Re-examiner doesn't have any of it yet?
In the mean time, I'll give image shack a try for the WT article. Never did it before so don't expect success.

so, it's that time of year again, when sadly, i have to lie to my aging parents .
and tell them i went to the assembly... .
anyone have some obvious points i can raise that will give the impression that i went?

less than 2 hours before it all starts and a quarter of the earth's population will be watching!
- c'mon you americans, get on board.
germany kick-off against costa rica at 5pm to be followed by poland v ecuador at 8pm (bst)
I wouldn't say the Ozzies were robbed because I think the referee's call was legit. But Italy totally lucked out by getting that chance at a penalty kick. If the teams had went into overtime, I'd dare say Italy would have lost. Like you said all of their playing so far has been unimpressive. I think Australia was much better at passing and anticipating their own players movements.
recently i had the pleasure to examine a stash of 1920s and 1930s golden age magazines, among the rarest of watchtower publications.
i thought it would be a fun idea to have a thread in which i share with you some of the amazing, ridiculous, hilarious things contained therein.
hence, this is the first post of a series of excerpts, scans, etc.
Oh god. I can barely breathe from all the laughing. Too bad the present day witnesses aren't trying to clone humans like the raelians (sp.?). An equally "off" clone of schizo Joe would definitely make me want to pick up and read their current publications.
josephus as most know, was a jewish/roman 1st century historian.
he was well respected by the roman community and christians were zealous readers of his works.. he is one person christians use as a solid basis for proof of jesus earthly existence.
here is a quote that is used by some christians who strongly believe these words came from the hand of josephus himself,"now, there was about this time, jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man, for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure.
That's why I find comparative religion interesting. The recurring myths can tell us something about ourselves. Sure Gumbster and the rest of the "Jesus was Myth" camp are making the most rational conclusion based on all the genuine historical facts that we have now.
These jungian archetypes are symbolic constructs with meaning. Its less parsimonious I know, but I don't think its so improbable to consider that there really once was a Galilean who meant something akin to one of those archetypes to a number of people he interacted with. Not everyone perceived him as such.

Further, they were quite content to put down uprisings with a rod of iron, so surely a few children being slain in a tiny village (population approx 100?) by a vassal king, would barely even register.
I'm sure the jewish zealots would have taken note of it. Historically we know they were upset with Herod for a number of reasons. Some were probably very legit, others more owing to their overzealousness...They build up a wall so that Herod couldn't see the sacrifices happening in the Temple courtyard from his residence, but as fas as I know they never mention the Matthean account of the murder of the innocents. Neither do the other gospels....Interestingly the parallel fits in with Matthew's portrayal of Jesus as a Moses like liberator. That said, I agree with LT and Kristofer that its likely the Romans cared very little about getting the particulars on every Galilean movement that arose. They'd probably just let it be until it became a nuisance. Then they'd just squash it. I think there was a historical Jesus. Just exactly what he did or who he was is a stumper of a question.

So after receiving that letter did the FRC allocate the frequencies Rutherford wanted for WBBR and WORD?
They should have, but alas they failed to take the Judge's kind warning seriously. And because of their rather poor stewardship, their swath of power was about to be greatly diminished. For soon after they turned his request down (actually alot sooner than the amount of time watchtowerites have gotten used to accepting as soon), a great momentum picked up in a rival medium. The first ever television license, was issued a little bit earlier to Jenkins on July 2, 1928. Da Judge smiled (in a way that showed both his deep feeling of caring for those men, as well as the joy and rightful appreciation he had for JayHoover) because he saw what was to come, and he would still be blessed with a continued swath of power of his own.
if it's true that the society is starting a special campaign against "false religion", we may have them at our mercy!!!!!!!!!.
think about it: if they are stupid enough to print some cheap tract that shows churches and 'stars of david' as 'false religion', we may.
be able to cause enormous trouble by sending these to all public agencies dealing with intolerance and prejudice.. more than that, by posing as witnesses, these tracts may be sent to various people and groups with accompanying letters.
Metatron and AuldSoul
So long as one doesn't present themselves as a believing jw, I don't see any dishonesty with your proposed campaign. As to how effective it'll be, I can't say.
I'm with minimus that there are probably better approaches. Like say, letting people know about how the WTS is trying to suppress information sources like the former QUOTES website. And disseminating that very same information.
ever noticed that the most cleverest apostates are the ones that were "brought up in the truth"?
i mean people like little toe, leolaia and narkissos who provide the most intelligent dicsussions on the forum - they never chose the witnesses, but were dragged up in it.
do you think maybe they can't help but look down on the rest of us who were stupid enough to actually choose to become witnesses?
To LT and the rest of the Captain Caveman fans: What I really loved was the dragon in his club that would do neat stuff. The kid in me still finds that .
DB1974: Thanks for the memories!
AuldSoul: You're right. Its junior. I wanted to stress the punyness. I even remember some cartoons where the Captain was together with the Flintstones. His cover/alter-ego was a librarian(?) and I believe Betty and Wilma were investigative reporters.
Dan-O: I'm coming to agree with your point more and more. The appeal of the jws is emotional for many converts. Thats probably why its likelier for them to abandon the cult after having been mistreated, or slighted emotionally, than to hear about say the doctrinal flip flops.

Slimboyfat,
What I like about this board is how most of the posters are non-judgemental. Take me for instance. Mostly grew up in a divided home, didn't really feel a genuine religious impulse either way (dub or RC). It was all just they say vs they say. But as I approached 20 yrs of age, I really wanted to give spirituality an earnest try and got baptized. I already knew a fair amount about the errors and flip flops in WT doctrine, but I put them aside in my mind (fudged a little on some of the questions they asked)thinking that it didn't matter. What counted was my trying to forge my own personal relationship with God. For a bit, I spent more time with other witnesses who were "happy and spiritually refreshed" and did more studying. I was only fooling myself. No one here, that I know of, has treated me as lesser because of it. One or two have even objectively brought to my attention the general lack of sincerity within the jws, when I was down about my past and present hypocrisy (being mentally out but attending now and again for appearances).
I want to thank everyone here who have unknowingly given me a precious gift, that I rarely ever got. Acceptance and respect - even when I have an idiotic view or an opposing position.
for most of us who are going to the 'delieverance at hand' district convention we want to be low on the radar.
but wouldn't it be terrible if we missed out meeting someone else from the board while we attended the same convention?
listing what convention your going to might be to much of a give away for some people, but i really don't care.
If I were to play by Borg rules, I'd be going to one of the assemblies in Hamilton. Not too bad because there's Jackson square to kill time in. And they have a smallish cinema with matinees. Can't tell you how much money I've blown going to the movies there. Although I was miffed once by how the timing was a bit off and I had to rendevous with family before I could see the end of Eraser. I may be visiting some people in Kingston this time round, and just say I'll go to the DC in Ottawa.
P.S. Two rather memorable events came to mind. Once when I was walking around in Jackson Square this rather handsome strapping young man asks me for the time (yeah I wished I looked like him instead of like a grubby grumpy cavey junior). He then asks me if I was at some of the convention program. I'm like thinking who the bleep are you and why do you care? (Although I must say he was very affable throughout) Turned out he's a local witness who attended the week before, and get this, he was going on about how there was a very encouraging part for youth coming up and said he was glad he took it in. Apparently I wouldn't regret listening to it. I thanked him and walked in the general direction back to the stadium for a bit. Another time, I ran into somebody I knew from first year university, I the dope I always am was actually wearing my convention badge. I never told her or anyone else about my jw background (nix that, I did tell one chick who I thought I'd get off my case). I was so embarrassed I couldn't look her in the eyes, was transparently uncomfortable having been spotted and I wanted to leave so quick. She had no badge (damn it!) and said it was the first time she ever came to one of these with some family member. She was one hot and intelligent babe, who was working for a pharmaceutical company, while I at the time was working at some menial job. I was so embarrassed I didn't even get any cheering up from seeing any of the other young women walking around in their vacuum tight clothing.
