the witnesses understanding of this scripture was one of the things that i could never grasp.

"28 do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.

they believe that the resurrection is the upcoming resurrection, but because death cleansed the resurrected ones of sin, it would be pointless to judge them on their past deeds, so "did good things" actually refers to what they did after their resurrection, and the judgement comes at the end of the 1000 years.

Romans 6:7

I have no idea how anyone could misunderstand the meaning of "died" in that verse.

2 "....how can we who DIED to sin live in it?"
4 "....we were buried therefore with him by baptism into death....."
6".....we know that our old self was crucified with him...."

In verse 2 "died" clearly does not mean physical death. The man is writing a letter, how can he be dead?
In verse 3 "buried" clearly does not mean literally being covered by dirt.
In verse 6 "crucified" clearly does not mean nailed to a cross or a torture stake.
In verse 7 "dies" how in the world can this mean physical death? It is clearly referring to baptism.

A small child can clearly see this. Anyone who does not understand that Romans 6:1-7 is talking about baptism is not trying very hard or has allowed themselves to be deluded.

To say that "died" in verse 7 is physical death, is totally absurd. This makes me angry.....I'm going to go and kick something now.

when i got baptized as a jw, and being told that the end was so close, and i was only 28, i really thought that my eternal life had already started.

i was sure, with their teachings, that the odds of dying was slim, compared to the proximity of the new system.. i really thought that my eternal life had started..

Yes. Did and do.
1 John5:13 "I write to you who beleive is the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life."

This does not say "have the hope of eternal life" but it says that we have eternal life.

True Christians neutral in War?

today i re-established contact with an older true - friend who is still a jw.

in the fifty years that he has been baptized he invested a lot of time and effort in helping the needy and elderly, loyally taking up responsibilities in the org as an elder, organizer, speaker and shepherd.

he is still out there as a lowly publisher, tirelessly going from door to door with only his bible.

I think a Christian has the right and responsibility to defend his self and his family. So what is war?
It could be argued that it is self-defense.

He seems to have trouble with some of the WTS teachings, yet he seems to still call himself a JW. In his Watchman Essays he uses some of the same logic and long-winded interpretation of Daniel and Ezekiel to show the WTS wrong. I find this fascinating. Why can't people just trust Christ and be at peace knowing and believing the promise of John 3:16 and Romans 8:1 ?

so, here's the story.... me and my dad's relationship has been the shits for ten years.

just recently, i've been "coming around" more, and i should've known that i'd end up regretting it.

i had the idea to build my own temperature chamber for baking tapes, and i needed an old microwave for a chamber.

I can only think Nosferatu is talking about baking audio tapes. With some old analog audio tapes the backing degrades and turns to goo after many years. Ampex 456 is the best example. You can't play them without clogging up the tape machine. I have had tapes at the studio that just stoped the 2" Ampex MM1200 machine cold. http://www.tele-tech.ca/ttmain/30604-1.html

I have spent hours "baking" tapes so they could be played one more time to transfer them to digital. I use a common fruit dryer set at 145 degrees for 3 hours. I have to turn the tapes over every 20 minutes. It's a pain but it works most of the time without hurting the music on the tapes. When done the tapes do not stick together and play fine.

I have not heard of using a microwave for this, but there is a lot of things that I have not heard of.....

by telling us that we shall be destroyed at armageddon, and that we live a life that god doesn't approve of, the jw's are trying to make us believe that we are at odds with god.. were they successful?

In fact from 1889 until 1930, “Jesus has been present since 1914” The Golden Age magazine (1930 p.503)", the WTS taught that 1874 was date of the second presence. Didn't anyone notice that in 1954 they tried to change history? Tried to make us think that 1914 was always the date that they taught as the second presence?

The more I learn about the WTS, the harder it is to believe anyone pays any attention to this outfit at all.

Help, I lost it.

the other day i was reading a quote form a wts publication.

i didn't bookmark it and now i can't find it.

it was talking about the writers of the greek text, saying they were good men of god and god could get his point across through them.

It was talking about the writers of the Greek text, saying they were good men of God and God could get His point across through them. I take that to mean they were not directly inspired. Then it goes on to say the writings of the WTS are similar. Or something like that.

It's like they want to, in order to cover their own butts, lessen the trustfulness of the Word. In other places I have read that they believe there are mistakes in the bible.....

If anyone knows the quote I'm talking about, please let me know.
