Australia had in the past many more guns than it does now. When I was a kid we had guns, we liked guns and we didn't even have to have a licence only the money to own one. Farmers would allow.

kids on their properties to shoot the most common weapons were 22 long rifle not a powerful round .

We had a culture that we could hunt but we never even imagined even using a weapon on a human.

This may be the reason that 15 years ago we accepted restrictions on guns after the port arthur massacre.

indonesia is a large nation to the north of australia.

the indonesian armed forces have nearly a million personnel, either as active servicemen or reservists.. australia, with a population of 23 million, and an armed forces of 80,000 (active and reservist), has no choice but to live in co-operation with indonesia, though the relationship is sometimes strained.

Not necessary to be afraid of Indonesia. Indonesia has no military the large number of soldiers they have is to keep peace in their own country.

The Indonesians would have to go to great expense to invade Australia and the north would be a dangerous place to be with nothing to take of military value and our air force pounding them.

Our armed forces have done numerous computer studies to demonstrate different scenarios if an attack occurred also Aussie companies service Indonesian war ships.

I don't think Australia has the slightest concern about security I think we would be more worried about China but then the Australian thinking is that Indonesia is a buffer against China.

So ... Russia and Nato at war? Should we be worried?

it seems unbelievable but turkey (a nato member state) shooting down a russian jet fighter on their syrian border seems to be "meh" news and no one is too bothered about it too much.. the world seems a bit upside down right now.

i don't think a lot of countries really know who the hell they are fighting and who is and isn't on their side in it all and really what is going on.. smaller incidents than this have led to major conflicts in the past but hopefully calm heads will prevail.

china shot down a us spy plane years ago and the world survived and forgot about it so things will move on i'm sure.. i'm guessing the price turkey pays for their gas supply from russia will be going up soon though.. man, that republican primary is sucking all the news attention from the room.

The Russian plane was in Turkish airspace for 17 seconds during that time the Turks claimed they warned the Russians 10 times. Thats 1.7 seconds per warning. The Turks can't even tell a good lie

the wife of my friend (the one i call gayxjw) had ancestors from there.. back in the 19th century a lot of people came from all over the world to look for gold.

among them there were many chinese.

they were often very organised, bringing baby pigs on the ships from china, seeds and seedlings for gardens they planned to start, etc.

In Australia this year we have had 3 terror attacks this year. Since July this year 199 muslims have tried to leave to join Islamic State and there are at least 500 Islamists on a watch list for extremism.

I believe Margo may be well intentioned and part of me hopes she succeeds but I believe most people here are nervous about Islam. The lefty ABC is just disgusting putting out its agenda
