  What sort of answer would satisfy you? It is clear that the answer given takes into account the context of the verses, and the audiences of the individual books. I have no issue with how this alleged contradiction is explained. Why do you have an issue with it?

  I am really sorry that you just see a dull list. I see a pattern.

  Ah, yes, there it is, the skeptics ad hominem. We skeptics are so much smarter, and you Christians are a bunch of bithering idiots. Glad to see that. It actually causes my trust in the Bible to grow (1 Cor. 1:18-31).

  Verses descriptive or advocating suicide, incest, bestiality, sexual activity in a violent context, murder, revenge, contradictions and human rights violations.

  Just because these horrid activities are recorded in the Bible doesn't mean that it is given a wink by God.

  I thought you considered the bible supreme?

  If you mean the bible is supreme in the areas of morals and doctrine, then yes, I hold the bible to be the final court of arbitration in those areas.

  That's what I was reading. Are you reading something else? Does Satan have a side I should be looking at?

  I am not really sure what your point is here, other than a sarcastic jab at my expense. I am wondering, are you at all capable of dialoging with people you disagree with without resorting to sarcastic and incendiary jabs?

  How did you come to this conclusion?

  If you read any John Grisham novel you will find a great many actual places and things which DO EXIST woven into his totally FICTIONAL stories.

  Now, think about this--will you please?

  Two thousand years from now archeologists will make many discoveries which CONFIRM GRISHAM'S record!!

  I ask you this point blank: WILL THESE ARCHEOLOGICAL FINDINGS MAKE GRISHAM'S NOVELS NON-FICTION at that point???

  If your point is that you believe that the Bible is non-fiction, then please, provide us with some proof. I like arguements. You know major premise, minor premise, conclusion. You just go to the conclusion, and expect me to follow you blindly. Sorry, but I gave up following blindly when I left the JWs.

  1. All i can say to this is that you need to do more research on the history of the bible, you don't strike me as having done much. And really, how can you call it harmonious? It is full of contradictions & multiple themes.

  I have heard this so many times from skeptics. What has led you to this conclusion?

  2. Most of the prophecies were either self-fulfilling or were written about after the event (such as in the case of Babylon) & many of them probably never came true anyway (Jesus anyone?).

  4. I'm beginning to think that this thread is satire. Is it? If it is then you should have made that more clear. And really, go & get a decent science book, read it from start to finish, then re-read the biblical sections relating to science & then get back to me. Much of the bible is scientifically inaccurate (bats are fowl?, birds appeared at the same time as fish?, the earth was created before the sun?, the earth hangs on nothing AND has pillars, corners & the heavens have windows?) & as for the parts that are accurate, most of those things were already known by the ancient egyptians 2000 years before the earliest parts of the bible were written. People were not as ignorant back in those days as you might think.

  I see that you are either ignorant of hyperbole, similies, and other literary devices used to convey abstract ideas in concrete terms. Further, why do you find fault in a book that has a specific theme, the redemption of sinful humanity, and which does not afford attention to issues that are not perinent to its theme? Would you pick up a history book, and expect a full treatment of quantum physics?

  5. How do you know they were being honest? Since much of what they wrote isn't consistent with history, it seems that calling them honest is an odd thing to do, they were either dishonest or misinformed. And if you're referring to people like Moses being honest about his own failures... hmm, check out the REAL history of the Torah, it wasn't written by Moses. In fact, Moses may not have even existed.

  Again, how do you come to these conclusions? Time after time archeologists have made discovories that confirm the biblical record.

  Jehovah's Witnesses and Calvinistic Predestination

  this is a complex question, and i just want to get a discussion started on the message of jehovah's witnesses and how it relates to their adventist roots, and esp calvinism.. bear with me, i will try to be concise.. we all know that while jehovah's witnesses like to deny adventist roots, that it is clear that according to them, the man jesus selected to get the whole thing started, c t russell, was heavily influenced by adventist ideas, esp the (adventist) idea that has really never left them; the idea that somehow, a time date or period can be inferred from the bible if you read certain scriptures through an adventist lens.

  (thus, the 2520 years, 7 gentile times, etc.).

  so while this is relatively well known, there is a concept that jehovah's witnesses teach against, yet practice.

  It is clear to me that these kind of theological discussions had no part of Jesus' ministry.

  Jesus had many theological discussions. Times in which He taught His disciples, and times when He rebuked the religious leaders of the day.

  Yes, you have value to God. You have so much value that God sent His son to live the life you could not live, and to die the death you should have died.

  Don't tell the poor that if God loved you then you wouldn't be poor.

  That is a damnable teaching! Abrham Lincoln said, "God must love the poor. Why else would He have made so many of them?
