Anyone Live Near Hollywood BLVD in Los Angeles?

okay, so .....i got a ticket =/ i was going 45 ... i was rushing to see the new play 'wicked' ...based off the wizard of oz etc.. it started at 8 and well it was 8:01. cop pulls me over and says 'you know your going 45 in a 35 zone?

' ...he gives me a ticket and since i was in a hurry, i just signed it and took off to the parking lot (which happened to be 2 blocks away grrr) anyway.

i look at the ticket and it says that the speed limit was 30!

I drive through this area all the time. Most business districts are 35. You can fight it if you choose. Get the Nolo Press' book on fighting a speeding ticket. It gives you everything you need to know to fight the ticket. I have used it in the past to fight a speeding ticket and won (that should not be construed as a gaurantee of victory however). If you fight the ticket you will be required to pay the infraction fine (this is bail to ensure your return on the court date), and the judge will schedule you for a court date. Since the infraction occurred in Hollywood, you can call the Hollywood station, and ask if the issuing officer when scheduled for vacation, and then ask the judge for a court date during that time. No cop, no conviction since you have the right to face your accuser. Believe it or not stations will give out this information! You can then subpoena the records of the radar gun and all the calibration tools used for the gun that nailed you. If those are out of order in the least, case dismissed. If those reocords are in order, then you will need to go further. This is covered in any fight your ticket book, but I recommend Nolo Press.

Re. traffic school: You will need to attend the court date (arraignment) first, and ask the judge for traffic school as there are certain requirements that must be met in order to qualify. Among those qualifications is that you have not taken traffic school in the past 18 months. BTW, the only thing traffic school does is eliminate the point that will be added to your driving record, and the subsequent increase to your auto insurance. You will still have to pay for the driving school and the infraction fine.

exjw4ever-You have to admit, not one man you listed was born in the 20th century... Darwin hadn't taken hold before almost everyone of them were alive. Hard to know something about an theory that hadn't even arrived yet. None of those men knew about avionics either. Again, you are posting about the exceptions to the rule, in social science that can always be done.

I see where your Trojans are ranked above UGA this week, I see a big showdown if this continues.

Depends on what happens on the 13th. If SC handles the Sweater, then it looks good. However, UGA just has to slug its way through the "almighty" SEC. Not that it matters to me all that much. The PAC-10 is 10-6 against the Super Ego Conference (including a recent 6-2 run capped by the guts Bruins upset of Tennessee Monday), so my guess is that if SC faces an SEC team, the should be able to dispatch them back home.

It is not at all surprising that scientists living from the 6th to 19th centuries were nominally Christian. Even now, many members of religious countries have an attitude problem with atheists (as has been demonstrated), so how do you think those scientists back then would have fared if they said they didn't believe Christian theology? The list is therefore unhelpful.

Sorry, but the list was produced in order to show the utter folly of Dawg's assertion that religionists are not deep thinkers and lack curiosity.

The rest of your post is argument from hypothesis, though I can think of Galileo, who theorized a heliocentric solar system. He was ordered to stand trial on suspicision of heresy by Pope Urban VIII. Galileo's works were proclaimed "heretical", he was imprisoned (later commuted to house arrest), and a ban was placed on the publishing of his works. These were later rescinded by subsequent Popes.

Now one other point I wish to make about the list, is that most of those scientists came from Protestant countries, as opposed to Catholic ones. I am aware that Protestants are not as "white as the wind driven snow" when it comes to persecution of those that had radical ideas, the fact remains that sometimes religion is good, and that it was religion, namely the one found in the Bible that caused these persons to embark on the scientific expedtions to uncover these things.

A list of scientists who were Christians 200-800 years ago is pointless. In their society they would have been lynched for saying otherwise. But even if they were true believers - we've come a long way since then.

I have demonstrated that this is just not true. I agree that there are numerous problems with religion. In fact, The NY Times reports that in Orissa, India Hindus murdering Christians because some Maoist insurgents murdered a Hindu guru. What's my point? Simply, if the humanistic Maoists had not murdered this Hindu guru, then perhaps things would not have exploded.

I see that no amount of evidence will cause you to change you preconceptions, and that is sad. It appears that you have become a fundie...an atheist fundie.

Dawgie, I did not say that these profound scientists were Christian, therefore Christianity must be true. That, my friend is an appeal to authority. What I did was clearly refute your baseless assertion that Christians lack intellectual curiosity. You my friend are playing semantics.

all of the great minds you listed could be.. no check that, are wrong about Christianity... the Bible, the book Christianity is based upon, has been disproved in each of the sciences you listed these great thinkers coming from.

I've known many a chemist that were both atheist and Christian alike... still, religious societies aren't as good socially as non religious, and that is what this subject is about.

No, Dawg, I got exactly what you were talking about. You think Christians, and any one who is religious are morons, as evidenced by your stupid statement. I showed you a list that shows that you are either intectually dishonest or too lazy to do your own research. If you have a beef with Christianity and/or religions then have your beef with them, but do not stoop to the childish and petty antics of Chrissy Hitchens, Dickie Dawkins and Sammy Harris.

Is religion a problem? Yes it is. However it is no more of a problem than greed or ambition. Just because you chose to parrot only "studies" that agree with your own narrow-minded and bigoted views, does not mean that I have to accept them.

What about those of us that do not accept your narrow-minded and bigoted views of religion? Are we to be sent to "re-education camps" as has been seen in so many Marxist/Communist governments? Will children be taken away from parents that refuse to allow their children to be taught evolution, same-sex marriage or other views that they have fundamental disagreements with?

You, the secular-humanist, are espousing ideas that are the same ideas held by the religious fundamentalists you so hypocritically profess to detest. Funny how those remaining three fingers have a tendancy to point back at you when you point the finger, isn't it?

The irony about the 2001 attack is there really was a conspiracy. A conspiracy that was indeed compartmentalized and known by only a handful of religious cult followers who had been brainwashed into believing suicide was the way to heaven. And the conspiracy worked. The attack did in fact succeed.

The conspiracy I spoke of was the U.S. government sponsered conspiracy. Yes, I do believe that a conspiracy existed to bring about the events of 9/11, but that conspiracy was limited to a small group of true believers in Islam.

Probably because many people have a hard accepting that something (WTC buildings) or someone (JFK) as impactful on the world as they were could be taken out by a group of loonies or a lone and insignifacant loser.

One thing that I think is forgotten in all of this conspiratorial thought, is that the 9/11 attacks were the second attempt at toppling the WTC. The first being done in 1993 under the Clinton administration. Interestingly enough, a Google of "first WTC bombing conspiracy" only brings up two entries. One reports an allegation that an Egyptian informant that advised the FBI as early as Feb. 6, 1992 that there was a plot to bomb the WTC. The second is from David Duke's website in which he states that he was under attack from the ADL for basically the same anti-Semitic stuff that many of the 9/11 conspiracy buffs advocate, namely that Israel was involved in both bombings.

This begs the question, "Why are so many willing to buy the official government line about the first WTC bombing?" Why couldn't the government had orchestrated this bombing, and merely pinned it on Ramzi Yousef and Omar Abdel-Rahman? If 9/11 was the product of a government conspiracy, then the 1993 WTC could be also. In fact, I think that the clearest evidence of a government conspiracy for the 1993 WTC bombing was its failure.

So why are so many willing to accept a 9/11 conspiracy, yet disregard a 1993 conspiracy? I believe that the answer may lie in the nearly pathological hatred of George W. Bush by many of these conspiracy theorists. My reason is simple, the Clinton administration appeared to have had many more cover-ups and conspiracies than the Bush administration. However, I do not believe that the Clinton administration was involved in a 1993 WTC bombing conspiracy, and the reason is simple, evidence. For that same reason I do not believe in a 9/11 conspiracy theory. If that makes me a "Kool-aid drinker", or a "sheeple" then so be it. I distinctly remember refering to householders that rejected the WT rags with names that carried a similar disdain ("goats" or "religionists"). I don't care if the conspiracy theorists call me names. I sleep very well at night with the beliefs I, and that are based on the facts at my disposal regarding 9/11.

Edited to add: Leolaia (sorry if I misspelled your name), James Woods, Big Tex and others who have challanged the conspiracists have the patience of Job, and should be commended.
