Plmkrzy you're right. $20/hour is pretty common. But you have to remember how we're paid. The majority of us are paid a percentage of the labor we generate so it isn't $20/hour simply for being on the clock.

Thanks.
I started this thread because the virus(?) is on an ex-jw email list. This list has some good content, but also has some spam and messages of questionable content. There's quite a few html messages in which the html is carried as an attachment. Now it's getting messages with .exe files so someone on the list is up to no good.
I'm going to try and track down who runs it and let them know.Next time one of the messages shows up with an attachment I'm going to scan it with Norton and I'll let y'all know the results.

I got on the XJW-central email list and for the last few days some of the messages look pretty suspicious.
I know I'm gonna get a security lecture for this, but I haven't been running any anti-virus. I also don't open the attachments.

Taking the thread back to topic now...
The local elders I knew weren't rich, but not dirt poor either. One was a draftsman, one a machinist. The others were self-employed and owned their own businesses. Lawn care, electrician, carpet cleaning, and insurance agent. They worked hard to support their families and I respect that, even if I don't like some of them personally.
Having lived dirt-poor myself, I take issue with anyone who comes across as denigrating a "blue collar" profession. Someone who takes pride in their work and works hard at it, regardless of how menial we may think it is, deserves respect.Mike!

Carlitos, I understand the point of your post but I have to take issue with one of the jobs you listed.
Grease monkey.
Don't say that.
I'm an automotive technician. To be precise, an undercar technician. We don't mind being called mechanics. We prefer to be called technicians. We refuse to be called [pause and grimace] "grease monkeys".
You seem to be placing technicians into a category of menial, low-wage jobs that lack respect and that is very far from the truth.
Driveability technicians can make over 100 thousand a year. I'm an undercar technician (brakes, suspension, and exhaust) and I'll make about 50 thousand this year. Maybe even more.
I'm not trying to pick a fight, I just take it personally when someone says "grease monkey" because that's an image that I and other technicians are trying very hard to overcome.Mike!

Jst_me, thanks for reminding me! I once had a pet peeve, and it was called "John Boy and Billy". Don't get me wrong, I used to like them. The show just got too big for its own good. Now it's just way too commercial. Nothing but a few contests and massive amounts of time spent plugging their products and their advertisers. The impromptu ad-lib stuff that used to make the show is almost non-existent. Any humor is likely a re-run of old stuff.

Oh boy! I get to complain!
My pet peeve is MORONS! A radio commentator I enjoy listening to, Robert D. Raiford calls them "klutzes". I prefer morons.
Moronic drivers who either go below or way above the speed limit. Generally they wait until a hard rain hits to speed. Morons who sit at a green light. Hey! It ain't gonna get no greener! Morons who get in the middle land of the interstate and drive too slow. To make themselves more obnoxious, at night they tend to pick a vehicle in the right lane and drive close enough that their headlights shine in the sideview mirror right into the driver's face. Morons in 18-wheelers who make it a point to travel in large groups, hogging the whole road, holding up traffic, and intimidating motorists who try to pass. Morons who park in the fire lane in front of the grocery store while everyone else is using the parking lot like they should.
