Medical emergency, while at work
by MsMcDucket inmy husband called me at work to tell me that he was in extreme pain (he is handicapped.).
i was the charge nurse at a medical facility and the only rn on duty, so i couldn't leave.
i was unable to reach my oldest daughter, so i called the twins (the ones that are shunning me).

One of the issues I've always had with the shunning is the outright rudeness in the name of religion.
Maybe time for you or your husband (whomever has the best "relationship") to have a talk with the "children" about respect.

Persephone will soon return!

I've always like the myth and love story of Persephone and Hades since the greek and roman mythology was briefly taught in school. It seems appropriate to bring it up today, as from here on the days will be getting longer, and hope of spring and rebirth is only around the corner.

Jeez JH, why wait? You have the power to move to a warmer climate if you so choose. You are in a good possiton to move to NZ, Auz, or any of the brittish commonwealth WARM countries!
We're moving to Hawaii in 3-1/2 years. Just ain't happening fast enough for me.

It's Winter Solstice! Soon Persephone will return from the underworld, where she went in September to be with her lover Hades. As she approaches, the days will begin to get longer; the light will return to the earth.
Persephone is the goddess of the underworld in Greek mythology. She is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, goddess of the harvest. Persephone was such a beautiful young woman that everyone loved her, even Hades wanted her for himself. One day, when she was collecting flowers on the plain of Enna, the earth suddenly opened and Hades rose up from the gap and abducted her. None but Zeus, and the all-seeing sun, Helios, had noticed it.
Broken-hearted, Demeter wandered the earth, looking for her daughter until Helios revealed what had happened. Demeter was so angry that she withdrew herself in loneliness, and the earth ceased to be fertile. Knowing this could not continue much longer, Zeus sent Hermes down to Hades to make him release Persephone. Hades grudgingly agreed, but before she went back he gave Persephone a pomegranate (or the seeds of a pomegranate, according to some sources). When she later ate of it, it bound her to underworld forever and she had to stay there one-third of the year. The other months she stayed with her mother. When Persephone was in Hades, Demeter refused to let anything grow and winter began. This myth is a symbol of the budding and dying of nature. In the Eleusinian mysteries, this happening was celebrated in honor of Demeter and Persephone, who was known in this cult as Kore.

I love autum and fall. I HATE winter! I have S.A.D.S. (winter depression) and with FMS I hurt with the cold rain. 40 degrees and drizzle is not fun for me. This winter is a little worse as we haven't planned a warm sunshine break.
The good news with it being officially Winter, is that they days will now get LONGER! Yay! It gets dark here at 4:15 and light around 8am. Double ugh. Hurry up Spring - don't be late!

Brand New Blood Card
by PoppyR inhubby has just come back from the service meeting where they have been handed out brand new style blood cards, now called 'advance decision to refuse specified medical treatment' .
it's quite a bit different.
and has the line on it about giving permission to the hospital liason committee to see your notes and medical records.. very scary stuff i think, and i certainly wont be filling one in.. i'm really short of time tonight, but will scan it in, along with the notes that go with it and try and post it some time over the next day or so if someone else doesn't beat me to it!.
