i have been lurking here for about 3 months or so, and i guess i finally decided today to jump on in and join the board.
i dont want to make this post too long, but just to give you all a background......i was born in 1975 to a jw mother and non believing father.
i have one younger brother.
Welcome Soledad!
Thanks for sharing your story. My Mother is a product of the believing/non-believing parent arrangement, also. She didn't get the best of both worlds either. My Grandfather just watched from the sidelines, helplessly, while my Grandmother indoctrinated her children with the WT's insidious cult dogma.
My heart just breaks for kids that have to cope with the belief that one of their parents is going to be destroyed at Armageddon.

jane doe once upon a time had a dream life, she had the perfect man, who would've done anything for her, and did everything just for her, loved her wholeheartedly, dedicating the rest of his life to make her happy.
well, one day joe blow comes along, and sweeps jane off her feet, w/ his delightful smile and his vivacious personality--and jane starts to get confused: she has deeps feeling for john doe, but she just can't resist this joe blow.
somehow, in the middle of ruining her dream life--the nice house, loving, caring person to share it with, she finds herself totally smittened by joe blow, and starts thinking about him more than she thinks about her john doe dude.
Of course it's possible.

I didn't catch the first few epidsodes, but I have to admit, I find the show hilarious. I'm hooked. It is hard to understand what they are saying sometimes because of all the bleeping of profanity. And there is a ton of it. It was abit unnerving for me, at first, to see the kids, Jack and Kelly, using the F-word just as much as their parents.
My parents cussed, expecially my Dad, but us kids were never allowed to swear. And we didn't, at least not in front of them .
I guess I am intrigued by showing the combination of outrageousness with the everyday challenges of raising kids, i.e. Ozzy chewing Jack out for not taking care of his dog, which had left a "present" in the house.
I hope they rerun the whole series again so I can catch the shows I missed.

A Bible Scholars conclusions are only valid when they agree with the WTS.
I think that pretty much applies to everything when it comes to the WTS.
Agree with the WTS=Valid
Disagree with the WTS=Not Valid

just a question -.
anyone else here ( i know you do mommydark) have experience with attention deficiet/ hyperactivity disorder??.
i'm just looking for some help onit... thanks... lyd
Heaven,
I can so much relate to your experience with your son. Mine is 5, almost 6, and he is a handful. And I do the same thing with my husband. The "he can't help it" or "he doesn't understand what you expect of him".
He is absolutely one of the most loving kids around. Very huggie, kissie. However, my life is greatly restricted because, well, I just can't take him anywhere! My daughter was the same way, but with intervention, she greatly improved by his age now. It seems to be more prevalent and longer lasting in boys.
I am not completely against medicating. However, only as a LAST resort. There can be serious consequences with the various stimulants that are prescribed to children for ADHD. The dosages have to be constantly monitered, and sometimes, altered. Plus, the side affects have to be considered. Then, there are times when the meds lose their affectiveness and have to be switched.
However, I do know that some kids have greatly benefitted from these drugs. I just think that many parents and school officials want it to be fixed, and fixed, now. My viewpoint is always what is in the best interest of the child.
Seems yours is too.

Heaven,
It's never too early to help children like yours. Get as many opinions as you can. And learn all you can about ADHD and how it may, or may not, relate to your son. YOU have to become the expert and advocate for your child.
Again, it's never to early to start intervention and treatment. In fact, it may save you, and your son, years of frustration.
It's better to know now.
I wish you well.
Email me if you like.

now i know what "reining in children" means....i thought it referred to getting them to listen....no, according to the just jw page, it refers to putting them in reins during field service.
general : field ministry (with children).
recommend (0 recommendations so far) message 1 of 3 in discussion .
Put on reins? Does she mean a harness???
Yeah, kanga, put a harness on the little one. Hey, maybe you can wrap the strap connected to it around your arse and have him PULL you around in service!
Shaking head,
Andee
