To My Generation: Jehovah's Witnesses of the Vietnam War Era
by Hold Me-Thrill Me into my generation: jehovah's witnesses of the vietnam war era .
if you were a young brother in the late 60's you then remember the burden of the draft and the prospect of going to jail for refusing on religious grounds to be called up.
in those days we were taught that to do community service was conscientiously the same as joining the military and so we were told to refuse such exemptions.

We lived through it and got married really young b/c of it. I got pg. and that was his ticket to a deferment . My friends - many went to prison and some were elders kids and pioneered and got out of it. Or College in some cases. It was a scary time for all of us, esp. those who chose to marry as teenagers and have a child. My kids are nearly as old as I am now. it was a mistake, we should have figured out another way- hell even Canada was a better option than becoming a parent long before we should have. My father served 2 prison terms b/c of it. Lots of nationalism down here in Bible Belt and hatred of jws or anyone who did not serve their country. Left a scar on my fathers life that time did not erase. Ruined his life. I will never forgive the wts for what they did to our family. Rotten bastards set up there in Bethel while the brothers who did not have elders as fathers or were too poor to pioneer had to go to prison. Bastards. -

17 year old son is blaming me for ruining his life from the Cult. He's complaining "I could have been a high school sports star!"
by PhilsWager2 inyou know about my not-so-ugly divorce and how me and my wife found out the religion is false.
she still attends while my 17 year old has been raging on me about all the wasted time he suffered from by being in this religion.
he think's his life is ruined, very angry we did not learn this was a cult earlier(he was 14 when he stopped attending after reading the revelation book, he said "in all time and history, how could a trumpet blown in revelation have anything to do with a jw bible student convention statement"?.

My very adult children still say this stuff to me, but I just tell them there was an excellent chance they would have been raised in some religion- since we live in the Bible Belt. It could have been Church of Christ or Pentecostals or Baptists- the most common religions around here. They would have been mad no matter what. They hate religion and have not raised their children with any religious beliefs or spirituality and surprisingly their kids regret this. Parents are always going to make mistakes, you just do the best you can.
