I always felt they were uneducated men who would never be leaders anywhere but the org. Being elders was the only way life made them feel important. I only had one elder I truley cared about and respected. Still do.

Were You Afraid Of The Elders?.Did Ya Love Em?...What Was Your View of Them
by minimus ini've heard of brothers and sisters saying that they have "prayed for the elders because they love them for their hard work and sacrifice".
i've also heard of how some in the congregation were petrified of the elders and of course, there were those that said they were either only men or that they were direct representatives of jehovah god himself.

Bad news about the house. : /
by Elsewhere ini have been holding off making a public announcement for awhile because i have been waiting for all of the paperwork to become official... but the company that is building my house has been dragging their feet, trying to delay the inevitable.. the bottom line is this: i won't be able to buy the house.
when i was doing contract work, i was making x amount of money.
i had anticipated a pay cut caused by my becoming a permanent employee, but the pay cut turned out to be more substancial than i had anticipated.

Keep in mind that 28% is what is usually allowed for you mortgage. 36% is allowable as your total debt-income ratio. There are a lot of factors to consider before making this decision. Do you have a car payment? Do you plan on having a car payment? Do you have revolving debt? Student/Parent Loans..etc? If you don't, 33% is not unreasonable. But of course, the biggest factor is your comfort level.
Don't completely rule out renting for a year, if necessary. A lot of people will tell you it's better to own a home you don't want than to rent, but that's usually not the case. Depending of rent prices in your area, your short term goal may be to spent the least amount of money possible. Mortgage loans are so front loaded with interest, you hardly pay any principle the first few years. Now assume your appreciation is $10k for one year (I think that's generous based on my area). Sounds great, but after paying realtors, and transfer stamps (based on your area), you may be upside down. So if you own a house for less than a year, you may actually have to pay to sell it.
I'm sure you'll make the right decision. I've had a few interesting experiences buying and selling, I just wanted to add my perspective. Good Luck.

Did you ever report yourself to the elders for wrongdoing?
by booker-t ini remember when i got baptized in 1983 i tried to forget about a sexual encounter that i had had while i was going over my baptismal questions.
the night that i was going to confess all to the elders a friend of mine in the same congregation was "reproved" for conduct unbecoming of a christian.
before the reproof was read the elders gave a 20 min talk on premarital sex that was going on in the congregations.

The only thing I ever confessed to was getting drunk. I was 16 years old and came home drunk one night. I puked and passed out on my parents bathroom floor. The next day, my mom made me call the PO of our Cong and confess. Nothing really happened as a result, but I felt really stupid for having to confess such a dumb thing.
A couple years later, my roomate and I had a party that got kinda crazy. One of the girls confessed what she did. At the time I don't even think I was attending the meetings anymore, but the elders were after me for a year. I never met with them, despite all their letters, and my mom begging me to sit down with them. The girl that confessed got df'd and later told me confessing was the biggest mistake of her life. They asked her all kinds of detailed questions about our encounter. They are perverts. I never got df'd though.

U.S. Witnesses can make the difference in the 2004 Election
by joe_from_kokomo indear friends:.
most witnesses do not vote, and have not done so for many years, although strictly speaking current watchtower policy does not forbid voting in a political election, but rather leaves it as a matter of conscience.
so, it is up to each witness to decide for themselves if it is ok to vote or not.

Had other Witnesses of similar viewpoint voted, we would not be in a war in Iraq now. Think about it.
I thought about it, and I'm glad you didn't vote.

I think 2520 is BS anyway... nobody ever accounts for the leap month. You have to add 30 days to one of those seven years. Bumps the number to 2550. Hey wait. Maybe that's why Armageddon hasn't come. Anyone wanna join my new cult?

I did the fade... I think it has worked out nicely. My JW family members are always trying to encourage me to come back. This gives me excellent opportunities to "ask questions" that only makes them think harder about JW propaganda. My latest was "How do we (and I still use the word we... it shows my good intentions...haha) get to the year 1914??. I couldn't do this if I was DF'd.

Start of the '7 times' period in Daniel
by Noumenon in.
hi - would be grateful for any info on what russell and the early bible students believed as to when the '7 times', 2520 years, prophesy in daniel 4 started.
specifically, did they hold that the supposed 2520 year period started with jerusalem's destruction in 586/607bce or babylon's destruction in 539bce, and why?

A little off the subject, but how come the seven times in interpreted as 2520 years?? I thought that at the end of every 6th year, under the 360 day calendar, there was a leap month of 30 days. If there were seven times, equal to days of years, why isn't the number 2550 (to include a 30 day leap month)??
