Big announcement after all DC have ended?
by Quandary ini was told by a reliable source that the organization will be making a "big announcement" at the end of the summer when all the dcs have ended.
has anyone else heard this?
maybe this is the "new light" they have alluded to in recent wt study articles?

Why do the majority of "newbies" disappear ???
by kid-A ini have noticed that, in general, there is a "core" of regular posters on jwd that have been members for several years.. however, it seems the vast majority of "newbies" disappear after a couple posts, days or perhaps a week.
how many "welcome" or "introduction" .
threads have we had here where the new member disappears within a day or so, never to post again?

I check this site more often then not. Sometimes more then others depending on how hard my family is trying to get me to do something with the "truth".
I have been watching to see when the article in the next Awake or Watchtower is about faders and how the society is going to try to attack us next. So many here have the resources and ability to keep us up to date about what is going on that it makes the arguments with the family easier. Sometimes I quote Blondie word for word! :)
There is a group of you that know each other well and that can be overwhelming at times. I had an issue some time ago with a regular poster where I took issue with the deroggatory useage of a word. I was blasted in a way only a JW could do. An argument ensuded that reminded me that no matter how far we come away from it sometimes the "training" we have had to sell their magazines and to argue, no matter how ugly, wrong or misguided it is, it's deeply seeded in us to be "right". I came away from it realizing that I need to be more mindful that I don't react and become defensive just as I did when I was going door to door.

I found it tiring to keep listening to the "you need to go to meetings" lecture. Now after a couple of years my mother has taken the hint and just left me alone.
Although every single time something tragic in the world happens...I get the lecture again.
I love the posting...I may have to whip it out next time. Which reminds me...memorial is coming up to be missed again.

FINALLY! I feel like a weight has been lifted! I cannot for the life of me remember birthday's. I have a book now dedicated to just that so I won't forget.
I always wondered if I was being absent minded on purpose. I just struggle so bad with it. But I suppose for 25 years of my life I didn't have birthdays and then when I did celebrate mine, I had to hide it from my JW family.

Why did they bother coming to your house? Is that becoming normal to show up without notice and let you know?
I am proud of you! I am not sure what I would do!

ROFL! Is this desperation for SOMETHING to create urgency?

I have zero desire to debate this issue. The R word is hurtful to people like your brother and to my daughter. Education is the best defense and that is what I was trying to convey. My daughter cannot defend herself so I do it for her. Just because you don't take offense doesn't make it right and I have thousands of others besides myself who will counter your stance.
Perhaps joining me at the Special Olympics this year would make you see the world from a little larger vantage.
Again, there are better ways to get your point across and much better words.

Actually I am sitting here in shock and dismay. Mary, my baby was diagnosed with Down Syndrome and words such as yours are not funny and are hurtful. Perhaps you could find another way to get your point across without resorting to childish name calling that only hurts those that cannot defend themselves.

Oprah, James Frey and the call for TRUTH
by Scully ini don't know if you have been following the story about james frey, author of a million little pieces, how the book was inducted into oprah's book club last fall, with him making an appearance on the show, proclaiming the "memoir" as completely true and unaltered.
she even delayed announcing her next book club selection by six weeks to give this book more publicity.. some investigation by the smoking gun revealed that many of the accounts in the book were embellished beyond any recognition of truth.
for example, the incident where frey claims to have been in jail for 3 months, was actually only a matter of hours.

I read this book 3 years ago. It is very well written and a great book. I don't care if it's the truth but he should have written it as "based upon a true story" insted of touting it as true life.
Read it. It's one of the best stories I have ever had the pleasure of picking up.

There is a quote here that just really summed up how I feel and how I am sure a lot of you here feel about being raised JW. It is from novelist Armistead Maupin. He was talking about his being gay and hiding it BUT the remainder of the quote is significant to how I feel:
"My only regret about being gay is that I repressed it so long. (here is the part that applies) I surrendered my youth to the people I feared when I could have been out there loving someone. Don't make that mistake yourself. Life's too damn short."
We surrendered our youth out of fear. Just something I wanted to share with you all.
Hope all are doing well!
