in the 2nd universe could anyone exist to ask the question about BOTH.

What is a Universe but a set or category inclusive of "ALL"?

(ALL of something vs. ALL of nothing.)

Perry tells us that God exists OUTSIDE of the universe and the spacetime continuum.
If a Universe is ALL there is, how can anybody or anything exist outside?

The answer is simple. Perry is forced to destroy the meaning of Universe so he can win by

inserting God.
It's like adding additional time to the countdown clock when your team is tied.
AD HOC Fallacy allows you to make up on the spot whatever you need to win!

We pause. . .

In a Universe in which nothing exists, God is inserted from "outside" of everything (which doesn't exist.)
God proceeds to create something out of-----WAIT! Out of what?

EX NIHILO (Out of Nothing)

Pulling a cosmic rabbit out of a non-existing hat is pure magic.

To be consistent, we either have to allow God to already exist WITHOUT Himself have a "cause", or

we have to allow the Universe of Something to exist without having a Creator.

Which is the simplest answer?
1. An already existing something without an even more complex living Being causing it from nothing?

2. A non-existing nothing with an "outside" existing Supreme Being ready to step in and put a created something into that "nothing"?

1. BEFORE the Universe, this "GOD" wasn't a creator because nothing had been created.

2. BEFORE the Universe, this "GOD" was alone, therefore, He wasn't even SUPREME because you have to ask, "Superior to what or who?"

3. BEFORE the Universe, this "GOD" had no thoughts about anything because there was no anything.
A mind without thoughts of something isn't really conscious.
An unconscious God isn't much of a God at all.

The writers of these articles are quite comfortable with their moral superiority and summary powers

of judgment. It chills the blood how sanguine they've become over the years, holding the power of life and death, as they do, by pronouncing fate behind the door in the Kingdom Hall library.

Star Chamber philosophy is everywhere in this Organization.

Why? Is it because there is little love, forgiveness or tolerance among JW's? Perhaps there are too many elders and rank and file members like this fellow named Diotrephes.

We read:

3 John 9,10

"I wrote something to the congregation, but Diotrephes, who likes to have the first place among them, does not receive anything from us with respect. That is why, if I come, I will call to remembrance his works which he goes on doing, chattering about us with wicked words. Also, not being content with these things, neither does he himself receive the brothers with respect, and those who are wanting to receive them he tries to hinder and to throw out of the congregation."

Elders who practice "pure hate" really like to throw people out of the congregation and label them with wicked words. Where do these elders get such ideas and encouragement?

Observe the following examples.

The October 1952 issue of Watchtower sets the stage for introducing a practice called:Disfellowshipping.
How?
By encouraging readers to consider the specific instance of HATERS of God. The thrust of the paragraph is a call to action on the part of JW members in good standing to DO something.
A binary choice is presented: What you CAN and what you CANNOT do with so-called "haters of God".

Read:

"Haters of God and his people are to be hated, but this does not mean that we will take any opportunity of bringing physical hurt to them in a spirit of malice or spite, for both malice and spite belong to the Devil, whereas pure hatred does not. We must hate in the truest sense, which is to regard with extreme and active aversion, to consider as loathsome, odious, filthy, to detest. Surely any haters of God are not fit to live on his beautiful earth." (The Watchtower, 10/1 1952, p. 599)

Let us UNPACK all the little modules forced together in this set-up.

JW's are being assured it is OKAY to HATE and that it advisable to do so.

A peculiar binary choice of "hate" is explained.

1.Hate that stems from malice and spite (attributed to the Devil). (So-called:BAD hate.)

2.PURE hate which is justifiable because it is directed toward DESERVING souls who themselves hate God! (So-called:GOOD hate.)

Now that you are advised to hate (the right way) all you need is to have it pointed out WHO DESERVES such "pure hate".

The answer comes roaring like a freight train in the next month's Watchtower!

"We are not living today among theocratic nations where such members of our fleshly family relationship could be exterminated for apostasy from God and his theocratic organization, as was possible and was ordered in the nation of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai and in the land of Palestine. . . . Being limited by the laws of the worldly nation in which we live and also by the laws of God through Jesus Christ, we can take action against apostates only to a certain extent, that is, consistent with both sets of laws. The law of the land and God’s law through Christ forbid us to kill apostates, even though they be members of our own flesh-and-blood family relationship." (The Watchtower, 11/15 1952, p. 703)

UNPACK all that step by step and watch how the bomb was constructed. Okay?

The first sentence is densely hitched together in an awkward assembly of assertions.

1."We are not living today among theocratic nations where such members of our fleshly family relationship could be exterminated for apostasy from God and his theocratic organization,"

The GB wants you to consider how lucky EX-JW's are they can't be murdered legally by summary execution in today's world of secular law and courts.

Interestingly, the Governing Body seems to envy Muslim sharia law with its "honor killings"! However, they seek "cover" by saying it was the way it was in ancient Israel. Who can argue with that? Hmm?

2. Being limited by the laws of the worldly nation in which we live and also by the laws of God through Jesus Christ, we can take action against apostates only to a certain extent, that is, consistent with both sets of laws. NOTE:

What phrase GRANTS PERMISSION to the READER? This one: "...we can take action against apostates..."

But, what is the "certain extent" which is consistent with both theocratic and secular law???

Like Diotrephes, they like to throw people out of the congregation!

What do you suppose Jesus Christ would have to say about this policy and these eager Diotrephes following the GB's instructions?

What we will see in the coming battle for the Presidency is nothing less than a mini-revolution and a great deal of pus and blood oozing from the body politic. I really don't won't to hear about what is BAD about either of them. I want to hear ideas and strategies. I won't vote for either of them because I don't want to be responsibile for what happens when one of them gets elected.

Neither of these people should be running anything affecting the lives of millions of folks in this country or, by extension, around the planet.

I've been alive 69 years and I've seen Presidents come and go. I've heard the promises of candidates and the attacks of their enemies. I was born during Harry Truman's Presidency and saw Dwight Eisenhower at the convention against Adlai Stevenson.
I watched the debate between Nixon and Kennedy and heard Johnson refuse to run for another term. I heard the "end of the world" predictions about Barry Goldwater and what was probably the very first smear campaign of fear and character assassination.

Everybody has really nasty things to say about both Trump and Clinton. The level of nastiness is really unhealthy and unfortunate. But there are deep, profound problems with our political system and a day of reckoning is about to be had.

Whichever way it goes--it won't be a good outcome, but the ship of state will sail on, barnacles and all.
This isn't the end of the world. Greece's crisis was supposed to be that. It wasn't.
Whether the U.K. will remain in the European Union or whether North Korea will build a long range missle, or whether Vlad Putin will shoot down a U.S. aircraft---the end of the world is a long, long way off.

This is nothing compared to the E.L.E. of the day of the dinosaur:)
