Studies over....................sob............they dont want me...
by holly instraight away told im not ready for baptism, not with the amount and depth of questions, that ive been warned about these sites and that apostates will do anything to knock jws.
proving its the true religion bec the bible says it will happen (shows me scriptures).
also told it doesnt happen with any other religious group - usually people just quietly leave and make no fuss - further proof that ths is the true religion.. i asked about all the dates where predictions were made, eg 1914, 1975. was told there were some articles loosly talking the 'possibility' of something happening, but the wt never said it definitely would - how could it, these are just ordinary men, not profits.

Will they ever be mainstream?
by Justin insome religions which have been on the fringe of society are eventually accepted into the mainstream because they have an aspect which is socially acceptable or beneficial to society.
for example, the seventh day adventists have hospitals and the mormons have the tabernacle choir.
but the jws seem to have nothing with which to appeal to the larger culture.

Gday Justin,
You mention the SDAs well I have an artical you may be interested in reading called The Mainstreaming of Adventism'. This also may one day be the history of the WT.
The artical is by Fritz Guy and he writes, ' A funny thing has happened to us Adventists on the way to the Second Advent; we've become part of the cultural mainstream.'

72% Voter Turnout in Iraq
by Elsewhere inthe voter turnout for the 2004 us presidential election was 60.7% (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/a10492-2005jan14.html).
despite being threatened by terrorists, iraq's voter turnout was much greater than the last us voter turnout!
i'd say it was a far greater success than expected!

In the election of 2002 there was 100% turnout and Saddam got 100% of the vote now how impressive is that?

Just a comment about that 'one ' or 'ones' talk. Ever heard the queen talk well she uses those terms I just thought they may be teaching the "Queens english at the KH now.

Conscientious objection was it a factor in attracting you to the JWs
by barry inwell it was with my first wife athough she never joined or was baptised she allways had a soft spot for the witnesses and their stand on war.. i pointed out to her other denominations dont beleive in war who does.
in my own church many take a non combatancy or a concientious objector stand.
some go in as full combat though, but it is a concience issue.

At present in the US military an SDA took a stand and is now in the brig. http://www.spectrummagazine.org/conversationcafe/columns/050112tyner.html

Christian Fundamentalists and Adam and Eve
by glitter inhow do people who believe a "day" of creation is a literal 24-hour day ("because the plants would have died") get around adam and eve not dying the same literal 24-hour day as eating from the tree?
jws say that the "day" didn't equal 24 hours and that adam died within a thousand years and a day=1000 years.... but then you have the plants with no light!
it's almost like it's made up or something!

Would Jesus shun anyone?
by JH ini can't imagine jesus shunning anyone.
on the contrary, he went towards those who needed help the most.
if the jw's followed jesus footsteps, they wouldn't shun.

Jesus went out of his way to assist comfort and encourage those whome others despised. Those who did the despising were the religious people of the day they were good people and they felt ethically compelled to do so.
They were mistaken.
The most offensive sins in Gods sight are pride arrogance and a spirit of condemnation. The religious people in christs time said' this man receives sinners'

Female elders
by glitter inwhen did you first realise the society wouldn't allow women to be an ms or an elder?
i remember being seven or eight and playing dolls with an elder's daughter in her bedroom.
my doll was meeting up with her doll at the convention after not seeing each other for a long time.

Many churches now have even women as pastors or priests. The church I go to has a women elder but they havent seen the light on haveing a women pastor.
