i was posting a little on the old h2o but have taking a break before going to this new room only watching for a while.
im still an active jw and elder here in europe - a long way from you in the usa and also another culture even inside the jw.
i think we in europe as jws are thinking a little different from the jws in the u.s. we dont put religious authorities as high as i think you do.

i am a new to posting on this board though i have been actively reading your posts the past while and i thank some of you for the interesting viewpoints that you have verbalized and that i have enjoyed thinking on.
i am still an active jw, in fact an elder of 20 years standing hence my need to limit information about my personal circumstances.
i have served in a number of countries in europe as a pioneer and elder over the past three decades.
You said you like me lives in Europe and love the mountains and a climbing. Do you sometimes come to the “mekka” Chamonix ou Mont Blanc in France to climb? If you do serious climbing does it gives you a metal boost and sometimes an even a religious experience and feeling? Why do you climb if you do?

Yes you are right in a way. But life isn’t always that simple. A lot of considerations have to be taken. To combine those is a hard job sometimes and others will always think you should have done different. But for the time being I have made a promised to my self that I will not say anything I don’t believe - instead I will talk about and teach also in the congregation things I can put my trust on. Not always easy but anyway that’s what I do.
I do know this way isn’t going to work in the long run. But until I feel the right time has come it’s the way for me. I’m not in a position just to follow my own. I have family and will not leave them unprotected. My speed is reduced so the only way doing elder job and making speaks in the congregation is turning the text in a way I’m able to live with.
Hope you see my situation.

Hello LoneWolf
Your quistions
A thought: Could it be that by remaining as an elder despite your doubts, that the 'sheep' you help shephard may be better off than if you left and turned the job over to someone who is not as sympathetic to their doubts and weaknesses?
Yes, maybe you right. But I have so fare not been asking about doubts concerning doctrines. So the problems haven't been there yet. If a JW has doubts they keep it to them self. Surely they don't gone to the elder with this kind, but mainly moral matters and family problems. All JW knows sharing thought about doctrines doubts is like walking on fire. So they don't do it.
So with the job as elder I have so fare been able to avoid conflicts between the job and my own opinion. But in the long rum I do know this is nearly impossible
Thanks for asking

A hard one to answer
I try to make their attention to the personal relationship to God and Christ. Show them that Christ died for us all and are able to carry any kind of sins and problems if we just let him do it. No man or anything must be a filter of that. The love of Christ is so powerful that nothing is able to split us.
I try not to talk about organisations matters - only pay attention to basis Christian believes.
Not always easy but it works many times. So I try to avoid taking about the JW demands but the freedom of Christ. I do know the demands of JW but try to make people understand that faith are all that matters. We are not - what ever we do - able get salvation by works. Salvation is a gift. Nothing else.

I think is goes back to some centuries ago when a lot of religious people from Europe travelled to USA looking for freedom of religious believes.
Those people were in fact very religious and making a lot of new believes systems in your own country. The history shows that they was looking and seeking, buts that’s a danger if you meet the wrong people.
So I think you in the north of USA – being very religious - some times are victims of people with power to speak. Maybe I’m wrong but compare to us in Europe you do more thinking about the meaning of live and also about which religions are making answer to that.
That’s good but also a weakness if you don’t show attention to whom making the answer.
Hope that make a little sense to your question

Yes, I'm still an elder, but thinking about to quit. Times will tell. My wife doesn't want me to quit. I think she is afraid it will be just a step before the next and final. But anyway I haven't make up my mind so I just try for the time being to live with the job as elder.

Hello to everyone. I was posting a little on the old H2O but have taking a break before going to this new room – only watching for a while. I’m still an active JW and elder here in Europe - a long way from you in the USA and also another culture even inside the JW. I think we in Europe as JWs are thinking a little different from the JWs in the U.S. We don’t put religious authorities as high as I think you do. This means we try to follow our own common sense. That’s maybe a wrong thought (after the opinion of the Borg), but that’s what we do or at least some and growing numbers are doing. Maybe that’s the reason to the statistic decrease in efforts and numbers. Don’t misunderstand this statement. It’s only a view on a historical point.
Back to headline. Why do some take so long times to make up their mind about their relationship to JW? Some of you says, “Make up your mind” or “Make a decision” or similar sentence.
But if you want to share thoughts and debate with people with different opinions please be patience with us. If you just show anger and hate we will disappear one by one. We do know we are on dangers ground making debate and sharing our deepest thought on this board. A lot of you are DF or DA and you do know “the system” and being an elder too talking to you makes it even worse. Please don’t misunderstand me. I have nothing against you what ever you are - if you behave well and debate civilise and with respect, but the Borg don’t like it – but I don’t care. In fact I do see a lot of caring people but a lot with bad JW experience. I don’t blame you but the system doing this to many.
So why do we stay and not just quit tomorrow. I don’t know for all – we are in different situations. A lot of us have wife/husband and some have even children as well. Having strange thought and even serious doubts about 607/1914, GB, ECT is hard to faces and takes times – sometimes years. Even I say to my self, “I don’t believe this nonsense” my family is still there. They are afraid of all the new thoughts. Your doubts are a threat to them and the family union. So a lot of felling is a part of the discussions. So very often you just have to shout you mount and lets times go on and hope for better to come.
So lets share opinion not only about the past of all the bad experience. Lets have a little debate of what to do in the future being a disciple of Chris or trying to be that.

Hallo Hillary Step
Funny name. Are you a climber of what? I do know the Hillary Step - the crux point to the roof of the world on Mount Everest. If you manage that step only a few ones is left to the summit. But if you fail that point!!!!!!!!!!!!
Besides that - I enjoy your post. I’m also an elder from Europe still playing the game. I don’t like the game but that’s just my positions right now. Waiting to see what happen and still take care of the family. It’s easy to follow your own wishes but you have the take care of your family as well. They need times – a lot of times after my opinion. I try to be patience.
Yes, a lot of JW are good people and many need care and understanding. The Borg as the Master is a demanding ONE, and a lot of JW’s have many problems meeting all the demands. But anyway many are trying the best they can just to survive and live for the next day
I don’t think in general the people - even in the GB - are evil, but the System build up has become close to that statement.
So be careful out there. You’re walking on fire. Take you time.
Best wishes
