i happened to be reading this part of acts yesterday, ananias and sappira getting zapped for lying about keeping a portion of their profits.
it occurred to me, that is, like, oh my gawd, soooo old testament!
is there any other place in the new testament where a person was immediately executed by god for their error?
dear NewChapter..
you asked: "What exactly, without metaphor, do you think happens to those who die unrepentant?"...Jesus said to one of His called out ones: "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to fall into sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched— where
‘Their worm does not die
And the fire is not quenched.’
And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched— where
‘Their worm does not die,
And the fire is not quenched.’
And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire— where
‘Their worm does not die
And the fire is not quenched.’ mark 9:42-48

you said: "But you dont deny that its what you say WILL happen because you are saying shes lying about her connection go god, his son and his spirit. How very nice of you :-)"...not really, I'm sure that she is very sincere in her belief but I also perceive her to be deceived by a spirit who isn't the Holy Spirit, just like sapphira who showed herself to be in collusion (NOT WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT) with her husband who's heart satan had filled to LIE.
dear "ananias"...
“For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.” mark 9:49-50 (john 17:6-19)

this very account of ananias and sapphira tells us that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit IS failure to repent.
the Holy Spirit informed peter that ananias was holding back and then peter, in confronting ananias with his deception, was offering ananias the opportunity to repent...(he didn't take it) and he continued to LIE. sapphira comes in and was confronted a well, but in collusion with her now deceased husband, she didn't take to opportunity to repent either but continued to LIE.
revelation 22:14-15: "Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a LIE.

you said: "I believe some posters here have just been compared to A & S. Which means they have been called out. Let's see what happens."...
just calling their attention to the obvious. God has brought you (a confessed atheist) in to challenge "sapphira" where a confessed believer has failed. That might imply that "ananias" is not only embarrassing but "inconvenient".
The church laments the different sects and cults that have sprung up. Yet Tammy disseminates her new "christ" unchallenged and was even encourged by "ananias" previously.
but...God is merciful and they do have until their last breath to confess and repent...according to scripture.

dear Tammy...
you said: " Christ also did away with eye for eye... and if God does not change, and Christ is the image of God, then eye for eye was never what God wanted or demanded. But rather it is what the people understood."...
Jesus didn't do away with an eye for an eye for everyone...BECAUSE God does not change.
Jesus is the propitiation for the sins of those who have asked Him to be their Savior...those who refuse Him and the mercy of God are still in the position of being accountable for thier own sins...therefore the eye for an eye JUSTICE of God is in effect in BOTH cases.
partial quote: "it goes against what Christ showed about His Father"...you over-look the JUSTICE of God IN Jesus Christ portrayed in the NT. There are many places in the NT that Jesus in in full accord with the will of His Father. in john 8:24-26, Jesus is clear, "if you don't believe I am He" you are still under condemnation and you will take your sins to the judgement seat. in the book of revelation Jesus is represented at judging those sins and casting people into outer darkness where they will have NO part in the kingdom. rev 22:14-15
What I see is at least two people on this thread who are being false to the Holy Spirit. The people who Jesus called to the office of apostle were informed of the commandments of Jesus and went ahead and preached ALL that He taught them...the Holy Spirit leading them into ALL truth so that they were enabled to preach and write these things. The Holy Spirit facilitated the writing of these doctrines of truth (acts 1:1-2). One person has taken the initiative in listening to and passing on "insight from some other spirit" who denies what is written. Unfortunately yet another person isn't stepping up to the plate and contending for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints in response to this error either...both are holding back some proceeds from the transaction...which can be stated as salvation/mercy in return for their "reasonable service" in ministering the gospel (that's their intention being on this forum)which is the acceptable and perfect will of God. romans 12:1-2; 2 timothy 2:4-5...
no disciple who has his ministry should hold back from teaching the whole counsel revealed by the Holy Spirit because to hold back a portion is to handle the word of God deceitfully. 2 corinthians 4:1-4
imo this account of ananias and sapphira is a sober warning to the church that what they say to men they will be held accountable for in the judgement. (matthew 12:36-37)...

any suggestions?
attending an invite (strange we're invited but hoping to make it worth my while) but i don't want to suffer big consequences as i've already said enough wrong stuff.
i'm stuck reading hassan's ccmc book (about half way --- just don't have time and not into it).
dear LV101...
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 corinthians 5:21)
how is Jesus able to impose the righteousness of God?

let's assume, as most of you probably believe, that the anointed christians are not the fds.
if the anointed are not the fds, who are?.
"Actually the WT's interpretation makes perfect sense when we consider the context. Surely, Jesus' would provide a spiritual feeding program for his followers during such turbulent and gruesome days. Jesus is Head of the Congregation isn't he?"...

jehovah's witnesses have a vast array of buzzterms that are fed into them on a regular basis, not the least of which is the term "bible principles.
" for most of my life i was convinced that only members of the watchtower bible and tract society were applying bible principles in the correct way.
this was mainly because we believed we had the correct translation of the holy scriptures which was largely rejected by "satan's world.

"Christians may practice it for reasons related to religion, but that in no way means that celibacy and abstinence are related to Christianity in particular."...
...I don't recall saying that they were.

my whole statement was: this seems to suggest that in some religions chastity and abstinence is expected of the "priesthood" but the "principles" of chastity and abstinence are not expected of the laity...not so with christianity who's adherents make a personal choice to be set apart like their God.
you said: "OK. But that doesn't mean that abstinence or celibacy are particular to Christianity."...
do/did adherents of other religions practice this to be like their God, Holy and set apart? hinduism has many gods and buddhism doesn't have a definite god so I see the elements or reason for the christian practice as particular to christianity.

you stated in response to: "the pursuit of chastity and abstinence is, at its core, a christian desire to be Holy and "set apart" like the God that is worshipped."
Well that's just wrong. There are many cultures with celibacy and abstinance that had nothing to do with Christianity or the Jews.
from wikipedia: "In some religions, some groups of people are expected to remain unmarried and to abstain from sex completely. These groups include monks, nuns, and priests in various sects of Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity. Chastity is required of the respective sacerdotal orders."...

p.s. the "biblical" thing is...even the angels of God were given the personal choice
