A Divided Household

whilst taking my morning shower, where i always seem to do my best thinking (please, no rude remarks concerning showering, thank you)...i got to thinking about my dad.

our family was raised jw's; except for my dad, who knew better!

he passed away about 20 years ago and today, whilst in my shower, (oh yeah, i said that already)...i thought how hard that must of been on him.

Your thoughts really hit home for me. Yes your dad did give up a lot, but he did not give up on you, did he? He was there and that is what every kid wants. I am so thankful my parnets were there for me.

Yes, living in a divided house is difficult. My situation is the opposite of what yours was... only one JW in my house --- her. Growig up JW is one thing, but converting and having holidays and birthdays that were previously celebrated taken away is in my opinion is not fair to the kids. I simply will not allow it to happen and find myself pulling in the opposite direction to make sure my kids have holidays, birhtdays etc.... it is such a big part of our culture.

A Degree....... I can't do this.... HELP!!!

having had my 1-2-1 with my boss yesterday on my performance in managing an acute surgical ward, she informs me that she expects me to commence a course in critical care at degree level commencing september.

the reason being our surgical ward is being converted into a high dependancy unit (like an itu) and she wants me to manage it and gain the necessary skills.

i already have a diploma in higher ed.

Scooby you would be surprised at what you can do! Really!!

It took me a long time to get my degrees, but I did it and I got the sheepskins hanging on the wall to prove it. Here is a thought. Take a good look at some of the people that have more formal education than you do. Are they smarter than you? Of course not! They are "blokes" (I think that is the term used over there.) just like us. A degree takes time and sacrifice, but it does not take forever and when it is done you can look back and say "Yep I done it" "I am one smart dude". What I do not understand is how some people squander their time going from job to job never focusing on getting a solid foundation that will help them go up rather than sideways.

Come on Scube give it the Scooby doobie try. Expand your horizons! It won't kill ya and I have found no matter what courses you take or new work projects you take on, you always, always, always learn something that will apply sometime somewhere in your life. A learning experience opens your mind and opens up doors in the future. Give it a shot Scooby!!

No she does not tell me where she goes and when. Just yesterday a workman was coming by in the morning to do some home repairs and she said she would not be home to receive him, I asked where would she be and she said not here.

No she does not tell me with whom she meets. She has an elderly lady freind. When I asked who she was she said a friend and that is all. Turns out the woman is a very old JW that sells books (per my kids). When she walks by the house, my spouse runs out to catch her and walk with her. I think she might be an annoited one, but I don't know. She keeps me in the dark, so she is not following any of the rules you mention.

Takes care of her home duties and the children?!!! LOL LOL -- I am always left at home with my kids (3), I prepare meals, clean the house, make sure they bathe and brush, put them to bed, take them to church... they see very little of her. She spends endless hours reading JW iterature closed up in her room or on the phone to JW friends and family.

She also takes my youngest somewhere. My youngest will not tell me where they go and what they do it is a secret becasue daddy doesn't understand. I have no idea what she is doing. One night she said she was gong to see a sick JW friend. and left me withthe children. I suspected something and went to a local restaurant where she was dining with three other JW one male 2 female. Explanation: the sick person was too ill to recieve visitors. She does not folow anyof the things you say. Can I turn her in? In your experience do the elders take outsiders serious and will they talk to her?

Ok so a JW does not have to become aPioneer unless they decide to?

Does this mean the canvassing is optional and all JWs are NOT required to go door to door?

Me again. Sorry to be so slow. My wife is in the JWs I and my children are not. I want to know what kind of hours she is putting in. She goes 4 times a week (2 days to congo and 2 days she recieves a study) I'm not sure what she does during the day while I'm at work, but I am pretty sure she is also giving studies or cnavasing the neighborhoods --- she has a ton of magazines and a briefcase.. Would she have an hourly quota?

Funeral today

well i have decided to attend a funeral this afternoon at the kingdom hall.an elder whom i feel was a very nice man passed away .. his wife has always been welcomming to me at the hall.

and doesnt do the ,i dont see you thing, if and when we run into each other in public.

she actually smiles and nods to me.. it will be interesting as my daughter and son in law and grandaughter (whom i dont see unless by accident) will be attending too.. it has been a hard choice as weather to go or not.

You go girl! Don't know if JW's give cards, since I am not one. We don't do that much here. Keep it sincere and simple, she may not be as open as you percieve her to be -- she still is a JW and you are not from what I gather, so don't leave yourself open to get embarassed or hurt -- express your condolences plain and simple and go home. You can be proud of what you did -- you showed love how it was received does not matter. Hey I am feeling happy philosophical because of your decision to attend, so here is a quote for you. I hope you like it.
