According to the teaching of J.F.Rutherford the Holy Spirit was no longer needed once Jesus Christ 'came to the temple of Jehovah God' in 1918.
By his spirit, the holy spirit, Jehovah God guides or leads his people up to a certain time, and thus he did until the time when "the comforter" was taken away ... in 1918.
Preservation, 1932, pp. 193, 194.
...1918... in that year the Lord Jesus came to the temple of Jehovah God. The holy spirit that had been the guide of God's people, having performed its functions, was taken away... J.F. Rutherford, Salvation, 1939, pp. 216, 217.
In times past the holy spirit was the comforter and helper of God's people, and those brethren supposed to have the spirit of the Lord acted as teachers of the consecrated; but now, since the coming of Christ Jesus to the temple, Jehovah God and his great prophet, Christ Jesus, are the teachers... the faithful ones receive knowledge and understanding from the Word of God revealed to them through the Head of the temple organization.
J.F. Rutherford, Jehovah, 1934, p. 311. See further, The Watchtower, March 15, 1938, p. 89, 37: 1939 Yearbook of Jehovah's Witnesses, Daily Texts and Comments, October 6.
After Rutherford's death in 1942, N. H. Knorr, in the Watchtower of August 15, 1944 on page 252, "However, the holy spirit is not removed or taken away from the remnant." Since that time multiple publications of the Watchtower Society have reemphasize the one "holy spirit".
So that answers the first question, but what about the second question? Why was the Holy Spirit reinstated? If Christ 'came to the temple of Jehovah God" in 1918, which is still the teaching of the Watchtower Society, then what has changed? Was Rutherford wrong about there not being a need for the Holy Spirit after 1918?
If this teaching was wrong, a teaching from one who claims to be directed by God *, what's to say the teachings of today are right? Was God furnishing Rutherford false 'meat in due season'?
* Jehovah has caused greater light to shine upon his Word.... He has given meat to the household through the Head of the house of sons, Jesus.... the Scriptures are not of private interpretation. 1928 Yearbook of the International Bible Students Association, Daily Texts and Comments, Dec. 22.
Since the Lord came to his temple there have been flashes of lightning; that is to say, intermittent illuminations of the Word of God,... these flashes of light do not emanate from any member of the temple class, but from the Lord. It is Jehovah that is sending out his light and his truth,... IBID., May 14 . Emphasis in original. See further, The Watchtower, April 15, 1931, p. 116, 8, 9; Vindication III, 1932, p. 314.
God... furnishes them with meat in due season by revealing the meaning of his prophecies written long ago. The Watchtower, Nov. 15, 1937, p. 349, 47.
... the meat in due season is a proper explanation of the Scriptures. J. F. Rutherford, The Harp of God, 1921, p. 237, 1921, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1927 editions. This comment could not be found in the 1928, 1937 and 1940 editions of this book.

Did Gentile Christians celebrate holidays and stuff? Evidence?
by ithinkisee indoes anyone have some good references i can look up on some specific differences between gentile and jewish christians in the first century?.
the reason i ask is because i get the impression from the scriptures that the gentile christians probably even celebrated worldly holidays and attended pagan festivals still - while the jewish christians did not.
perhaps they even looked and dressed differently.

I'm not sure the first century Christians knew anything more, or had anything more "right" than we do today. I think Paul did leave an "instruction booklet", Romans. Paul talks about the gentiles not knowing the law but through their faith and love they "are a law unto themselves" Romans 2:14 I think the whole point is to love one another and have faith. I can find only two commandments that we, who are not under the law but under grace, need to obey; Love God and love our fellow man as we love ourselves. The bible says that by doing this, the law is fulfilled. To me, the whole point of not being under the law says that we don't need a instruction booklet. The wonderful thing about Gods love and grace is the more you believe you are saved, the more you will act like it. No one needs to tell us right from wrong. It was built in, when man eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We are saved by faith, not works. How would a instruction booklet helf us do the right thing when the right thing needs to come from the heart, not the head. Keep the faith, love one another and love God and know that you ARE saved.....it really is that simple..... Peace

Your not getting my point. According to Rutherford, Jesus is here now and using the angles, whom He is directing, to do the work that the Holy Spirit used to do. According to Rutherford, the angels are the ones giving new light to the WTS. Not the Holy Spirit. All of this can be found on line. www.towerwatch.com/articles_and_stories/ articles/angelic_direction.htm http://www.cftf.com/daniel/daniel/daniel_05.htm I just found my answer while looking up sites for you. http://www.johnankerberg.com/Articles/apologetics/AP0602W2.htm "Some may wonder at the wording of Rutherford that Jesus returned to his "temple" in 1918. He explains this in the 1941 booklet, "Theocracy," page 32: "In 1918 the Lord Jesus came to the temple of Jehovah, that is to say, to the body of consecrated Christians." Since the body of Christ was identified by Rutherford as this "temple of the holy spirit" that meant that the holy spirit was removed from the body of Christ! A shocking development! Rutherford removed himself shortly thereafter by dying, and Nathan Knorr took over the Presidency in 1942. He quickly did away with Rutherford’s strange teachings by saying in the Watchtower of August 15, 1944 on page 252, "However, the holy spirit is not removed or taken away from the remnant." So Rutherford, from 1930 until he died, taught that the Holy Spirit was taken away in 1918 and his successor reinstated the Holy Spirit in 1942. Thanks....

Narkissos, one of the books was written in 1932, (perservation) Rutherford states that the Holy Spirit was "taken away" in 1918 when Christ "came to the temple". And again, in the book salvetion from 1939. So according to the WTS the Holy Spirit was out of a job for at least 20 years.

Honesty, of course the Holy Spirit was not taken away. What I meant was when, according to the WTS, was the Holy Spirit reinstated. I have done some research but have not found the retraction. Thanks

Do JW's still think Pleiades is God;s eteranal throne?
by bob1999 in"the constellation of the seven stars forming the pleiades appears to be the crowning center around which the known systems of the planets revolve even as our sun's planets obey the sun and travel in their respective orbits.
it has been suggested, and with much weight, that one of the stars of that group is the dwelling-place of jehovah and the place of the highest heavens....
"the constellation of the pleiades is a small one compared with others which scientific instruments disclose to the wondering eyes of man.

It has been suggested, and with much weight, that one of the stars of that group is the dwelling-place of Jehovah and the place of the highest heavens.... "The constellation of the Pleiades is a small one compared with others which scientific instruments disclose to the wondering eyes of man. But the greatness in size of other stars or planets is small when compared with the Pleiades in importance, because the Pleiades is the place of the eternal throne of God" (Reconciliation, p. 14). this is from 1928. And what about "Therefore we may confidently expect that 1925 will mark the return of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob... to the condition of human perfection" (pp. 89-90). from 1920 and "Vaccination has never saved a human life. It does not prevent smallpox" (Golden Age, 4 February 1931, pp. 293-294) I just wonder if these things are still believed. Thanks...
