He also explained that the Watchtower had called this morning, October 10, 2001 and withdrew their association. His did not indicate that the UN in any way initiated any action to precipitate this.
I wish to comment further regarding the above quote.
You mean that all it takes to remove oneself from the NGO is a phone call? An extensive form is required to join the NGO why not a letter of resignation, a letter of disassociation.

My thoughts are let's keep up the pressure.
For decades the WT Org has distributed millions and millions of pieces of literature that portrayed the UN as a disgusting thing. They will continue to do so. Their retreating from the NGO involvement demonstrates that their position regarding UN has not changed.
We need to point out the UN that it is imperitive for them to identify what the WT has done to their reputation by identifying them as the beast of Revelation.
Bible EX you took great courage to appeal to the NGO representative the way you did. If he only expresses curiosity to the plight of millions of JWs then perhaps we need to show them the damage that is eroding away at the UN through the vast propaganda machine of the WT.
We also need to explore further what Freedom of Informationavenues are open with the UN. We need to see if the press can pick up on this as many have expressed in other threads.
So let us not give up.

They run from the NGO/UN crisis.
Let's hope they do not let the JW children take the brunt of the heat of patriotic fervor on Friday.
JW parents spare your children, do not burn them in fire, God does not need their sacrifice. Keep them home, or make sure of safe arrangements for them.

i was wondering when the hell samuel herd was going to shut up.. blab blab blab.... aren't we wonderful, oh we are so wonderful.. about the only thing that was said that i could see as being something which the gb would see as touchy enough to warant the multiple announcements for " no tape recorders, no video recorders and no computer note taking" would be the statement by herd that there's "going to be a lot off killing, billions will die ....in swift fashion".
and the other gb (fill in the name) who talked about being in the new world "in two hundred years".... wow.. that's leaving enough prophetic lee-way for the gb heirs to the thrones.. much emphasis was placed on the "...two roads to the new system ...the high road and the low road".

Why are they so hung up about no record being made of what was said?
Why did they require tickets in order to be admitted?
I think the real answers to these questions has yet to be made.
Why this meeting in October? My thoughts are: They are trying to create a self fulfilling prophecy. They have done this in the past. Seven trumpet blasts back 80 years or so ago. Walking around Jericho seven times in 1974. See KMs of that year, when for seven months in a row, publishers were asked to make a big effort to distribute a vast number of pamphlets each month. That was the instructions in Canada, I don’t know whether it was world wide.
In the Isaiah books or March 1, WT they explained that the faithful one would be preserved by entering into his interior room to escape the time of distruction. They portrayed a picture of a family climbing stairs to their bedroom, father taking the lead, in the times of Isaiah.. They also explained that the interior rooms of today are the Kingdom Halls.
So these meetings were a demonstration of the faithful, entering into their interior rooms.
They also probably had the parable of Jesus in Math 22 in mind. Here the King has a wedding feast, upon inspection of the guests he finds one not dressed properly. He is booted outside. So it is only invited guests that are allowed, and the wedding feast information is only for the faithful, so no tape recorders etc.
Why was this event a non-event. The so called apostates stole their thunder. Advanced publicity from these discussion boards, revealed to them that it is impossible to keep out intruders, and it is impossible for them to keep secret any information for their faithful flocks alone.
There is NOTHING they can keep secret anymore.
One added point. When the planes hit the WTC, what was done immediately at Brooklyn Bethel? They drew all the curtains and locked the doors. I believe they thought this was Armageddon and they were entering into their interior rooms!

on balance, it's good reporting of this issue, which certainly needs wide publicity.. but it does include some factual errors, and some specific turns of phrase that may put witnesses off.
I thought the article a good article written by a news reporter. The fact that it contains minor mistakes in our eyes, makes it more authenitic. Consider articles written by reporters about any JW convention etc. I have never seen an article yet that was 100% accurate in information and vocabulary. A good reporter uses his own vocabulary, and not the jargon of any group that the average reader would not grasp.
If an ex-dub had written this article, he would not make the same mistakes as an outsider reporter.
This article starts the ball rolling with the info in the press circles, and can be forwarded to anyone, with the appropriate introduction to it. For example, Dear So and So, have you seen this article in the paper at this link, is this on the level or is it a hoax. What are your thoughts on it? etc. etc.

Your story does not quite jive with the NewsPress story from Florida. You state that three men rushed in and threw as chemical on the floor.
The news aricle states a package was under the table and a note left on top of the table.
I guess we will have to wait for further details. If the perpetrators have pulled of a hoax, they are in big trouble. They will be in big trouble if it is not a hoax as well.

I thought the meeting was to last for three hours? It took them three hours to announce that after the annual meeting they would rent a big stadium just to announce another meeting? Are you sure they didn't change their minds or just forgot where there minds are? Did today's events or the UN/NGO issue make them back pedal out of it.
I have been waiting all day for news of this event. I should have gone out and picked my apples.

I too, have been wondering about the press getting involved. Especially after the spokesperson's of WHY 1914 posted in one of the threads that Mrs Oca reported to her in emphatic terms that No one lies to the UN . It shows that they are very concerned.

Good question.
I have been out of the WT for some decades now, and have read probably thousands of books. Many have had a profound effect on my life. In the WT you were discouraged from reading books, or going to orginal sources of information. Even before I was evicted I came to realize that there is Joseph down in Egypt storing up the food. But in the WT their is a dire famine. Many, many solutions to mankinds problems are already stored in the works of many creative, original thinkers and freely available in the world's libraries.
Just recently I have read two books, that were recommended by someone on this discussion board. They are two books on archeology written,by David Rohl, their titles, A Test of Time and Legend, A Genesis of Civilization Rohl is not a Biblical archeologist, yet he has unearthed fascinating information from the past that shows the origin of many Biblical subjects.
