What Websites Do You Often Visit?

i was looking at my "favorites" and here are some that i like to look at: my homepage is the drudge report.

other favs include jwc, accuweather, the urban dictionary, tracone world newspaper page, the new york post and craiglist to name a few.

I'll be way too honest and destroy any respect I may have garnered on this board:

- a mailing list on UFOs, but in my defense, for some balance I also like frequenting CSICOP

- several sites dealing with my hobby - the obsolete amiga platform

- until it was taken down this one rocking website completely on Salma Hayek!

- since then I've also gotten hooked a couple of sites that cater to a particular fetish , but then in my defense, I also come here to JWD for spiritual balance

P.S. - I also like checking out car modifictions and pimped out rides.

Insecure posters

i wonder if it's just me, or if other posters are like this.

do any of you start to type a post, then hit the back button, or quit your post because your afraid of saying something stupid or "wrong," or reread some of your previous posts and wonder, what you were thinking when you posted it?.

i find most people on this board more than willing to accept you for whatever you say in a post, but i still frequently shy away from hitting that 'submit post' button.. rose (pushing the submit button before chickening out again)

Hi PP,

Thanks for the reminder of how little we can verify and separate out from legend. Admit it though, you enjoy teasing out the revisions and deflating the legends.

At least we all agree, that there genuinely was a disagreement () between camps on key matters of practice and doctrine. I only wanted to establish that, to show how making variations on the eucharist was very likely for the paulinne camp, if not created whole-cloth by it.

That may be genuinely part of the original letter or maybe its been added in. It wouldn't be the only one in the paulinne literature.

I admit that its only supposition. I try to have some grounding though, like observations that can characterize Paul. For example:

Paul himself attests to his confrontations with judaizers or the circumcision party of christians. He even boasted about his publically challenging Peter over the matter. So he was going against the grain. Even the book of Acts shows how Peter at first was adverse to gentiles.

Then there's the pseudo-clementine literature, with its story of Peter attacking a Simon for his anti-Law stance. Peter is trying to tell people to not be deceived by the error being taught by that man. Its not very hard to see that Simon can be a thinly disguised Paul. Interestingly enough, Paul himself never wrote that the matter of following the Law or not was settled during his ministry. That version of history is found in the later book of Acts.

If Paul would counter other christians on something like the Law, then its not unthinkable for him to also go against the grain on the spiritual and metaphysical meaning of the thanksgiving meal. Especially since he lays claim to receiving revelations.

Then again, he may have been towing the line for the most part, regarding the eucharist.

But then there's also the question about Paul's impact on the oral tradition. The segment he was evangelizing to, likely wasn't as influenced by the Jerusalem core. They were quickly becoming the majority of christians, so Paul's views may have easily won the majority mind share and affected oral tradition that way.

that the other Apostles in St. Paul's region, such as St. John or St. Peter, would have a problem with St. Paul's revisionist history; and if not the other Apostles themselves, at least the disciples of the Apostles

That point is definitely something that makes you go "hmmmm". We have evidence pointing to the friction between Paul and those christians holding to the Law, but as far as I know, no mentioned disputes about the meaning of the eucharist. Just how much of the framework was already in place among say the Johannine community? (Lamb of God imagery lends itself sweetly methinks) Maybe it wasn't that much of a leap then, for Paul to just tack on the idea of the mystical union, and just claim that extra detail as a revelation.

Relationship??

after meeting a wonderful fella who also is jw.

i've never felt this way about anyone before in my life.

the only thing is i don't know if its possible for us to have a stable relationship, as i am r.c, not actually i'm irish roman catholic which is a little bit "stricter".

Hi Penton,

My father converted to JWs from Roman Catholicism when I was only about 5. My mother didn't for a very long time. Its unbelievable how much of a negative impact the intolerance of the JW belief system has had on their marriage. My mother didn't leave him because of her insane sense of duty and commitment (I write that with alot of admiration). It was a depressing and stifling hell for her and for us children.

I guess that we'll never be sure of what those very first teachings were and surmising and beliefs are all we can bring to the table.

I grew up in the JWs and went through the Roman Catholic school system at the same time (see why I'm so mixed up?). So to the credit of the orthodox, they've done an excellent job of competing and spreading their version of christianity. And I'm also intrigued that, apparently, even early on, there wasn't a single view on the meaning of that Galilean's life and death.
