I began reading this thread, and soon tired of the anti-American rhetoric that threads like these tend to breed. My response would be this. Yes, America has bombed a number of countries, even using atomic bombs on Japan. However, America also instituted the Marshall plan at the end of World War Two which helped Germany regain its economic footing, and averted the error that the World War One allies foisted on Germany after that war's armistice. The United States also helped Japan in the same manner after World War Two. I would also point out that Many countries have bombed other countries, including Great Britain. However, it appears that only America is stuck with the big bad country label. Why is this the case?

"Why does America always bomb other countries?", my son asked tonight.
by digderidoo infirst of all i do not want to turn this into an american bashing thread, that is not my intention at all.. i would like to hear americans opinions as to what my thirteen year old son asked me tonight.. on the way back from swimming tonight my two sons (13 and 11) and myself started talking about wars.
my 11 year old was the first to bring it up talking about wwi & ww2.
we had an interesting conversation about it, then the subject got onto nuclear bombs.

Illegals and Job Growth
by sammielee24 ini didn't know there had been a major deportation of illegals in 1954 in order to open up those jobs for americans needing work.
with unemployment rising quickly, do you think that the next president will produce another 'operation roundup' so that they can better manage the countries finances and labour problems?
operation wetback was a 1954 project of the united statesimmigration and naturalization service (ins) to remove about 4 million illegal immigrants from the southwestern united states, with a focus on mexican nationals.. .

"The reality is that at least 12 million illegal aliens are here... You can't deport 4% of the US population, so they are not going anywhere, and they keep on coming in..."
Actually, Oklahoma and Arizona have seen a net loss in illegal immigrants due to the laws that have been enacted that turn off the benefits to these people. The illegal immigrants have in essence, self-deported. Therefore the logic is simple, turn off the magnets, and they will return to their countries of origin.
"You make it sound like all the crimes and murders committed in the US are caused by illegal aliens..."
Nice rabbit hole. Want to actually try making an argument?
"Most illegal immigrants that I know come here to escape poverty in their home country, and come here to work. Studies have been done that demonstrate that this does stimulate local economies, since many aliens decide to work as entrepreneurs."
No, that is not necessarily true. Other studies have been done that show the following:
A 2005 Pew Hispanic Center survey, found that of those illegal immigrants how had been in the United States two years or less, only 5% came because they lacked work in their country of origin.
In January of this year, Los Angeles County Supervisor, Mike Antonovich declared that illegal aliens were costing county taxpayers in excess of $1 billion dollars a year. This is just one county in the United States. Which begs the question, what is the cost to the nation? The U.S. Census Bureau discovered in 2002 that illegal immigrants created a net deficit at the federal level of $10 billion dollars after considering all taxes paid (direct & indirect). They also estimated that if amnesty was granted that deficit would grow to $29 billion.
"Maybe this illegal alien will be operating on your xenophobic brains one day"
This is the same old and tired argument that those of us that fight illegal immigration hear all the time. The only thing that it signifies is that you have lost the argument. It is another manifestation of the Hitler fallacy. -

"If you eat fruit grown in America, illegal aliens probably picked it...."
The same thing was said by tomato growers when the bracero program was ended. Guess what? Tomato growers coupled with geneticists to create an oblong rather than spherical tomato which lent itself to mechanical pickers. Within 18 to 24 months the artificial spike in tomato prices was removed. The same thing will happen with any other industry that relies on the slavery otherwise known as illegal immigration.
"...and another may have transported it."
One question. How about those Teamsters? Oh, yeah, they are in bed with the globalist governments that want to keep wages artificially low.
"if you eat in a restaurant in America, there is probably an illegal alien in the kitchen."
Probably, and when you eat there think of the unprecedented rise in TB, Hepatitis, and other blood or air borne diseases that had virtually been eliminated from this country just 20 years ago that have resurfaced thanks to the illegal immigration that has been fostered by this government, and in particular the Bush administration.
"if you stay in a small hotel in America, an illegal alien might clean your room."
How many native born Americans have had their jobs taken by illegals?
"if you eat fast food, an illegal alien might flip your burger."
Yes, these were jobs that many of us had as teenagers. Now, they are filled by illegals.
"If you live in America, an illegal alien might be your neighbor (there's at least 12 million of them here...."
Yes, these would be the "neighbors" that play that horrid pom-pom music till 3 in the morning. The "neighbors" that murder grandmothers who simply scold them for vandalizing her neighborhood. The "neighbors" that molest and impregnate 10, 11 & 12 year old girls. The "neighbors" that parade up and down the streets waving the flags of their home countries demanding amnesty. The "neighbors" that hurl frozen water bottles and cups filled with urine at American soccer players. The "neighbors" that are in the process of ethnically cleansing African-Americans from the city of Los Angeles. For example, murdering a promising young black student who had no gang affiliations in order to fulfill some twisted "machismo" gang initiation. Some neighbors aren't they? -

3 suspended for not standing for Pledge of Allegiance
3 suspended for not standing for Pledge of Allegiance
By PAUL WALSH, Star Tribune
May 9, 2008
Three small-town eighth-graders in Minnesota were suspended by their principal for not standing Thursday morning for the Pledge of Allegiance, violating a district policy that the principal now says may soon be reworded to protect free speech rights.
"My son wasn't being defiant against America," said Kim Dahl, mother of one of the students, Brandt, who attends Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Junior High School in northwestern Minnesota.
Brandt told the Forum newspaper in Fargo that Thursday's one-day in-school suspension, "was kind of dumb because I didn't do anything wrong. It should be the people's choice."
Kim Dahl said the "punishment didn't fit the crime. If they wanted to know why he didn't stand, they should've made him write a paper." She said her son has been declining to stand all school year, offered no reason for sitting and was not obligated to explain his actions.
The school's handbook says all students are required to stand but are not required to recite the pledge. The same is true for all four schools in the district, a school official said.
"These three [students] didn't, and they got caught," said Mel Olson, the district's community education director. He said he backs the punishment, "being a veteran and a United States of America citizen, absolutely." Olson served in the Marines in Japan during the Vietnam War.
The head of the Minnesota American Civil Liberties Union said that the school's actions against the students are unconstitutional, and his office informed the district of that today in a strongly worded letter.
"The school can't do that; that's illegal," said Chuck Samuelson, the civil liberties group's executive director. "Wow."
Samuelson said that numerous U.S. Supreme Court rulings dating to the 1940s say in "well-settled constitutional law" that "students who refuse to participate in the pledge cannot be punished for refusing to participate."
Samuelson said he's surprised that any public school district would have such a pledge requirement, given that state law allows for students and teachers to decide not to participate. Most states have the same "opt-out" provision.
In St. Paul, said district spokesman Howie Padilla, "Students can respectfully not participate in the Pledge of Allegiance." Minneapolis schools treat pledge participation the same way.
Colleen Houglum, the principal who suspended the three, acknowledged in a statement late this morning that the policy requirement that " 'all students will stand' may need to be modified to address the protection of the individual's form of expression."
Kim Dahl said Houglum called her this morning and informed her of the possible accommodation. "I think they are handling it quite professionally," Kim Dahl said, adding that Houglum told her that school officials "are taking some steps to take the [suspensions] off their records."
That possible shift was met with disappointment from Olson. While he said he'll fall in line with whatever change may occur, "I still have my beliefs."
Earlier today, Olson said that a "very nice announcement" was made at the start of the junior high school day reminding the students that they must stand for the pledge.
Houglum said that all students this morning were "involved in some fashion" during the pledge, adding that no additional suspensions were needed.
However, the family of 14-year-old Bishop Edens told the Forum that he was suspended from school today (Friday) because he wouldn't stand for the pledge, but he was quickly invited back once Houglum said a policy change might be needed. Edens had said Thursday that he would sit in support of the other three. "Our social studies teacher led the pledge, and that was kind of a nice change of pace," Houglum said.Kim Dahl asked Brandt why he has been remained seated all school year, but "he didn't have an answer ... he doesn't get in trouble; he's just a normal 13-year-old."
As for today, she told Brandt to take his cell phone with him to school and text her should he run into trouble again. "I said you should probably just stand if you're not protesting something."

Interesting post Rapunzel. A couple of questions:
1. How do you know if something is evil? Would you not have to have good to compare it against?
2. How do you know what good is?
3. What do we use as our basis of judging good and evil?
4. If the basis of judging good or evil is our feelings, then good and evil are simply preferences, are they not?
This debate happened right after the tsunami that struck southeast asia. The best response I recall was by a Jewish rabbi who said that God allows these tragedies in order for His love to be manifested by His followers. I have not able to find that citation in the relatively short period of time I have between classes. I will continue to look. -

I worked, for about 18 months, in a Scientologist owned & operated company. The company used Hubbard Management Technology, which has many good points, but too many negative points. The training program was incredibly detailed, even down to the point of making clay models to demonstrate your knowledge of the tasks you were to perform. The breaking point for me happened when, two weeks after placing an inter-office memo against proselytizing in our mailboxes, pamphlets from The Way of Happiness were placed in the same boxes. I complained to the VP of HR, and two days later another memo was circulated which stated that the pamphlet was not considered proselytizing. I laughed, and walked out. Two weeks later I was dragged into a meeting with the VP of HR on trumped up charges of damaging company reputation (a long story), that my own supervisor said was without merit. This was considered a five-point infraction. Two of these and your are terminated. One week later I got my second five-point infraction, and was terminated. When I spoke with a lawyer about wrongful termination, he told me that it was pointless, since I had signed a binding arbitration agreement. He then told me that the arbitration company was linked to Scientology. I thanked him for his assistance and moved on. You can tell if a company uses Hubbard Management Technology if you see a huge Organization Board, which details the corporate structure of the company down to the most mundane task. They may also use the Personality Test (which you can ace if you are Google savvy), along with other Hubbard Management Technology.

24th Of April- The anniversary of The Armenian Genocide
by justhuman intoday is a day to remember what happened before 93 years in turkey.
over of 1.5 millions armenians were massacred by the turks, in one of the most brudal genocides of the 20th century.
there are no words to describe what savage ways did the turks used against the armenian population.. today 93 years after armenians demand the recognition of the genocide by turkey and international community, the return of the armenians to their ancestral land, and the condemnation and punishment of the crime to prevent the occurance of such crimes in the future.

Having worked and lived with Armenians, I know first hand how much this day means to the Armenian community. It is indeed sad that the Turkish government denies that this genocide took place.
April 24th is a day in which one ethnicity chooses to remember their dead. Sadly there is a group in Los Angeles who believes that one day is one day too many for anyone other than Latinos.
Grant H.S. Increases Security After Culture Clash
VAN NUYS, Calif. Grant High School will increase a police presence following outbreaks of shouting between Armenian and Latino students at the end of an Armenian genocide remembrance assembly.
The disruption broke out at the Van Nuys school around noon on Wednesday, said Susan Cox of the Los Angeles Unified School District. No arrests were made and there were no injuries reported.
The shouting apparently started with Latino students taking issue with the program. School police quickly intervened.
"The students that were involved in the friction were sent home with their parents," said Principal Linda Ibach.
"We did ask the parents to pick them up themselves. Some of the students were suspended over the next couple of days. We will sort all that out on Monday when the students return."
Ibach said extra officers would be deployed at the campus through Monday "just to make sure that we are all calmed down." -
