by zeb injust finished a walk today i came onto a happy family group of all the generations celebrating a tiny ones birthday.
they all sang ..happy birthday and i sang with my bass baritone the chorus, .."why was she born so beautiful why was she born at all.." silly words but they are happy words.
the family cheered their pleasure at this outsider joining in.

"John is typically thought to have been influenced by the Stoics, and their account of the logos as the active, rational force that pervades the universe is one of the classic references"...
An active, rational/logical force present or prevading nature is not John's Logos, who is personal, moral and acts on conscience (and sometimes defies logic). john's Logos is set apart from nature by His creating it.

Regardless of the greek gramatical structure in the expression of Logos or Word, we should be looking at the hebrew understanding of who Jesus is since it is a hebrew teaching us.
hebrew understanding makes the "word" of God NOT an expression of inner thought but a dynamic force. "When GOD by His WORD created the heavens and the earth..." The hebrew word always carries with it the idea of accompanying deed. An example of this hebrew understanding is in the admonistion to not to be hearers of the word only but doers also. Likewise, His pre incarnate WORD was an action of God, the WORD wasn't a separate being...ie: a god. It was only when the WORD became flesh that there was a separateness but even then scripture teaches that STILL the fulness of God resided IN that man of flesh.

Is shunning unscriptual?
by MrTheocratic ininternational version 1 cor 5:11. but now i am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler.
do not even eat with such people.. if shunning is wrong.
.how does one explain this scripture?.

dear MrTheocratic...
Paul is making a distinction between those in the congregation (where you would share a fellowship meal including the elements with the "brother") and those who are outside. He says in verse 10 that he didn't mean stop associating with these people outside the fellowship. If the "brother" is removed from the fellowship ie: disfellowshipped...he becomes part of the world, no longer a "brother". In which case he can be associated with as paul says because he no longer "contaminates" the purity of the "bride" or congregation which was the point in disfellowshipping. The JW's have no scriptural grounds for SHUNNING outside the doors of the kingdom halls. Jesus didn't shun and paul didn't encourage it either. Paul says it another way and for a different reason...if someone comes to your house (for fellowship as was the case in the early church) and he doesn't have the doctrine of Christ, don't allow him in or your have a part in his evil ways. Again, this is about the purity of the fellowship not about associations outside the congregational fellowship "meetings"
If you look at the context of the statement about "it isn't what enters the mouth that defiles a man but what comes out" it is talking about transgressing the commandment of God which the pharisees were doing with their traditions of men. Jesus was saying that the fact that His disciples didn't wash their hands only introduced germs that would be later eliminated. The pharisees introduced traditions of men that weren't eliminated...these traditions came out of their mouths and resulted in transgression of the law.Paul didn't give the go ahead to eat "whatever". Being a torah observant jew, the foods that were meant to be received with thanksgiving were kosher only. There were judaizers that were forbidding the eating of (presumably market meats that were purchased daily where one wouldn't know) meats that were given by God to be eaten because they COULD have been used in sacrifice to idols. Paul said basically don't worry...buy the kosher meat and it will be sanctified by your prayer over it. IF you are invited to someones house and they tell you that the meat was used in idol worship then don't eat it...in doing so you will affect the conscience of those gathered. (negatively for those who are not wanting to eat things used in idol worship or for those that don't care it would be positive affirmation that it doesn't matter what a christian eats. Paul was saying it's a bad witness all around if you KNOWINGLY eat foods used in idol worship)love michelle

The Teacher
by compound complex inan unwelcome dawn comes creeping upward, her tendrils straddling the dark mountain so terribly near my once sweet but now quaking refuge called home of the heart.. i peer through panes that give onto a landscape of horror that, to some, appears pristine but to me is a reminder that he has been swallowed up by a wood both black and cruel.. daring to venture forth, i hear his voice .
.
.. he calls out, so faintly, begging i rescue him from a jail that holds him fast against all escape; though myself a liberated man, i cannot free the one i taught the truth.

Here is what kind of person (Prince) a celebrity JW is

As we all know, cognitive dissonance allows people like Prince to hold two contradictory sets of ideas and pretend they can live with them. ~TerryThere are some people on this forum who would be considered faithful JW's yet they don't believe a word of it. They have double lives to an even more ridged standard than Prince. Are you saying that they are like Prince in suffering cognitive dissonance? Or are they like Prince because they're "pretenders"?Why don't you give people the benefit of the doubt? ALL of these people, I suspect, are cognizant of what they're doing and they're doing it for a reason that seems good to them. None of them "fit" your black or white thinking...Yeah, maybe you were square and walked the JW walk and Prince defied the rules and got away with it. I can see that maybe you might feel that he is inferior to your alll or nothing "values"...but, this thread and what you've posted shows a petty, judgemental side of you that may prove to cause unintended collateral damage to people that don't deserve your critique of their personal life and how they lead it.xo
