"Then why not do it THROUGHT the yr rather than waiting for this one day too."
Ah, the age old question of the JW. Because we like christmas lights and santa defd...those are seasonal.
Golf- I understand. I've never been into New Years myself but I can understand. -

JW mom told 6 y/o grandson Santa was fake
by unbeliever inand that christmas trees were pagan sticks.
she really did it this time.
he does not understand what a pagan stick is but he sure understands about santa not being real.

unbeliever- She crossed over the line big time. It's not her place to tell her grandson what to believe. I think you handled it well though.
You know I was raised a JW and was told santa was fake and told classmates and kids in the neighborhood--I wanted to believe though. If I had been raised outside I'm not sure how long the beliefe would've lasted since we didn't have much money...but at least there would've been some kind of hope or in the least I wouldn't have thought of myself as bad when I took guilty pleasure in looking at christmas lights or watching part of a christmas cartoon while my mom was out.
My nephews and niece have been brought up believing in santa. The oldest is 12 now and he stopped believing a couple years ago. He hasn't been hurt by it at all. In fact, he wants to do something christmas eve to keep his brother and sister believing. Last year, we set up one of my brothers on the roof to stomp across towards the chimney...my sister and my mom woke up the kids and got them into the hall while my other brother dressed up as santa popped out of the chimney, unloaded some presents, took two handfuls of cookies and stuffed them in his mouth...then he headed for the liquor cabinet for a swig---I swear I almost peed my pants trying not to laugh. My niece (6 at the time) ran to her room slamming the door behind her..she was glad he came but wanted to sleep. My older nephew knew right away but never let on to his little brother (8) --who as soon as he saw santa nearly got all the way down the hall screaming "I KNEW IT!" before his mom stopped him. He's a year older now and a smart kid, but he wants to believe in magic so he still does. -

Some of us don't believe in Jesus and could care less about the origins and also don't buy into the holiday's exploitation by big business. We just enjoy getting together with our families for a celebration.

Execution in United States Are You For It?
by jayhawk1 infrom the ap.... raleigh, n.c. - a man who killed his wife and father-in-law pinned his hopes on last-minute intervention from the governor or the courts as he awaited lethal injection early friday in the nation's 1,000th execution since capital punishment resumed in 1977. kenneth lee boyd, set to die at 2 a.m., spent the day receiving visitors, including two sons who watched him gun down their mother and grandfather in 1988. .
my questions are; are you for or against the death penalty?
what was your opinion of the death penalty as a jehovah's witness?.

Frannie- it's not a matter of wanting them to be gone. It's a matter of principle-- and then knowing for some of us, nothing gets rid of the pain of a loved one that's been murdered. And maybe the person resposible should feel the same...no relief.

school lunches and other rituals...
by under74 ini was just watching a thing about school lunches and how it might be partly responsible for the obesity in kids here in the us.
i think this is true from what my niece and nephews tell me about what they get from school lunches....but it got me to thinking about when i was in elementary school and weight problems or the problems that start them.
1) by the 5th grade i thought i was fat because i was weighed by the school nurse in front of the rest of my class...even though i was the tallest in my class and now knw i wasn't over weight.

You know my mom always told me I wouldn't be any taller than her before I was 12 and grew taller than her. She never said things about my height but she would about my weight. Even at 12 though I knew she was screwed up.
But what you write brings up something about my niece. She's 7 and the same height as her 9 year old brother. She's not petite but she's a cute girl. My older brother (who has caused more than a bit of trouble with others) I'm afraid had made comments to our niece about her eating habits and how she's not---pretty much what she was when she was 3 (tiny). We had a big blow out at Thanksgiving because he also expects her to act a certain way--silent. I'm getting a little tired of expectations of little girls and what I think it'll eventually do to them later. -

Geez...see, I know things are bound to happen but there are things that can be avoided.
