Paul Newman was one on my all-time favorite actors. I loved in in Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, Hud, A Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Hustler, The Color of Money (for which he won a long overdue Best Actor Oscar, despite better performances from James Woods & William Hurt), Cool Hand Luke, Blaze, Exodus, The Sting...There are so many. He was a natural.

My first recollections of Dodger Stadium were sitting in the Stadium Club with my mom. Since my dad was working in the Spanish Kitchen, she had access to that place. Inside was a huge stuffed polar bear. I remember the conventions going into the night, but only vaguely. Most of my conventions after this were in Amarillo, TX. Yuck!
I loved the old days. As someone else said they were seemed free and real. A few ears ago I went to Long Beach, and walked around the grounds. I was in shorts and a t-shirt, and when I was asked about my presensein that state of dress, I simpl replied that I had already had my convention, and that I was in southern California on vacation. I told the elder that when I saw all the brothers and sisters, I just wanted to see the kingdom joy that we as Jehovah's people have when we are together. He bought it and left me alone. I was shocked that I could fall backj into the mindless mantras with little effort. However, I digress. At this convention I was struck by the total control that the Societ now has on the R&F. There were none of the smiling faces that I remember from my teenage years. There seemed to be no conversation going on, and this was during the lunch break. What a change.

My Story
by XJW4EVR ini was adopted into a jw family in southern california.
my birth mother gave me up after 6 months (the terms mom & dad refer to my adoptive/real parents).
she gave me up due to the fact that she already had a three year old boy, and back in the late sixties it was not as socially acceptable to be a single mother.

I want to thank all of you for reading this saga and for your comments. In writing this down, I was able to get out a lot of emotions that I had repressed about my time in the Borg. While that was the main reason for writing this, I also wanted to write this out to maybe help a lurker whose story might be similar. What I got was message after message from many who benefitted. I am humbled deeply by that.
I have often thought about adding more, and maybe one day I will continue, either here or at another site. However for now this chapter is closed. It took me a long time to write, and a long to realize that I had nothing more to say.
Through this posting, I have reconnected with a friend from my past, and just recently, I connected with a person that knew my mother. I hope that this story will help me connect with others from the past.

"Lost" Syndicated
by XJW4EVR inlost is now on two syndicated channels, scifi & g4.
i watched part one of the pilot last night on g4, because g4 is doing an "enhanced" version which scifi is not.
i learned a couple of things; first jack was originally to be played by michael keaton, something i thought was interesting, and fits the character.

So you Lost fans, are you going to watch?

Leaving the WT is on of the hardest thing that a person can do, espcially one raised in it. I am sure that like me, many of us took years to rid ourselvs of the emotional and mental shackles that bound us to that religion. I hate this religion so much for that, and how it manipulates people.

by DanTheMan ini've been in denial for a couple of years, but it's finally coming home to roost...ohio state is overrated and they can't compete with the elite college teams.

I guess all you Super Ego Conference people can just shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Edited to add: The realization that Ohio State is over rated is an understatement.

A few of my issues with evolution:
1. It violates the second law of thermodynamics. All other fields of science recognize this fact except biology, because the presuppositions of the scientists in this discipline won't allow for an alternative.
2. Abiogenesis has yet to be demonstrated.
3. Dead animals don't evolve.

Do You Believe In Presidential Polls?
by minimus ini don't.
i think they're up and down on whatever the whim of the day is.
polls mean nothing right now,
-
XJW4EVR
There is only one poll that I take seriously, and the next one will happen the first Tuesday of November. The others are just snapshots, and do not tell the whole story. Polls can be manipulated. Poll questions can be deliberately vague. Polls should be taken with a large grain of salt.

Study shows more violence in religious societes
by dawg insince no one bothered to read in my last thread how secular societies have lower rates of violence and teenage pregnancy than societies where many people profess belief in god.
i figured i'd give those among us who are religious the benefit of the doubt that the post was lost in the haze of the argument.
so, i thought i'd post it again here.

Now one other point I wish to make about the list, is that most of those scientists came from Protestant countries, as opposed to Catholic ones.
And? Are you acknowledging that Catholics were more of a roadblock to knowledge than other branches of Christianity (see also Dark Ages)? Or some other thing? My statement is based on the historical record. How much more clear do I need to be?
I am aware that Protestants are not as "white as the wind driven snow" when it comes to persecution of those that had radical ideas, the fact remains that sometimes religion is good
The fact remains that sometimes is good.?????
and that it was religion, namely the one found in the Bible that caused these persons to embark on the scientific expedtions to uncover these things.
Their religion caused them to embark...? What are you basing that on? It is likely that for at least some, it was despite it, or with no regard to it whatsoever, though it sure would have helped with funding to be sponsored the Church.Yes, "caused them to embark." One example I can think of off-hand is Matthew Maury. He set off on his discoveries in oceanography based on Psalm 8. His discoveries in this realm of science caused him to be nicknamed Pathfinder of the Seas, and the Father of modern Oceangraphy and Naval Meteorology.
