The "immediate future": another typical WTS catch phrase still used
by onacruse instinkypantz sent me a couple of quotes from "the past" that brought back a lot of memories, including this one (bold added):.
*** awake!
october 8 1966 pp.19-20 ***.

It may well be the "immediate future" extends from the actual date of reading. Yeah, that's it.

Pioneers Assist Others program
by rocketman ini was still an elder and i was present at the elder's school about three years ago when it was announced that the pao program would be re-introduced (it was evidently in practice some years before).. the program was a problem from day one.
it was very hard pairing publishers with pioneers.
publishers who were approached and asked to participate felt that they were being thought of as "weak".

I remember this one really well. I was already assigned a part on the Service Meeting when the PO and Sec. "remembered" that a talk had to be given for the program. I ended up giving one part coming down for the next part and then going back up for the Pioneers Assist Others talk.
Both the Pioneer and publisher had the option of rejecting the pairing. I see comments where some felt forced to work together. The program was a flop. The CO would come and ask about it and I had to beg people just to sign up.

New Light on the United Nations (U.N.) (Scarlet Beast)
by UnDisfellowshipped inthere appears to be "new light" in the latest watchtower magazine (june 1st 2003 issue).
several watchtower publications for the last 50+ years have said that the united nations (u.n.) organization ("the scarlet-colored wild beast" of revelation) would definitely be the organization that will carry out jehovah's judgment on "babylon the great" (false religion), and then, under satan's [gog of magog's] direction, the united nations organization would become "greedy", and try to attack the remaining remnant of the "anointed" jehovah's witnesses and their companions, the "great crowd" of "other sheep", and then jehovah and jesus would destroy the united nations organization, along with everyone else who was not a jehovah's witness.
here is a quote that shows this: .

The WT has always taught that Armageddon is God's war, initiated by God coming on the heels of the Great Tribulation. Now I'm going to have to get a June 1 mag. to see what this is about. Does anyone have a program for the District Convention? Perhaps the talk titles will shed some "light."

It would be good if someone could reproduce the letter from the WT saying they withdrew as an NGO when it was "brought to their attention" the terms of membership had changed.

I'm going to be a Witness again!
by dedalus inrecently i wandered over to derrick's site, h20, just to check things out.
while casually looking around, i came across this, a description of one of the forums over there.
i've bolded the part that caught my eye:jehovah's witnesses and bible prophesy.

I've seen people sitting on park benches holding mags. On the subway with the mags propped up on their laps. Outside the Supreme Court Bldg. in Brooklyn there's a table set up with all kinds of literature being manned by 2 or more. I've seen the same thing at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. This counting time thing is a joke.

JW's and their hypocritical rhetoric!!!
by anti-absolutist inafter reading francois' last post, it reminded me of how easy it is for jw's to ignore common sense.
what, to you, is the most ridiculous justification that they have used to refute you exposing their religion as possibly not being the truth?.
for myself, when i have discussed with them the greatest scandals that have come up lately, (u.n., paedophiles, etc.

I once asked an elder if the Society had ever admitted being wrong. He said they used the phrase "adjustment" which is a stronger term. I think he had a hard time believing that one himself. I've long since tired of hearing about Moses and others being imperfect but this not stopping God from dealing with them because they were all he had.

I wouldn't say I couldn't stand him but Leon Johnson was a strange one I think he had small man's complex. One day he walked up to me and said: "You're tall right?" I stood there wondering where that was going, then he told me to fix the time on the KH clock.
