it's really cool cuz now i have access to the iphone apps store and i can download free and not so free apps for my iphone.
the app i like the best is aol radio, i can now listen to a couple of stations that i miss not living in the sf bay area.
Unlocking the phone makes no sense here in Canada. There's only Rogers and Fido (owned by Rogers). Even if there were a few more providers that used GSM unlocking would pooch visual voice mail and more importantly void the warranty.
In August, Bell will be launching the Samsung Instinct. I wonder what its plans will be like.

I figure most of the people who come to JWD are to varying degress already disillusioned with any form of religion, thanks to the WTS. The more they interact on the board, the more they can come to terms with a number of doubts. So with that, I wouldn't expect news like this to trigger a wave of startled or outraged posters screaming this is "the greatest story ever sold". Or maybe I'm projecting my own tepidness on religion. I appreciate a good story though and like to know what played a part in its coming together.

Thanks for pointing out that OT scripture reference to three days and Ephraim. I think Knohl should have included it in the article as more support for his view.
I'll admit I knew very little about the rabbinic tradition of a messiah 'Son of Joseph', so reading all of this was fascinating. Its like seeing the individual mythic threads before being woven into the Gospel tapestry and being able to tease out some of them from the finished product (eg. Jesus -> a son of Joseph). Its also interesting to see the Jewish millieu that it stems from (people lately tend to over emphasize the pagan contribution to the myth). I've always been more caught up with the kingly and priestly messiahs of the Qumran material, and the possible connections of a historical Jesus to an essene like, anti-establishment movement, but this was enjoyable to read.

The Paleojudaica site is usually very boring but every so often it has some interesting bits of news. This stone was reported on their site not too long back and they even had a link to the article written by Knohl.

The Kitchener location is horrid if you have to rely on others for a ride. Not much immediatiely around it as I understand it. At least at Copps, I could kill most of the day in the adjacent mall and even catch a movie. I saw "Eraser" there among other flicks. Yeah, I've been cutting out for some time now.
I worked yesterday and today but I'll have to make a showing tomorrow. Times like these that I wished I could afford those cellular carrier internet plans. Canadian data plans are insanely priced though, so I'll have to bring a small paperback novel instead to pass the time.
at the wednesday night ministry school meeting, a letter from the society was read announcing that wtbts paperbacked publications will begin to be laminated.
according to the letter, this "will save approximately 2 million dollars per year," "lengthen the life of the publications," and "increase the attractiveness" of the publications.. so there's that.. .
also, will someone please explain to me why 85% of the congregation started smiling and nodding at this.. i sometimes think that headquarters could send the congregations boxes of turds and the jws would act like it was the best thing ever..
Is the quality of the laminating pretty much like that thin layer of film you find on the outer cover of the new Young People Ask Volume 2 book? Because if it is, then its very cheap. Just enough to give a bit of protection somewhat against oils and sweat but it defintely isn't anywhere like the $5-$7 lamination job you can get at a Kinko's or Staples.

Physical and chemical laws, like gravity, or gas laws can be quantified. There are also classical mendelian genetics, and ecological models that quantify things biology and some are laws.
But I see no basis outlined for this "law of emergence of life". I only see an assumption and assertion that the universe and its physical and chemical laws will lead to life...not alot of evidence to make me really conclude its a law.
Don't get me wrong. I'm partial to the idea of panspermia and such a "law" would fit nicely but again where's the data to quantify it?

The one area that I did not follow strict procedure had to do with the change dropped in the box. I would always pick up paper money but generally ignored the change. I let the other congregation worry about that. Once they caught on they also left the change in the box.
Yeah, I did that too for the WWW and the KHF boxes. But I got burned big time with the 4th box specifically for the renovation. I was the only one collecting that one. It was embarassing to make deposits. Some of those tellers were uber hot and being associated with the WTBTS was bad enough, then walking in with small coins made me look patheic and miserly. Like I ever had a chance with them notwithstanding.

I'd have to wonder if that expectation of sending anything over $3000 was just in the KHs that you've gone to..because when I was accounts servant in a congregation in Ontario Canada that was never the case.
We had boxes labelled specifically for "congregation" (our own KH expenses), "world wide work", "kingdom hall build fund" (for construction in other parts of the world), and a fourth one once when all the congregations were raising funds to renovate the shared KH.
Each congregation had their own accounts with money fluctuating but I also maintained a second and a third account that had joint contributions. Those other two easily were over $11,000 CAN for months on end before major renos were made.
The congregation account was barely over $2000 because most of the dubs were cheap skates. These were not poor starving people. Most were middle class and a few were well to do. It was mostly two families who repeatedly bailed out the congregation from failing to meets its share of expenses because at least 60% of the people were not putting anything from what I saw. I put in my small amount of the KH itself.
The WTS though could go to hell and I loved to over order mags and crap like that when I had that stint. They didn't keep me long on that one.
