  I'd have to say that a few posters did a nice job of harmonizing the two different timelines into a plausible story. (i.e. your original question on desert soujourn or wedding right after baptism?)

  But your post showing the discrepancies of when the Baptist was imprisoned and when Jesus called his twelve was excellent! That should be a stumper.

  Reading all the different gospels (extracannonical and cannonical) that were written, leaves us with all sorts of conflicts. Were they all just making it up? I'd say yes. I agree with you that is lying in a way. But I think they're making it up in the sense of story-telling and myth-making.

  P.S. Was Yoda a gnostic? In Ep.5 he did say something like "luminous beings are we, not this flesh" to Luke.

  Well wasn't the whole 40 days in the wilderness deal about Jesus being tempted?

  Thats an alright plot scene for a less than divine being (be it a more human Son of Man, or a demi-god Son of God).

  John if I read him right, makes JC out as God. I really don't see then why one would include a scene of God being tempted. It wouldn't sit right with that particular portrayal of the character.

  Say it ain't so Gumby! Say it ain't so!

  Well there are alota flicks with alternate endings director's cuts.

  Maybe, its a 1st century equivalent. Marky and Johnny had different visions of the lead character, and made different calls on the script.

  I don't really care if its not historical and if the accounts conflict. Its still way better than the plotline of Highlander 2:The Quickening.

  a sudden wave of recollection swept over me as i watched home movies today - remeber pep rallies?

  the gatherings to encourage school spirit for sporting events, etc?.

  I was ambivalent about the pep rallies. I was being constantly nagged to build up "spirit" from the jw side, so I needed some respite, not more of the same.

  The cool thing was that there were a few other students that couldn't stand them either, so we'd be meet up outside and alternately talk about all sorts of stuff and diss some of the plays/players from time to time. As long as we didn't leave the field, the teachers could care less if we were cheering on or not.

  If you want to go with the story in Genesis, and if you want to believe that a moral choice made by one pair of people would have planetary effects throwing off the rest of the ecosphere, alter the instincts/behaviours of animals, and spawn the appearance of new life-forms, then ask yourself by what mechanism? Was it people that could exert that sort of god-like power?

  Maybe we should just agree to disagree on the nature of the creative force.

  You know they're really being hurt by all the info and efforts by exjws, when they're trying to get people to avoid "looking for any answers outside of the congregation".

  Their biggest worry has to be the disenchantment thats becoming pervasive among all the jws. I see alot of it in the two congregations I bounce between. Its about time!!! I've been anxious for something ever since they changed the "generation" doctrine back in 95.

  All I have to say is that the appeals and attempts to manipulate will be all too transparent to alot jw teens I've talked with (while supplying). They're so cynical and sacriligious that they even make me cringe.

  I look forward to Blondie's analysis of that article.
