I was baptized into the JW religion at 14. I came to regret it when I realized what a cold, judgmental and un-Christlike organization I was a part of. Icame to regret it even more when, years after leaving, I found out that I was not even baptized in the manner that Jesus commanded but, instead, into an organization. So, I was rebaptized at age 27 at a church that baptizes people in the way that Jesus commanded..."in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit".

What age were you baptised? Do you regret it?
by doodle-v ini would have gotten baptised at the first "special assembly day" but i got sick just a few days before.
so i got baptised at the d.c.that same year instead.
i regret it, but at the time i thought i was doing the right thing, i sincerely believed i was dedicating my life to serving god.

My mom's first date was with my dad...on an evening during a Circuit Assembly. Dad borrowed a friend's car that had a kick-butt engine under the hood and he gunned it by accident and spilled soda right into his lap. My mom still laughs about it when she tells the story.
As I recall, her first kiss was with my dad, too. I think they got a talking-to at some time during their three month courtship about about "heavy petting" or maybe they confessed it and then got talked to. Anyway, that's what I've been told...lol

What's the last good fantasy or scifi book that you could'nt put down?
by Leander inso what's the last fantasy/scifi book that you read that was just so good you could'nt put it down until you were done reading it?
i need a few recommendations, i'm in the mood for a good book.. for me the last really good scifi book was orson scott card's "ender's game".
for a long time i avoided this book because i thought it was aimed at a younger audience, but after hearing so many people praise it i finally took a chance on it.

Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series and Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Marvellous writing in both. Only drawbacks are that Wheel of Time series has some draggy parts in the last couple of books (actually, I don't think the series is even finished yet.) and I thought the ending of The Dark Tower could have been better. Other than that, I really enjoyed both and had a hard time putting the books down, once I started reading them.

Golf,
I totally agree....too many people underestimate what a great game golf is. I am eagerly awaiting my next go at it! Thanks for the PM. I will check that site out.
Crumpet,
Another lady who enjoys golf. Cool!Don't get discouraged about your game--just have fun! I do not even intend to keep score for a good while, since I think that would reduce my enjoyment right now.
I have to tell you guys how I even ended up agreeing to go golfing, in the first place. I made a deal with hubby that if he would learn to play videogames then I would learn to golf. For two years, he was seriously ill and could not get out golfing....so, now that he is better and the weather is warmer, I had to make good on my end of the deal. I never thought I would enjoy it so much! So, good deal all the way around....Oh yeah, and hubby discovered that he really digs playing videogames, too!
Thanks for all of the replies, everybody.

Evil Force,
Yeah, isn't awful how we were always shamed about taking time to do anything nice or enjoyable for ourselves? Even now, twelve years after leaving the JW religion, I sometimes find myself feeling a little guilty for taking time for me or for doing something to take care of myself. It doesn't happen all of the time ( like it used to), just sometimes. Talk about some strong, unhealthy messages!!!

What were your reasons for not liking the ministry school?
by LongHairGal ini dropped out years ago because i couldn't stand getting together with sisters i didn't like to do a talk.
i hated it with a passion!!
i do realize that you did learn but what i resented was that the sisters were inflicted on each other in a way that i don't think the brothers were.

A couple of things I did not like about the Theocratic Ministry School:
First (it's already been mentioned), I did not like the sexist way it was set up. I knew I could do a lots better job than many of the men who got to speak from the podium.
Second, I did so well in the TMS that the elders were always asking me to do impromptu talks because of no-shows. So, for quite a while, this meant I was giving a talk just about every week. Then, this bled into the Service Meeting, as well. Ill-prepared elders would ask me at the last minute to do the demonstrations. After a while, I felt like people were taking advantage of me....and I knew that if I refused a request re: a meeting part, my parents would give me a lot of grief over it.
However, I did like public peaking then and I still do and I must admit that the TMS helped me with public speaking

I went golfing for the first time, today. I had a great time! The golf course was beautiful, the day was cool and breezy but sunny. I went with my husband and a couple from our church. My husband and Jessie (the other guy of our group) have both been playing golf for years and Janie (the other gal) has been playing off and on for a couple of years, I believe.
I think I had such a good time because none of them were particularly competitive or overly serious about the game. We were all pretty much out there to enjoy the day and have fun. Also, it helped that they all seemed genuinely surprised at how well I was doing my first time out (actually, I was surprised too!). Anyway, I had a terrific time and I am looking forward to doing it again soon. And, you know what? I think this is one of the positive things I'd never have experienced if I'd stayed a JW.

Yoga
by CeriseRose inokay i got back from the doctor yesterday, and in the past 11 months, without doing anything in particular for diet and exercise, i've lost 12 pounds.
12 pounds!
i've been overweight my whole life and being able to "live" while losing is huge.. i joined curves and will be doing that 3-4 times per week.

I don't know lots about yoga--however, I just started to include some yoga in my exercise schedule. I figured it would help me to increase flexibility and relax after bicycling. I recently got two videotapes of yoga for beginners. They are made by a company called Gaiam. One of the tapes is a 75 minute tape with basic moves of hatha yoga. I have found it to be very relaxing and helpful with increasing flexibility. The other videotape is a 35 minute tape of yoga targeting abs. I feel it is a great (but not strenuous) workout.

Were you allowed to play sports?
by love11 ini was never allowed to play sports, because it would be too much association with worldly people.
no skating, dance class, racquet ball, softball, nothing.
in my kingdom hall, only the "spiritually weak" played sports.

I was not allowed to do ANY extracurricular activities in high school. It really hurt because there were a few things I would have so enjoyed participating in. I was pressured by the drama teacher to enroll in advanced drama because she thought I had some acting talent. A gym teacher who also coached wrestling and weightlifting asked me to join the weightlifting team and my French and Spanish teachers really wanted me to be in foreign language club.
My two brothers and I have talked about this very thing (they are out now, too) and we all agree that not being able to participate in any of the extracurricular things significantly hurt our self-esteem. Luckily, we all can pursue our interests and hobbies now that we are no longer slaving away for the WBTS.
