i'm a nursing student and our topic for the week is blood.

That is just so tragic and has happened time and time again the world over. My parents were always happy to work minimum wages instead of doing qualified work, and I was made to leave school at 15 yrs old and I went pioneering. There decision wasn't related to blood or consciouness matters, but in a similar vein of not believing in tertiary education. I'm making up for lost time now though :)

Thanks for your replies, I think I have enough info now. Unbelievable the stance of allowing fractions which add up to the whole, one might possibly understand a complete 'no blood' rule, but to have so many exceptions to the rule is just makes a mockery of it all, it's a shame that JWs just can't see it. Sorry I'm sure there are stacks of discussions on blood already but I don't have too much time for reading through hundreds of pages. I'm a nursing student and our topic for the week is blood. I have a small assignment to do with what JWs believe, what blood products they will accept and won't accept, and the ethics.
I'm familiar with all the scripture behind their doctrine, and also with counter-arguements. But I don't know the JW current stance is on blood and blood products.
When I was a JW it was a conscience matter to use a machine that takes blood from your body and put it back into your body, like an extension of your own circulation (how embarassing I can't even think what the machine/procedure is called and I'm supposed to be a nursing student!). But with modern medicine, and the JW ever-changing doctrine, what are their views on blood fractions? Do they still disfellowship on grounds of blood? Do most JW still abide by the doctrine and carry a blood card?
I looked at an article on the official watchtower.org site, and every reference used to back up their arguement that blood transfusions are bad for your health was from the 1980s!! Surely they must have some more recent research since then?! (Or knowing the JW, perhaps not :) )

after leaving the jw 18 months back, about 6 months ago i became a christian, by christian i mean that i have accepted the importance of jesus and he is my lord and savior.
i feel closer to god than i ever have, and i'm actively involved with church.

After leaving the JW 18 months back, about 6 months ago I became a Christian, by Christian I mean that I have accepted the importance of Jesus and he is my Lord and Savior. I feel closer to God than I ever have, and I'm actively involved with church. I never had that closeness or understanding of who Jesus is when I was baptised at 13.
So of course I've rededicated my life to God in prayer and I'm striving at leading a good Christian life. But I've been wondering if I should get baptised again, this time fully understanding what I'm getting myself into.
Looking at it from a JW perspective, if someone had been baptised in the Anglican Church for example and then became a JW, they would be expected to get re-baptised by the JW.

apart from 3 weeks back when i mentioned here that i ran into an elder at a cafe and told him that i was going to church etc, i haven't seen any jws since leaving the wt about 15 months ago.. curiosity got the better of me yesterday as to what my standing is in the congregation, since admitting to going to another church to an elder i thought they may take some action.
so i emailed my once good friend in the jws to ask if i was disfellowshipped.. she said that no announcements or anything had been made (perhaps they're all too lazy and apathetic to take action?)..
so i emailed back that i had become a christian and that it's been so long since i've seen her and her husband that i'd love to see them one day and see their wedding photos (they got married after i left).
Update: well they've been and gone. We chatted away like old times as though it was just yesterday since we'd seen each other. They didn't seem to care that I wasn't a JW and we kept the conversation away from religion.
We gossiped about a lot of JWs I knew like who was married, separated or divorced and just general stuff. I brieftly told them I had left the JW as a deliberate decision and was really enjoying my life at the moment and what it was like to step into a church for the first time of my life.
So all a big non-event really and nothing worth noting for you guys. Sounds like I got a deal compared to some of you who are shunned or only have JWs come around to try and 'encourage' you spiritually.

So I emailed back that I had become a christian and that it's been so long since I've seen her and her husband that I'd love to see them one day and see their wedding photos (they got married after I left). I said I didn't want to tell them too much about being a Christian or going to church so they won't think I'm apostate (though I'm the biggest 'apostate' around ) or stumble then, I'd just like to see them socially.
To my surprise they agreed and said can they come around tonight to my flat!!
I had fully prepared myself to them saying that they didnt' think it would be a good idea or anything. So it will be good to see them even just the once because if I do ever get disfellowshipped then they definitely won't be able to see me. So I've bought a bottle of wine to help the evening go smoothly and make everyone relaxed.
I'll report back tomorrow to tell you how it went or if anything to do with the JWs was discussed.

i was just wondering if this site is talked about @ meetings, and/or in the publicatons.
i'm sure reproof or disfellowshipping would be instant if a dub was found looking into such "apostacy".
I've read it in quite a few posts comments about the WTS monitoring sites like this.. is this just paranoia on some members or is there any hard proof that they do come here?
i have never sought out proffesional help.i guess the way i am is part of that stubborn old school mentality of"i don't need any help".i think i can fight through alot of my feelings.as a raised,insecure,unhappy,negative ex jw child,do members on this forum think someone such as myself should seek psycological help(even if yes,why?
)why can't i fully move on?does just vocalizing these issues help?.
i know the answer,but i'm afraid to deal with it.i guess i'm just having a bad day.i'm glad i have this meesage board .youve all been great,sorry to bother with my pitifull emotions,.
Hi there,
I'm not sure what type of issues you're dealing with. I reckon just chatting in discussion boards like this can be therapeutic and you can see that others have been thru similar stuff to yourself and how they're coping. And its good to be able to air your emotions instead of keeping them bottled up.
If your issues are deeper or more serious you may want to consider counselling. There may be other causes for why you are the way you are. I know JW life is screwed up but I don't believe that you can blame every insecurity and problem one has purely on that type of upbringing - a lot have been raised JW's, have left and get over it fairly quickly. That is why counselling might help determine what your issues are and how to resolve them.
