  you can read the artical on the above link.. a short story about nancy a conservative christian who states to the minister she wont be attending his church again because the reasons being she doesn't like the drums.

  also the people are too friendly to each other and to new people visiting conservative churches aren't like that.

  according to 'nancy the truth is important as well as character perfection before jesus comes.. some of you might be amused, i was.

  The Greek Word Parousia! How should it be trasnslated?

  the greek word parousia!

  how should it be translated?.

  i say, that because it can be applied to presence; which the governing body who does have an ax to grind, would jump on; and apply it, as they have to the thirteen occurrences, where it appears in their new world translation bible.. as i said, it can be applied to their teaching that the christ was invisibly present in the year 1914, but according to the information i found, that application is incorrect.

  I would guess everyone would translate as comming before 1850 because only after this time presents was intergrated into the meaning.

  Gday jgnat, I just thought that link captured the feeling of conservative and was ammusing .

  Of course liberals can be those who believe evolution, have women pastors and don't believe the bible is inspired at one extreme but not necessarily. Liberals may be just more open to the community and have a happy vibrant religious community that talks a lot about Jesus and has drums.

  I was told by an ex jw that just before 1975 people were encouraged to go on the dole and preach full time.

  The dole for a single person here is a pittance of about $250 + maybe $100 rent allowance per week but please note that a family of four can get close to $1000 per week with rent assistance and unlike some countries these benefits run for life or until that person gets a job.

  News - Neanderthal DNA 99.5% Like Ours

  just recently, some scientists managed to sequence neanderthal dna.

  while this discovery is not totally explored at this point, the following data are quite solid.. using different techniques, two teams of scientists separately sequenced large chunks of dna extracted from the femur of a 38,000-year-old neanderthal specimen found in a cave [image] 26 years ago in croatia.

  one team sequenced more than one million base pairs and the other 65,000 pairs of the genome.. .

  I saw a documentary about how the neanderthals may have died out. According to one theory tha Neanderthals were more muscular had shorter legs and had no waistline. they lived in forest areas. They hunted with heavy spears and crept up on the animal being hunted. The spear was not thrown but thrust into the animal at close quarters.

  The forests were decreasing during an ice age and open plains were increasing.

  The theory is that modern humans started to inhabit the open plain areas because they were more athletic and were using a light spear which was thrown. Usually an animal runs quite a distance especially when a lighter spear hits its intended targetso even after the hit modern humans may have to run quite a distance to take down there quarry. The Neanderthal was just not athletic enough for this new type of hunting.

  Gday Moshe, We can have high powered rifles here but the requirements are restrictive.

  First you have to do a safety test and you have to have a secure rifle safe bolted to the wall.

  It is then required to apply to join a club or you can get written permission from a land owner. Most land owners are only too happy to rid their propertys of wild pigs, roos, rabbits and deer. Common calibers are 308 winchester, 270, 223 ,22long rifle .

  The government is opening up a lot of crown land to control much of the imported vermon and its not very hard to get a licence to shoot in those areas.

  The regulations are just a pain in the butt

  Their are plenty of target rangers here .

  The YEC [young earth creationists ] are a dying breed they don't usually promote the idear of a 6000 year history of the earth. They promote the creation story all the same and when I was an SDA they used to visit and take the main weekly sermon and they also visited lother churches too.

  The problem with the SDAs is they promote creation and teach evolution in their Universitys so there is quite a bit of distrust between the church and its institutions.

  The JW life is good!

  for some people.

  i think of the old man who has no family and lives in a nursing home, and the only time he gets out is when he's picked up for the meetings.

  he lives solely for that.. or people who love routine and busy-ness, people who need to be led.. george orwell wrote that the party is best able to impose its worldview on those least likely to understand what it is that's being asked of them: orthodoxy is unconsciousness.. i believe a lot of jws swallow the party line and it passes through them unharmed, like a seed pooped out by a bird.
